I had such a relaxing day – I can’t remember the last time I did so little and didn’t have that “I should be doing X” in the back of my mind.
And my afternoon snack was pie!! How fun is that. The last little piece from last night (that’s an appetizer plate not a dinner plate
)When Matt got home from the bakery, we freshened up and walked the ~1.5 miles over to Faith and Tate’s house for dinner! They have been crazy busy this summer with lots of trips and adventures, so we were excited to get together for one final double date before we turn into 5!
Loved chillin in their new kitchen!
Faith made the most delicious fried fish to go inside fish tacos. I swear her food always has something magical about it that tastes so fresh. I think it’s her generous use of fresh herbs!
On the side we had a bean + avocado salad and a cucumber and tomato salad – both equally fresh and summery!
Taco assembly!!
Yum.
For dessert, Matt and I picked up a special treat…
Cappellino’s Crazy Cakes here in town has a really interesting trend going. According to the owners, 124 women (and counting) have gone into labor after eating their Lemon Drop Cupcakes right near their due dates. This is one wives tale (or not!?) that I wanted to participate in, as it’s the eve of my due date! Could it be the dose of sugar? The lemon concentration (acid near the uterus?) The placebo effect? The due date timing? Who knows! The owner told us that some women have near instantly gone into labor when their water breaks on the spot and others took a little longer (24-48 hours), but that there is definitely something about them : )
The cupcake was absolutely delicious and VERY lemony – very zesty!! I loved it – excellent frosting!!
After dinner, we walked back downtown. Sadly, the owner of Bella Boutique, Thom, was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and the salon family and friends put together an event to help raise money for him tonight. We donated a gift basket from Great Harvest and wanted to also stop by and show our support. Although I have never had the pleasure of going to Bella, my friend Seamane has had Thom as her hairdresser for ages. The event was lovely with a huge turnout, and will hopefully help out Thom during this difficult time.
After chatting with some of our friends, we headed back home, covering about 3 miles in all tonight.
The moon sure was FULL!

Have you heard of labor – inducing eggplant parm.? http://www.scalinis.com/Bambino.htm
It might be worth a shot?
KathEats says
I have heard of that too! We might make something with eggplant tomorrow : )
k says
A few days ago, a fellow commenter and I both posted about having eaten eggplant on the eve of our labor! My water broke less than two hours post dinner that night! It’s silly, but all this speculation is fun indeed!
Lee says
I was just about to post about that too! I’ve never been, but living in Atlanta, I’ve heard the tales about the eggplant parm.
Andrea says
That is CRAZY about those cupcake stats! If you go into labor, I would totally ask what’s in the cupcakes 😉 Happy Full Moon!

Also, my friend had the cupcake and went into labor the next day…it does happen 🙂

The women in my family have had tremendous birthing success with lemon meringue pie! I think these (and the blue moon) should do the trick. It’s like Christmas anticipating this event!

Alaine at My GF & DF Living says
Sounds like a great day! I hope your lemon drop cupcake works because that certainly sounds super delicious!
Lauren says
I hope this cupcake helps you progress happily, healthfully and comfortably. Here in Los Angeles we have a place called Caiote Cafe and they have a labor inducing salad. I think it’s similar to the labor inducing eggplant parm in that it has tons of oregano. But I think it works like raspberry leaf to prime but not induce.
Happy hopefully birthday 😉
k says
Oh! I just noticed the number on the Lemon Drop induced baby board! The idea of you and your organized little baby Kerf being a nice round 125 was a fleeting thought. However, I’m sure you would be even thrilled if another cupcake loving duo beat you to the punch on this one and your delivery ended up being their 126th! 🙂
KathEats says
Haha #126 would be sweeet!
Kristin k says
Good luck! Those cupcakes would be worth it either way…yum! And I love the pie snack! Gotta live it up while you’re preggers! Also, organized mom=organized baby so maybe he will be right on time?! those cupcakes look DELICIOUS! i’d venture to say it’s a self-fulfilling prophesy now… you’re so close, and have also eaten a cupcake. :p like… if you eat a cookie, and then fall asleep. whatever works at this point, though.
HAPPY DUE DATE! 🙂

Hi Jennifer, the crust was white cornmeal with smoked salt and some fresh oregano and it was pan fried in a mix of coconut oil and olive oil.
Cheers!
