Hi on a weekend! It’s been a long time since I put up a Saturday post, but I just have to share this gator sighting video with you all!
Golf Day
Thomas and Mazen went out to enjoy 9 holes together, and of course were looking for alligators.
They thought they had found a big one early on in their journey. (I can tell Mazen is actually pretty scared here!)
Biggest Gator Ever!
But then they stumbled upon the biggest gator we’ve ever seen!

They spotted him (or her?) from afar and came in for a closer look. Mazen stayed his distance, but Thomas was close enough that he backed away quickly when the gator rose and began walking. I think he had the intention of eating Mazen for lunch!
They watched from behind a bush as he cleared the golf course and went on his merry way 😎 He looks like he ate a deer recently!
Later Gator To The Grandparents
We had such a wonderful time with Thomas’s parents! They left yesterday to head home to Cville. We’ll be here through the weekend!
We had a fabulous last day, even if it was quite chilly.
Cinnamon Cheerios Hearts for breakfast
Easter Egg Hunt
We set up an Easter egg hunt for the boys. Birch totally “got it” this time! Each egg had 2 pastel M&Ms inside.
Geocaching
T and M went Geocaching. It’s “the world’s largest treasure hunt” and you use an app to find hidden treasures. It’s really cool! Mazen came back with some little sea creature figurines.
Lighthouse Climb
They also climbed up Old Baldy with Grandpa!
Sandwiches + More Egg Hunts + Nap
Meanwhile, Birch and I ate sandwiches and did more Easter egg hunts (over and over and over) on the porch and in the house. Then he went down for nap while I got some work done.
Semi Takeout
For dinner, we picked up some seafood chowder from Horizons and made a salad at home to pair with it.

Was Thomas zooming in or was he that close? I felt like even Mazen was way too close! Good thing he or she had eaten recently. No thank you lol!

Looks like you had some lovely family time.

As a Canadian I need more details on the gator – how do you safely view/ interact when you see them? Is it rare for them to attack humans? I am so interested in the huge gator picture. I would love to see thatin the wild, but would also be terrified!
Kath Younger says
I don’t know a ton of fact about them, but I don’t think they generally attack humans unless they are provoked. They can run… Most of the ones on the island are used to seeing people and are smaller than this guy was!

I love your blog! This question may be something you already touched on, but I’m just curious, how do you think about who to interact with during Covid? For example, do you feel everyone in your family are on the same page about safety, or do you make a bubble, etc.? I feel like I should have solved this problem many months ago but it’s a moving target! Anyway, love reading your blog!

We draw the line at our immediate families. (I haven’t been inside with any friends in a year, except for the 2 times I traveled with them and quarantined first). We are all on the same page, and before our trip last summer we all quarantined for a week since my parents hadn’t been vaccinated then. My parents are fully vaccinated now, and my sister and Matt have both had one shot. But we are all mask-wearing, hand-sanitizing, stay-at-homers so our risk level is about the same. In general I am comfortable with outdoors and masks, but not comfortable with anything indoors or shared air (like inside restaurants or inside the gym, etc.)
Kate says
Makes total sesne. It’s so nice that your family can do that and spend time together (even if it’s just a tiny immediate family circle)! I can’t wait til this thing is over.
Kath Younger says
Same. Once we’re all vaccinated I think that will take a lot of the fear out.

Holy gator! That thing was huge! The look so prehistoric to me like something leftover from the dinosaur era.

My boys watched your video several times and were fascinated – they are convinced we need to visit BHI immediately!

Awww you do!
