We lucked out with gorgeous weather these past few days. Blue skies and mild temps. I remember sweltering on the beach other summers, so these 80-something degree days is a blessing. Especially since I’m not thrilled about swimming with the sharks this year!
Breakfast yesterday – scrambled eggs and swirl toast.
For our workout we geared up for the beach and then did this bootcamp among sand castles and buckets of water. The workout was four sets of 3 exercises and we did each one for 1 minute. The top lines were all using our heavy sandbag “kettlebells” and we rounded the set with a body weight strength exercise and a cardio one. We did the whole thing twice through with some suicides for a warmup. It was a great little workout!
We came in for lunch after a while, and I made a salad with greens, cheese, peach and leftover salmon. Plus chips – nothing says beach week like kettle chips!
After our afternoon beach activities (bocce ball, swimming) we got dressed up for a night out.
White Plum sent me their Stripe A Pose Day Dress and Iman Layered Necklace to bring with me on this trip as part of our partnership for the year. This dress is super comfortable – the fabric is thick and stretchy, almost like seersucker. And I love the complementing necklaces! And for you guys – 25% off your entire purchase good through August 6: KATH25OFF!!
Mazen went out with mom and dad to the boardwalk for pizza and ice cream while we older kids went out on our own.
Larbs, Matt and I went to a bar for beers and clams for our first stop –
And then we sat on the porch at Havana’s for dinner. We enjoyed this amazing Sonoma Chardonnay from Simi –
And then we shared mussels, fried oysters and a lobster and seafood bake before heading out for some delicious ice cream!
Boardwalk selfie!
We walked home about a mile on the beach. Love the ambiance that time of day!
Back at home we played a game out Outburst. It was a bit outdated, and Matt commented that it would be fun to play a 2015 version with updated topics. Then we noticed the top of the box claimed it already was updated once before!
Time for sunscreen!

Do you have any tips for groceries for a beach trip? Do you bring a week’s worth of groceries with you? Does your produce last that long? Or do you bring enough for the first few days and then do a shop mid week?
We’re headed out for our first week beach vacation in a house rental In a few days and dont know the best way to prepare!!
KathEats says
We have a massive grocery list we use from year to year that includes pantry staples and meal plan ideas…maybe I’ll do a post about it! We bring a lot of dry goods/spices from home as well as some fresh things in a cooler (some things we had in our fridge and didnt want to throw out) but we do most of the shopping here at the store and fish markets.

All your vacations always look so fun and relaxing!!! Just wondering, why serve Old Bay on the side instead of cooking it into your food?
KathEats says
We do both!

Love that photo of you, your mom and sister! You three look like beach goddesses!
Liz says
Are you at your parents place, or renting a house somewhere else? Looks amazing!
KathEats says
Renting with my parents – we don’t have a beach house anywhere.

Hi Kath! I’m loving your vacay almost as much as you! I just found your blog yesterday and when I saw that all of you were exercising on the beach, I thought no way could I do it…vacations are for doing NOTHING! Now today I see a better picture as to how you combine fun and exercise and a beautiful ocean to keep you busy. Your meals are fabulous…there’s just no reason to indulge in anything more than the occasional ice cream when you make lovely meals such as you have.
We actually visited your town last summer on a road trip from D.C. to a condo we own in Asheville. My son owns a bar in C’ville right by the university–it’s called Trinity. Nothing fancy…if you know college kids, right?!
I’m going to enjoy following you—I really need to work in some weights with my cardio when I get back to the gym. I’m nursing an arm that I broke in three places so I’m not doing much but pecking away on my laptop!!
Enjoy your stay…your little guy is SO cute!! 🙂

Hi Jane! I know Trinity but haven’t been before! I will make an effort ; ) And I have a hard time sitting still – exercise makes me feel good : )

Cute dress! Stripes are my favorite. But “Stripe a Post?” Is that a typo?
KathEats says
Yes – thanks for the catch! Stripe a POSE

I love that dress — I’ve been looking for a dress that is in between casual / nice enough to wear out! It’s so hard for me to shop online! And that ice cream looks delicious 🙂 My favorite part of summer!

Kath I love the gold earrings you are wearing with that dress…do you remember where they’re from?
KathEats says
They’re the Grace earrings from Stella & Dot!
