Kissing My Banana
How many days has it been? 3? My oatmeal was SO much better today thanks to this little guy
Today’s mix was:
- 1/3 cup oats
- 1/3 cup milk/hemp milk
- 1/3 cup water
- Half banana
- Vanilla
- 1/4 cup granola
- 2 tsp-ish chopped walnuts
- Spoonful PB
I am free of coffee symptoms as of yesterday! I realized last night that I never got the shoulder headache. Yay!! You know what else I have been free of since Thursday? Splenda . I’m very happy about that too.
I walked to the lightrail this morning and have a few things to do around the house. Lab to study for tomorrow’s lab and some other stuff to get ready for my all-day classes, that start MONDAY!! I might go running in a bit too 🙂
WordPress is still messed up, but the temporary fix seems to be working fine. If only this window would stop freezing on me I could insert the photos the right way!

your banana looks like a baby Nessie!
does anyone have suggestions of fun healthy places to eat or food stores in NYC? I’m going to be there for a week for work.
RhodeyGirl says
I knew you could live without Splenda Kath!!! I am really proud of you.. it is a tough habit to break but once done you are FREEEEE! haha! good work!
And it is great about the coffee too!
After a week away + no time for food shopping for another week + a microwave oatmeal explosion yesterday I finally got to have pb banana oatmeal this AM!! I am so happy!!! What a great day it is!
Kelly L. says
Ummm, am I the only one that thought that the banana picture resembled something else? 🙂 [Hides head in shame]
ann says
yes, that’s the first thing i thought too! hehe i scrolled quickly past 😉
Justy2003 says
Kelly L, I’m with you on that one…embarassingly enough! I was wondering if anyone would say anything 😉
Betsy says
i thought that too. *crawls into a corner*
Lauren says
Does cassie on fastfresh and fit still blog?
I remember last time she stopped when she started and didn’t say she was stopping, so I am wondering is she is doing that again?
Katie says
OMGosh, I know I am *so* upset when we don’t have bananas in the house, too. But now that I have my husband putting them in his protien shakes I can convince him to go on a grocery run for them too. YAY for bananas and oatmeal!
Jana says
phew, good thing i am not alone with my immaturity here.. *laugh* i saw the picture AND the caption and just started laughing out loud (at work, mind you). good old freudian slip? 🙂
Tina says
Mmmm, banana! I’ve got some super-duper ripe bananas just waiting to be made into banana bread this evening. 🙂
BethT says
haha I thought I was the only pervert.
hk says
I, too, just restocked my bananas! thank goodness I didn’t have to worry about going a few days without, 3 days…I can’t imagine 🙂
Heather says
OMG, that banana picture cracked me up! Thanks for the laugh this morning 🙂
Stacy says
I’ve got to admit that I laughed out loud as well at the banana 🙂

