Annddddd….we’re back to Comcast.
I spent HOURS on the phone with Century Link + DirecTV today when they didn’t show up for my appointment. I bounced back and forth – harder than a tennis ball – from the two companies.
It was not pretty. In fact, very ugly. No, my service will not be $59.99. Someone lied to me. $100 was the correct price. And I was transferred to about 6 different numbers and on hold or the phone for a total of 2 hours. Enough to burn out my phone and body’s batteries.
GUFFFFFFF. Today’s calls made Comcast look pretty. So we’re staying with them.
Mid phone call hunger:
Hail Merry Grawlnola – love this flavor and the touch of cinnamon
I also cleaned under the fridge when Justin went back there to tape the trim. SO.much.dog.food. But I got it pretty clean! I’ve never cleaned under the fridge before, I am embarrassed to say, so it felt pretty responsible of me! [All the doors are from the other parts of the house where he is painting!]
When I finally got home, beer was necessary.
Matt arrived shortly and we opened this new pumpkin beer by Shipyard.
Not a fan. It was weak. Could have just been another amber ale. Such a shame!
I made a special stop on my way home to pick up dinner ingredients. We were supposed to go over to Faith + Tate’s but Faith is sick!! 🙁 Sadness.
So I picked up some loganic bison and we feasted on sliders on Honey Whole Wheat buns – with a puddle of K+M!
Broccoli on the side – seasoned with garlic gold crumbles!
After that, we fell in love again over this Berkshire’s Brewing Imperial Stout. I told Matt the Century Link + DircTV story and he told me about today at the bakery. A nice close to the evening.
Then I ate a few Biscoff. The real close to the evening!
Larbs + Matt are coming to visit this weekend! That’s something real fun!
Allie@LiveLaughEat says
Biscoff makes everything better! K+M puddles too.
Laura T. says
Bummed to hear you don’t like the Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin…I had it last season and thought it was fabulous!
KathEats says
It was just too bland!! I wanted to mix it with a spiced beer
Liz says
Shipyard also has a Pumpkin beer called “Pumpkinhead” that I have not been able to find an equal for. It is by far my favorite pumpkin beer.
Laura in Pgh says
Liz – I tried the Pumpkinhead Ale last October when I was in Maine. Loved it! So much so that I went to great lengths to find it when I got back home to Pittsburgh. Give it a try Kath and tell us what you think.
Sweet and Savvy says
Wow! Cable companies seriously need to work on their customer service!!
Your bison Burger looks absolutely amazing! I want to try bison so badly.
Molly @ RDexposed says
I still despise Comcast.
And is that a little doggie door that I see? You will need a doggie to match it!
Cait's Plate says
Boo, poor Faith 🙁 At least it still looks like you had a wonderful dinner! Sorry about the service frustrations…these companies can be SO trying so I definitely hear you!
Courtney says
I’m sorry about Comcast! But your new kitchen looks AWESOME!!!!!
Cat @Breakfast to Bed says
not gonna lie, last year around this time, I had a few pumpkin beers, and now I’m nursing my 4 mo. You’ve been warned.
KathEats says
Oh no. I am warned!!
Angie says
Bummer about Comcast!
Do you find the GH buns dense? I love almost everything GH makes, but the buns are just too heavy for my palate.
KathEats says
I love ’em!! The Virginia rolls are fluffier
lynda @ healthy hoboken girl says
didn’t you just want to cry after being on the phone that long??!! Sorry you had all that cable crap to deal with. Love the new kitchen, what an exciting time to move! Fall is so beautiful!!
KathEats says
I did cry actually…
Shannon @ Her Dog Blog says
I have a similar horror story about moving and Comcast. Let’s just say that we initiated the install a week before we moved and it’s been 6 weeks in our new house now without Internet! Do you think Internet companies yank us around because they know they can?
Amanda- The Nutritionist Reviews says
I love your Barney Butter shirt!
Emily says
I haaaate dealing with the phone/internet people, comcast can drive a person to drink for real! I usually pass those calls off to my mom, she is assertive but kind…I am just assertive and annoyed. She somehow seems to get them back down their price a bit everytime. Dinner looks great, I need to have another burger before summer leaves for good 🙁
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
Gahh talk about annoyance! Glad everything got sorted out.
