Did you remember that it’s First Friday?!
Matt and I didn’t make it to the galleries tonight. I spent the afternoon doing boring work at my computer, munching on yogurt with cranberry sauce and hot tea with steamed milk.
And then I walked downtown to meet up with Faith!
Faith and I always meet at McGuffy for the dance performances on FF’s. Support the arts!! After the performance, our group of 4 had snowballed into 7 and we ventured around to find a restaurant who could take us. After a very unfriendly visit to Now & Zen followed by a sardine-like visit to Mono Loco’s bar, we settled down at a table on the enclosed patio.
Warmed, but a bit chilly.
But the Spice-A-Rita was HOT HOT HOT!
We shared a bowl of los chips around the table. Mono Loco has excellent chips! We were all really hungry at this point, so the chips were gobbled.
Our meals came out shortly…there were a few issues with raw onions and mine, but it seemed to come out in one piece.
Except after 2 bites I realized I was eating fried chicken instead of fried oysters
My replacement took a while to come out, and when it did I ate too much of it as I rushed to catch up. Now I feel too full with garlic/onion breath from salsa! I would like to eat a refreshing clementine but there is no more room at the Stomach Inn.
We had a great time with all of our friends though!
Our walk home was cold, but it was a WALK!!! And for that, I was very thankful.
Goodnight!

Yucca fries and pimento cheese…omg that sounds great right now.
I am headed for the airport. Last comment I am leaving til I hit…the equator. Or maybe just ATL Hartsfield in the morning. lol
Glad you and Faith had fun…that’s what Fri nites are all about!
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
So jealous of the menus at your local restaurants! We don’t have nearly the selection that you guys do. Not for at least 50 miles, anyway! 🙁 Fried oysters and yucca fries? OMG, that’s so awesome, and worth the wait. 🙂
Laura (Blogging Over Thyme) says
Just wanted to point out (unrelated to this post..) that in the new Google Reader extension, you can browse within a blog (click on links) within the reader itself. Not just to read the recent post, but go to any part of the blog! Very exciting.
Glad you liked the “next” feature! I love that one, but so glad there is another option too 🙂
Christina @ Just Running says
Kath, I LOVE your new shirt! Something about it (fit, style?) is very flattering.
Kori says
Kaci and I agree!!! We also think that Faith looks goorrrgeous! Love the scarf. Sorry about the couple of mishaps during the evening, but it looks like everything worked out for the best.
KathEats says

First Fridays always look so fun!
The healthy hipster says
Oh my goodness ive always wanted to try yuca fries! I know they a similar texture to potatoes but what’s the flavour like?
KathEats says
They are really just like russet potatoes!
Khushboo says
Yuca is on my list to “must-try” although I am yet to come across it!
Mai says
How fun! I live in a college town that’s right next to a cute little town that has First Friday events too. I finally made it to one after 3 years, haha.

Stomach Inn! HA! I want that rita right nowza!
Christine @ Oatmeal in my Bowl says
My husband and I went out and didn’t have the best dining experience either. But then after we played video game and that was fun! That Spice-A-Rita looks way hot! Don’t know if I could handle that and I like hot. lol.
Kelly @ Foodie Fiasco says
Yay for supporting the arts! 😉 I just don’t like it when my order gets mixed up, especially when I’m with friends. I bet you handled it very well, and with poise!
Lena @Fit on the Rocks says
I’ve been meaning to go to a First Friday art walk here in Denver, but it looks like I’ll postpone to spring or summer because I’d rather not have frost-bitten appendages. Your food looks great; it probably looks ever better because I love Mexican food.
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
Those spice-a-ritas really sound good! Wish we had them in NJ!
Lynn @ the actor's diet says
Chicken, oysters, all good!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
That’s kind of concerning that they gave you fried chicken instead of oysters! What if you were pescetarian!!
KathEats says
I know! I eat chicken, but I almost spit it out just because it was so strange to be expecting oysters
Karen says
Cute Loft t-shirt, Kath! And, everytime I see Faith on your blog, I think: “What a pretty smile!”
Happy weekend!

Mmm…fried oysters! A staple in the South!
Erin says
I am from the South and have never had them!! Something about oysters just grosses me out. 🙂
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
hate when that happens and you are rushing to eat your meal… takes all the fun out of eating!! sorry about the onion incident 🙁
faith says
Girl, you are so crafty with post titles!
KathEats says
Whee!
Allison says
The salad combo sounded delic- if only they had gotten it right the first time! I’ve never tried yucca fries but I’ve seen them on a bunch of menus lately… Is it a potato?!
KathEats says
It’s not a potato but it’s like one
Julia H. @ The Petite Spiel says
Eek, I bet it must not have been too great a moment when you bit into your meal expecting to taste oysters and tasting chicken instead! Hate when things like that happen! More than once, I’ve drank something thinking it was water when it wasn’t (milk, lemonade, etc…not fun).