i live in nyc and there are a TON of places. for fancy restaurants, can’t beat pure food and wine, but it’s pricey. less expensive, but still good and healthy, places to try – angelika kitchen, josie’s…there are a ton. as for shopping, there’s a whole foods and a trader joe’s in union square and a bunch of smaller natural foods stores and organic markets in different neighborhoods – if you need more suggestions, let me know!
Amy says
Yeah, I can make a dirty joke out of anything, I’m from NJ after all, but that picture and its caption are undeniably phallic! hehe
Glad you got your bananas back! I need bananas and oatmeal — you would not survive in my house right now!
haya says
wait…what’s wrong with splenda?
Firecracker says
Re Claire’s post about healthy restaurants in NYC: Zen Palate (I think has a couple of locations) and Candle 79/Candle Cafe. Both vegetarian and delicious!
DaisyMay says
Maybe Kath has other things on the mind as well. She just did have a GREAT anniversary.
Becca says
Haha, glad I’m not the only one with a dirty mind!
Kiala says
Penis banana.
There. I said it.
Kelly L. says
Ha ha, glad I got it out in the open. Going with Kiala’s post, in summary:
Kath your banana looks like a penis. You titled your post kissing my banana. Some of us (okay alot of us) thought very bad things. Perhaps you should have titled it, ” I finally went to the store and got some bananas because i was out”. 🙂
VeggieGirl says
Kath, that photograph is TOO hilarious – the banana DOES look like it’s puckering its lips or something, haha!!
eliza says
kath have you ever heard of the book “the slow down diet” i would DEFINITELY RECCOMEND it to all of you!
Anne P says
hah, i am also a pervert and was not thinking of bananas when i saw that photo. perhaps kath did that on purpose to spur some interesting conversation… love it!
Allison K. says
I did a double take at the banana at first! Nothing like a phallic banana to start off the morning! 🙂
Chelsea says
Wow what a visual. That was dirty Ms. Y!
Jenn says
Haha that banana seriously looks like its puckering up 🙂 Everyone else, what dirty minds!! Just kidding, I definitely “went there” too!
I’m glad to hear you are feeling better sans coffee and Splenda, Kath!!
Sarah says
It’s amazing how our favorite foods make us feel 🙂
Yesterday I had a dribble of soy milk left and I got panicky thinking I could run out and have NONE in the house! I had to run out and find it (only two stores in my area carry it).
Elina says
Kath, I don’t know anything about worldpress and I didn’t read the other suggestions, but the one fix that comes to mind is to try internet explorer instead of firefox. I had a window freezing problem the other day on a website I use that’s been recently updated, and switching to internet explorer did the trick. I hope that helps! Sorry if you already tried this and it’s a stupid suggestion 🙂
Tina says
Haha, I totally thought that too about the banana! I have a dirty mind though! 🙂
Ally says
Funniest thread ever. I especially loved your summary Kelly L.

So many options!! Gobo is always a winner. I am a big fan of Josie’s, especially for brunch with the girls (they have great organic-fruit-infused cocktails.) For ordering in, Pump (several locations) is as healthy as you can get (but the food is good!) Lots of “build your own salad” places, like Chop’t and Tossed. Dojo, in the Village, has healthy, cheap eats if you need a quick bite. Kate’s Joint, in the East Village, does vegetarian ‘diner’ food. I personally do NOT recommend Zen Palate – I’ve eaten there several times and find the food subpar. If you are on the UWS, do your shopping at FAIRWAY! If not, let me know what neighborhood you’ll be in (I have lived ALL over the city), and I could probably tell you the closest health-food stores/eateries.
Kath says
Hahahha. You guys are nuts. That NEVER crossed my mine. I’m siding with the Loch Ness monster giving a kiss!!
Haya,
Nothing’s wrong with splenda, but it is an artificial substance. Like coffee, I’d rather work on having it every now and then than everyday and coffee was the only thing I put it in.
eliza,
Thanks for the rec. I’ll look for it!
Elina ,
Excellent suggestion, but I’ve already tried it 🙁 And tried it in Safari. And on my other computer. And the husband’s browser at work. And without tabs. And updated Flash. And updated Java. I’m clueless other than re-installing WordPress, which would mean I’d risk not having the proper backups for the blog and losing posts and more. I need help 🙁
Kath
yaz says
Kath, why don’t you try stevia instead of splenda?
magpie says
Haha I thought that too about the banana…
Congrats on being Splenda and coffee free! I’ve been trying to cut out caffeine and artificial sweeteners since I read Skinny Bitch – so far I can cut out caffeine pretty easily, but every once in a while I have a diet soda =/ (caffeine free, of course 😛 )
Kath says
Yaz,
I’ve never been fond of the taste of Stevia. It just doesn’t sit right. It doesn’t have the round taste of splenda.

Vegan on Stage says
HEY! i just found your blog but im soooo gald I did!!!
Congrats on giving up coffee and SPLENDA!!! I gave them up about 3 months ago and i have honestly never felt better.
Splenda is probably one of the worst things we can put into our bodies…although its calorie free it actually tricks our bodies into thinking that we NEED MORE SUGAR!!! SO CONGRATS!!!!

for Claire:
I live in the city and I have a new favorite restaurant: Quantum Leap on 1st ave and 12th st. Its a vegetarian place (but they also do fish) and it is delicious!!