Ashley says
We pretty much live in beer country over here, but one type of beer that is lacking are the pumpkins! So sad! I can never find the ones you talk about. 🙂
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Yeah, I HATE DirecTv and we don’t have cable in our neighborhood yet. UGH. Oh well, we are going without for now. I’m just tired of them. Sorry Faith was sick and you couldn’t see them. I’m sure it was a nice evening anyway. I hope you get a restful sleep!
Sana says
Kudos’ for staying on the phone for so long, I would be nicer to customer service, if I did not have to wait so long for an answer!!
Laury @thefitnessdish says
We have to call comcast every 6 months to re-negotiate our contract and threaten to leave for FIOS. The bill will go up like $100. more than it was all of a sudden…I hat ethem but we are creatures of habit so we don’t switch ever.
Hannah says
I don’t even know how to clean under the fridge! I s’pose you’d have to move it first 😛
Donna says
You are lucky Directv didn’t work out…. The service was horrible and once we cancelled we were stuck with the ugly satellite on the roof and had to remove it ourselves.
Angel7 says
I had technical issues this week that I had to contend with–oh, the joys–the worst of which was lost emails in my Inbox that I did not delete. I am so upset about that, because there were pictures in my Inbox that I did not put in a folder!!! I am hoping that tech. support can retrieve all the emails.

katie @KatieDid says
I’ve actually found comcast extremely helpful lately. I had a super helpful woman work with me last night on the phone and even made it out with some credit on my account for a little mistake they made! Sorry you had to go through that… very very frustrating. Your dinner looks delicious though, I’ve been wanting to pick up bison for ages but I still haven’t, must change that!
lynn @ the actor's diet says
funny, last time i had hail merry in the house it was when i was stressed. i think i titled my post “hail merry full of grace”
Melissa says
Girrrl, I applaud your patience. I definitely would’ve cried, too.
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
Ugh — sorry to hear about the Century Link issues! I think that is why we never left Comcast, because it seems there isn’t a better option!
M says
Wondering why you call all your burgers “sliders”
these days Kath?
Is this the trendy term or are these somehow different
than burgers?
Thanks 🙂
KathEats says
Sliders are little burgers served on little buns. Because we use our GH rolls so often as buns, we’ve been making little burgers. It’s a great way to get the burger craving without eating a humongous burger.
M says
Thanks, I was wondering if they were smaller
(really hard to tell from photos!)
Christena says
Did you feel full after just one slider? Your food looks sooo good, but I’m not sure that a slider & a bit of broccoli would have been enough for me. Of course, I don’t drink beer, so maybe that fills you up before you eat?
KathEats says
Yeah, it was plenty. ‘Specially with the beer
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I HATE being on hold—so sorry about that crazy afternoon .GAH!
Sleep well with that stress of your back and a delicious meal in the tummy 😉
Lindsay @ Lindsay's List says
Burgers make everything better! I always seem to make a huge mess with the amount of K&M I use….probably need to tone it down.
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
Bummer on the beer! I love pumpkin beer. I have my eyes peeled for Pumpking- I’ve never seen it being sold here, but I’m hoping I can find it this year 🙂
Liz @ Southern Charm says
Ohh I forgot about bison … must get some this week!
Rosa - Fitness, Food, Fulfilled says
Bison burgers are so so good. I’m kind of loving them more than the ground beef or turkey.
That’s disappointing about the Shipyard. I saw this beer in Cost Plus and was thinking about buying it, but I think I’ll avoid it now. Thanks for the review!
Denise says
I say stick with Comcast/Xfinity! We have tried to find a better deal with numerous providers and keep coming back. OnDemand keeps improving everyday, cable internet is fabulous and the phone doesn’t go out in every storm. And, if you call them every once and a while and tell them you are thinking of switching, they search around to see what price breaks they can give you. Oh, and I love the idea of pumpkin ale and cinnamony Biscoff – can’t wait to try!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
i’m pretty sure all cable and internet companies try and make our lives as difficult as possible…
K says
yeah for BBC!! and that is so the burger I wish I had tonight (mine? not so yummy)
stella says
Kath, how much are the chia seeds at WF for you in the bulk bins? My WF sells then for $7/lb….
