‘Nother morning. ‘Nother wine-over. ‘Nother run.
We slept until we woke up and then laced up to head out. Luckily we have sunlight and great weather for running. We found a pathway along a creek that was perfect for running.
Until we witnessed a drug deal happening under a bridge. I ran mile 2 in 7:45 out of flight + fright! We got back off the greenway (I took the fact that there were no other runners as a sign we might want to run elsewhere) and took to the streets. California is so beautiful! I love the design of the neighborhoods and streets. So different from the colonial East Coast way to city planning.
We ended up getting LOST. Sense of direction must still be on the East Coast. A simple jog turned into a 6 mile run, but we finally figured out where we made a wrong turn and were glad to get in a more hard-core workout anyways.
More good coffee. More plain yogurt + fruit!
I filled up on strabs, melon, a Frog Hollow fermented pear, cheerios, granola, a blob of yogurt and a dollop of Pumpkin Spice Almond Butter.
My body does not feel very well today 🙁
I find it morally wrong to spit out wine, but today I just might have to learn how to spit…
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
No! Not the spitting. I can’t even imagine. 🙂
Michele @ Healthy Cultivations says
Fermented pear — I’ve never had that before, but would love to try it. I love anything pear!!
kate says
Me too!
Christine says
Definitely spit! I’ve felt funny the first few times, but it’s worth it. But I do slowly savor and swallow my favs!
Fermented pear? == MORE BOOZE! 😛
Cookteen says
aw sometimes I sprint run when it’s so chilly to warm up! haha
Sarah @ Sarah's Shaping Up says
Yikes! Interesting run…. perhaps a little too interesting!
Hope you feel better! 🙂
Steph@stephsbitebybite says
At least that goes to show that you’re a focused and on high alert during your runs 🙂 Nothing like gettin a little flight or fight sensation in the morning!
Holly @ couchpotatoathlete says
“We slept until we woke up”
Yeah, that’s usually how it works! 🙂
Christie {Honoring Health} says
I thought that was really cute 😀
Kath says
It’s the long way of saying that we slept in!
Holly @ couchpotatoathlete says
I figured that is what you meant — it was just funny to read.
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
I’m jealous you’re still enjoying the Frog Hollow pears!! I think this weekend turned me into a pear snob…I’ll never be able to have a normal one again 🙂 Hope you feel well enough to have some fun today!
Sarah-Mae @ Eat, Run, Knit says
I am living vicariously through your trip right now while I sit and daydream up my own wine tour!!!
Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun says
Hope you feel better! It would be hard for me to spit out wine too. That’s no fun!
Heather C says
I just saw when I was getting my hair done on Saturday in Lorton (VA) they are opening a Great Harvest up there – SO exciting! Maybe you guys will stop in at the Lorton shop someday 🙂
Enjoy Cali!
Alina @ Duty Free Foodie says
“morally wrong to spit out wine” – I agree! Tasting wine without drinking it … well, the whole concept confuses me, to be quite honest.
Caitlyn (A Spoonful of Life) says
I guess that made for an exciting run. Eeek! Hope you feel better so you don’t have to “spit.”
Christin L. says
I have to admit that the 12 year old boy in me is snickering over the spit vs swallow predicament. Sorry, I had to! 🙂
Christine says
I thought about that as I wrote my reply….laughed…wrote it anyway!
Christin L. says
Your reply in that context almost made me spit my tea out just now! Too funny… glad I’m not the only one with an immature gutter-mind! 🙂
Melissa @ HerGreenLife says
What about asking for smaller tasting pours/sharing them with Matt? It sounds like tasting excess is diminishing the fun, which isn’t good.
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
I love how you wrote “until we witnessed a drug deal” and “California is so beautiful” in the same paragraph!! Hehe! Sounds like quite the adventure. Looks like a great brekkie! 🙂
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Looks like a perfect start to the day (aside from the dealin’)! Have fun today!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
No shame in spitting! Enjoy it while you’re there though – your body will recover when you get home. 🙂
Lily @ Lily's Health Pad says
Props to you for even tasting wine when you have a hangover! Man, I’d be stuck in the bed all day. Def not tasting more wine!!
Samantha @ Bikini Birthday says
I witnessed a drug deal whilst on a run once too.
It might have ended up being my fastest 5K
Joy says
I love the line “we slept until we woke up” 🙂 Also, I love how dedicated you are to your runs while on vacation. While not a concept I have implemented in my life; I will remember you as inspiration from now on. Another great post!
the salty girl says
Oh no! I thought you were going to talk about the problem of spitting and running. Yick. Spitting wine is necessary sometimes – particularly when you are hitting up a lot of vineyards and don’t want to be too tipsy!
Lauren at KeepItSweet says
that is how i felt after days of drinking in napa, but inevitably i was able to keep drinking (just took smaller tastes!)
Amanda (Eating Up) says
Ahh so scary! That will make you run fast. I also hate the fear of getting lost–I would love to have a running buddy!
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
I’ve never been into the whole wine spitting thing. Its a shame to waste that stuff 😉
Natalia - a side of simple says
I’ve never had cereal with yogurt before but now I’m craving some! Sometimes you just need cheerios 🙂
Mads says
hahaha nothing like a drug deal on a brief morning run…absolutely lovely 😛
Kiran says
Aww.. hope you feel better soon to continue enjoying California.
