Last week was not the greatist – Matt came down with some full-body-ache disease, and I had a stomach bug for about 48 hours and caught a cold later in the week. Mazen didn’t catch either of the adult illnesses, thank goodness! But needless to say, my appetite was all over the place. I was actually convinced I might be pregnant for a day because I felt exactly like I did almost 2 years ago: random waves of nausea and cravings for cheese and ground beef. Since we’re not planning another baby yet, I was quite happy that I turned out to not be pregnant. And I was also reminded of how terrible the first trimester is. I’m not looking forward to going through that again! When you combine sickness with holiday parties, last week was one of the unhealthiest weeks I’ve had in ages. I’m not proud of that – I need some more meal plans, greens and smoothies in my life!
Pile ‘O pancakes for Mazen!
Two mom-sized ones with butter and syrup. And a mom-sized coffee!
Leftover ‘cakes with sunbutter, banana, clementine and scrambled eggs.
Half a grapefruit and some leftover oatmeal – sickness recovery.
Challah bun with egg, sunbutter and jam. And banana. Simple indeed.
And hot oats poured into the last of my jar!
I don’t go through them nearly as fast as I used to. Autumn Spice granola on top.
Leftover turkey soup (this was much closer to Thanksgiving than it appears)
Ace Barbecue with Karen! It’s our favorite take-out lunch. Half a biscuit, slaw, pork and mac and cheese
Melted brie and ham sandwich. Matt brought home some brie from Flora Artisanal Cheese, our new local cheese shop, and it was amazing – especially melted.
Lunch date with my man!
My stomach was recovering so I didn’t get within 10 feet of the salad bar, but the soup bar was perfect! Crab chowdah. With a side of cornbread.
We started off well with roasted herby chicken, butternut squash and brussels sprouts.
Another night I had a party to go to, so I just had a No Bull Burger with melted cheese over greens to tide my hunger and save room
Then things then went downhill…Cheerios and banana for dinner.
And lastly, an amazing homemade cheesy calzone Matt made that I only photographed with my phone because I had to dive in that fast
Followed by too many holiday parties to count!

That melted brie sandwich looks amazing, need to try to recreate that! I too need more greens…why is it so easy to eat peanut butter sandwiches and so hard to remember my veggies?
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
You may be going through nut butter jars slower, but I swear I’m going through them faster. We must have just switched places! 😉 Glad you’re feeling better. I’ve been sick this whole past week and still fighting…feeling better but still fighting.
Anele @ Success Along the Weigh says
Sorry to hear you guys were sick. Hopefully everyone is well heading into the holidays!
The calzone….YUUUUUUUUUUUUM!
lisa@bitesforbabies says
(In reference to the calzone) I HATE when I make a great recipe and I can’t photograph it…either because I dig in too fast and forget or because of bad lighting or my camera not working!

All about that line! :). I love how honest you are in the intro, we always have “those” weeks! Everything looked super yummy! Hope your feeling better!

My entire family had that bug and it is no fun at all! It completely reminded me of all-day morning sickness. All we could stomach was toast.

Kath, What is on your xmas wish list this year?
KathEats says
Giftcards, an infinity scarf, smart phone gloves!
Kavi360 says
Your “unhealthy” weeks are probably still better than the rest of our normal weeks! I’ve been trying to eat as many vegetables as possible b/c I am headed to BRAZIL and I hear that it’s harder to find veggies and salads down there at restaurants. Glad you’re feeling better – happy holidays 🙂
Laura says
What’s bad about Cheerios and a banana for dinner? Seems pretty healthy to me so maybe I’m missing something…
Ashlee@HisnHers says
I see that squiggly line in this post haha. Lowww and the starting to climb 😉
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
Glad you’re feeling better in time for Christmas! This time of year it seems like there’s always a bug going around.
Those little pancakes are too cute! Mazen has such a great appetite!

That looks like a Seeduction bun from Whole Foods? Or a beauty that was made at your bakery maybe? The Seeduction buns are my FAVORITE! All those yummy, toasty seeds. I always wish I could scrape up the extra seeds from the bottom of the bun bin.
Sorry to hear you had a sick time. Thanks for your honesty! Makes you that much more relatable to your readers.
Sarah says
I’m pretty sure that is a Dakota bun from the bakery. My GH here in MN makes it with sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and millet, it’s my favorite!

Glad you’re feeling better! I had the same stomach bug you did and thought I was pregnant too. I’m telling you I craved the exact same foods as my first trimester….carbs! Vegetables repulsed me for two days. I had a leftover pregnancy test laying around so I took it. So silly. Not pregnant, just sick. Mine was gone in about 36 hours. So weird!
Julie Rosene says
That calzone looks sooo good!
Angelica says
Have you tried broiling your grapefruit? So good!
Tracy says
A while back you mentioned that No Bull Burger was going to have a new flavor….did they yet?
KathEats says
I am not sure if it has debuted. I haven’t talked to them since they ended the market on Saturdays for the season. I bet it’s coming out soon if not already!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
That brie and ham sandwich looks so good! And is it weird that I think the cereal looks amazing? I loooove cereal but rarely buy it because I end up eating the whole box in 2 days… I love cheerios or rice chex with banana slices and milk!
Jesse says
hope you’re on the mend! sickness around the holidaze= no fun!

It was the holiday parties that did me in (reference weekend post 🙂 )

Sorry to hear ya’ll were sick…unfortunately looks like I’m getting the full-body-ache disease myself… That calzone looks delicious!
Sanaz@ Run for Cake says
Getting a stomach bug is the worst. I hope you are feeling better!
I love seeing all your eats and then my favorite…cereal 🙂 Sometimes nothing beats a delicious bowl of yummy cereal.
Livi says
Looks like it was still a relatively wholesome week! Balance right 😉 glad mazen and y’all are ok!

Hey kath!work has been winding down as of yesterday and I finally got to have a Kerf-a-thon and caught up with about ten of your posts! Just wanted to say I absolutely love your blog posts still and consistently level minded attitude in general to life/nutrition. You are a positive role model. I know a lot of people with eating disorders and is always send them to you and a selective few other blogs to see what balance looks like! Anyway, got quite excited when you said baby number two not yet… Which means there WILL BE another cutie! Happy holidays from UK ! 🙂
Sabrina @ Living, Learning, Eating says
Stomach bugs are the absolute worst, I’m glad you’re feeling better! I don’t have any as-good excuse for last week being super unhealthy, but I’m just starting to emerge from a food coma of massive amounts of sweets, cookies, carbs, and candied nuts right now…because I just came home from school at the beginning of the week and my parents are always like WE LOVE YOU EAT ALL THE FOOD. Lol. But on to a healthier week? 😛
@simple green moms says
You are so lucky the little guy didn’t get it! Sick babies are the worst…and don’t be so hard on yourself… your ‘bad’ eating is better than most peoples ‘good’ eating!!! =)
Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs says
Ooooh, that melted Brie sandwich looks delicious!
Sarah (Kale & Cupcakes) says
I hope your whole family is feeling fully recovered! I hate being sick, especially with things like the stomach bug. Yuck!!
And I’m all for cereal for dinner now and then. Sometimes it hits the spot. 😀

I’m glad you talked about having a bad week. I’ve had one too – between Christmas and the hubby coming home from deployment, we are in desperately need of fresh fruits and veggies! But oh the holiday crowds….I hate them and can’t get myself to go.