Check the next time you go because $20 for 2lbs is more expensive the last time I checked. I live on the East Coast too.
KathEats says
Ooooo – I’ll have to check our prices!! $7/lb is great!
Heidi - apples under my bed says
Those burgers look ridiculously good!! Hope things with the house connections sort out soon. I’m such a bad grown up with stuff like that. Good luck!
Heidi xo
Deva (Voracious Vorilee) says
I don’t like cleaning under the fridge. Or stove. We’ve pulled ours out and scrubbed up under them a couple of times. It is a very adult cleaning task, isn’t it?
kaila@ healthy helper blog! says
Those burgers look BOMB! Ya got me wanting some good ol mustard and ketchup!
Namaste Gurl says
YAY for moving into a new and beautiful house. No for lots of packing and cleaning. You’ll get through it with no problem you two; just hang in there ! 🙂
Theresa says
I had a sip of Shipyard the other night and loved it! Can’t wait to get some more…
To each her own pumpkin beer I guess LOL!!!
😉
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Cable ish is seriously the most frustrating process ever. Sorry you had to deal with that all day. At least it ended well with that beer + burger 🙂
Kayla @ Sprouty Buns says
dealing with internet/cable/TV customer service people is a grueling task! Those beers are well deserved 🙂
Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance says
My roommate & I were quoted $69 by our cable company, but then found out that it was supposed to be $100! What is this, a new sales technique?
Chelsea says
Hey Kath! I’ve been reading your blog for months, and finally bought some Garlic Gold – specifically through your OpenSky deals! I had a $10 credit, so figured it was the perfect time 🙂 I can’t wait to season veggies and salads with GG!
It stinks that you had to spend so much time with cable companies today. Why can’t companies just be easier to communicate with?
Good luck with moving – your kitchen looks awesome!
KathEats says
Sweet! I love the crunchies and the oils
Jil @ Big City, Lil' Kitchen says
Yeah I was quoted for a certain price by Comcast and then watched it suddenly jump $20, and I spent today on the phone bc they charged me for the month…after… I cancelled. Funnnnnnnn.
Britt @ RunWithBritt says
That broccoli is perfection! Such a bummer about the pumpkin beer, it sounded so promising!
Maria says
So sorry about your troubles with TV providers. Yuck! I hope hat you had a nice little cry to get out the frustration after all of that.
What is your favorite pumpkin beer? I have never had one and would love to pick some up!
KathEats says
Here’s a list of my favs:
https://www.katheats.com/drinkable-pumpkin
Lindsay @ bikingbefore bed says
I hope the beer and burgers helped ease the pain of dealing with cable companies… I have an antenna if you just want to throw in the towel. I used it for a few months when I knew I wasn’t going to be able to fulfill a full year contract. Everytime I get my bill I debate using it again!
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
Having dealt with DirecTV before, I totally understand needing the beer after.
Chelsea @ Go Chelsea Go! says
I know what you mean about Shipyard’s Pumpkin Beer–it is a little bland. But I noticed that when you don’t refrigerate it, it has a lot more flavor!
KathEats says
So you drank it room temp? I don’t know what I think about that..
Chelsea @ Go Chelsea Go! says
Not exactly room temp. What I should have said was that I put it in the freezer for a few minutes to put a bit of a chill on it (if it’s room temp), and then drink. I believe it says on the bottle to drink it when it’s at 50 degrees?
Lilly says
Sorry to hear about the long phone convo, I swear I never manage to get off the phone with the internet service people without a headache, why is that? It can be so frustrating but at least your delicious dinner made up for it 🙂
Lara @TresLaLa says
Awww, and you gave them such a nice write-up about customer service too. Do they know who they’re dealing with?!? 😉
KathEats says
I raved about Century Link ALL week to my friends – what a waste of breath!
gina (fitnessista) says
i have century link + direct tv.. and hate it already. it’s only been a month! blah.
hope you have a lovely weekend <3
Khushboo says
Burgers are incomplete without ketchup & mustard!