Susan says
I’ll only run on a small section of the Greenway by myself. You can run into all sorts of weird things there.
I’m a light-weight so I usually split a wine tasting with the BF. Saves money, too!
Tricia @ Saving room for dessert says
I was thinking that if I drank that much wine in one day I would be laying on the floor of the car. I am such a cheap date – one winery a day for me 🙂 Hope it passes quickly and that you have a terrific vacation.
Alexa @ The Girl In Chucks says
I spit out wine when I went wine tasting for the first time.
IT SPLASHED BACK INTO MY FACE! 🙁 🙁 🙁
So gross!
Haley says
Frog Hollow fermented pear?? I had to do a double-take on that one. Are you really eating a fermented pear on purpose??? hehe. I’ll have to research this a bit more… 😉
Enjoy California! I’ve never been to the east coast, but now I’m interested in the difference of street structure.
Feel better 🙂
Maddie (Healthy Maddie) says
Seeing the drug deal on your run probably gave you some adrenaline. Yikes! Sorry your not feeling too great 🙁
alana (at) the food says
sometimes you gotta bend the morals for the body!
Stacey (The Habit of Healthy) says
At least witnessing a drug deal made your run more ‘interesting’! With the wine thing, I say that you should do whatever doesn’t make you feel worse. Feeling rotten on holiday is horrible. However, I don’t drink so what do I know?!
Katie (The Boston Marathoner) says
Aie! That sounds like a rough morning…
Evan Thomas says
I would swallow if I were you
Missy says
Don’t spit!!! Don’t do it!!! 🙂 After a couple tastings and lots and lots of water…more carbs…you’ll be fine!!!! Hang in there!!! I am enjoying all your pics and reviews!!!
Amy says
Mamapedia has a great deal today that totally reminded me of you!
It’s $12 for $24 worth of Biscoff gourmet cookies. It’s for their online store. 🙂
Here’s the link to the deal: http://deals.mamapedia.com/deals/biscoff
I picked up a coupon code for myself and can’t wait to try your beloved Biscoff spread.
Lisa @bakebikeblog says
Congrats on your run after what was a big adventure yesterday!!! Have fun!
Nicole @ Body By Beer says
Even feeling icky on a day after too much wine, you still laced up? Now THAT is hardcore. 🙂
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
Getting lost while jogging’s good and bad at the same time. I mean, you’re lost which is never fun..but it kind of adds unexpected mileage which isn’t always so bad. 😛
Claire (Low Impact Fashionista) says
Hope you feel better so you can enjoy your day!
Camille says
I never understood the whole “spitting out” the wine thing. Wine is made to be drank, not spit!
Hope you feel better 🙁
Jasmine @ Eat Move Write says
You saw a DRUG DEAL on your run? Wow. Way to stay classy California. I apologize on behalf of Californians, but well… it is kind of funny. lol.
Halie says
Wow, that is scary, glad you were able to flee the situation! Well, enjoy the West Coast!
Hannah says
I still haven’t got around to making that nut butter, so thank you for the reminder! Almonds are on the list for grocery shopping this weekend 🙂
Elle (thewaybyelle.blogspot.com) says
Wow! Your breakfast looks like dessert to me! It’s sad that you ran so much faster because of the drug deal, but at least you know your “fight or flight” reflex is fully operational! Cali may have places much more beautiful than Nebraska, but at least we don’t have to worry about that! When I run at the Y the biggest problems I have are the chatty ladies getting out of group exercise when I’m trying to focus. : )
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
That IS a lot of wine but you know what they say… when in rome..
Simply Life says
hope you feel better soon and can enjoy such an incredible trip!!!
Laura (Starloz) says
oooooooh, a drug deal, how exciting!
your breakfast looks incredible.
Christine (The Raw Project) says
Don’t feel bad about spitting if you need to, I have to when my limit is reached. Wow, the almond butter sounds amazing.
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
No shame in spitting! Just swallow the ones that you love.
That being said, I’d have a hard time of doing that myself. Hope you’re feeling better! 😀
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I like to run when I’m feeling a little hungover too. Do you find it helps you recover faster, or is that just me? 😛
Erin @ the office appetite says
hahah i love your’s and matts faces in all of your pictures – you guys are SO cute!! 🙂
Hope you’re feeling better too!
RhodeyGirl says
Hope you have a fabulous day!
After reading about your love for the Frog Hollow dried peaches I wish we had done a trade! I am absolutely OBSESSED with their granola, and would have gladly made a switch with you!!!!
Shannon (A Better Me) says
Oh, spitting out good wine is a horrid thought to me too. But, I guess we must do what we must to feel semi-human in the mornings 😀 Looks like an awesome morning so far though! Except for the drug deal thingy…yikes…
stacey-healthylife says
Sounds like your body is ready for a detox.
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
The older I get, the less alchohol agrees with me. 🙁 I rarely drink anymore. Yay 30 😐
Dee says
I hope you’re feeling better today!
By the way this breakfast looks divine!
Ps. I would be so scared if I witnessed a drug deal too!