Stella says
Cable companies are the worse! I would need a beer too afterwards. But I’m a wine drinker.
I just wish I liked beer. I’ve tried and tried. I just don’t like the taste. Hubby says nothing tastes as good as an ice cold beer on a hot day. Sounds so great in my head but reality is not so great.
Any suggestions to try to acquire a taste for beer?
KathEats says
Please provide a list of the beers you have had!
I think the problem is most people think Bud Light and Yuengling = beer. That’s like saying that Two Buck Chuck = wine. Maybe you’ve had a ton of different kinds, but you gotta find your niche. There are a lot of beers that I don’t like. More than I do!
KathEats says
[But in general, I’m probably going to love a craft brew]
Stella says
LOL that may have been my problem: I’ve been trying Two Buck Chuck beer! It’s been so long since I’ve even tried a beer, I can’t tell you what I’ve tried. Definitely have tried the obvious – Bud Light, Miller and Corona. I’ve tried others but don’t remember the names. I love pumpkin so maybe I’ll look for a pumpkin beer and try again.
Asuma says
The grawnola looks yum!!! How is it different from the usual granola, by the way?
KathEats says
It’s not made of oats – it’s mashed nuts and seeds and things. This orange cinnamon is really good – not too orangey
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
I can’t imagine pumpkin beer!
Hillary says
Why why why do these companies make it so impossible to have good service? It’s embarrassing for them!
Glad you made up for your lame day with a delicious dinner. Mmmm, bison!
Amy says
I used to work for Sprint and customer service in call centers has gotten so horrible over the years. Even when I was an employee I had a hard time finding someone who could help me. It just seems like people don’t want to take responsibility or do anything to help someone, it’s just a paycheck. That’s why I get mad fast and use a very stern voice and ask for a supervisor right on the spot… I hate doing it, but it works.
lauri (redheadrecipes.com) says
During our last move, we decided to try directTV and were quoted a great price. I was so excited about all the money we were going to save… and then the guy showed up to install everything and we got a different story–> our bill was going to be almost twice as much!! I spent a couple hours on the phone (mostly on hold) trying to cancel our service. Such a HORRIBLE company!
Time warner cable is more expensive, but we’ve always had good customer service!
Man, I’m sure gonna miss pumpkin beer this season! I almost grabbed a 6pack at the store the other day, and then I remembered… butter bean (our nickname bc that’s what he/she looked like on the US) can’t have beer 🙂
I can’t wait to see some house pics!!!!!!!
Leanne says
I had the same issue with Direct TV last week. I was ready to switch from Comcast for our new house but they NEVER could confirm a price and kept avoiding the question when I asked. And I had to go and was told I could not call the rep back and that she would call me as soon as she could but could not guarantee a time. She called the next day at 8 PM. I just gave up and Comcast was there the next day setting us up.
Jenn says
Funny. I’m sitting here reading this for the first time with Jamie. He thinks it sick how not only do we both clean under the refrigerator, but we did it simultaneously without knowledge of doing so. However, I assure you, what was under my fridge was WAY WORSE! It’s the first time I cleaned under it in 5 years…and we used to have 3 dogs upstairs before Levi.
Hoping to make it to the bakery today for some bread and nut butter of some sort 🙂
faith says
🙁
My dinner wasn’t suited for guests, that’s for sure; a dry piece of Dekota and some miso soup. The bread was amazing though, of course.
I will make dinner up to you sometime soon!
katie carey says
We have a shipyard pumpkin beer up here in CT, brewed in Maine, but it has a different label (it’s the headless horseman with the jack-o-lantern head), and is AMAZING. I suggest seeking it out!
Jessica @ Healthy Dairyland says
I love that beer glass with the Hunter S. Thompson quote! Where did you get it?
Kath says
It was a Matt find!
Steph says
Eep! Bummer about the two hours on hold. Next time you have to call customer service (gulp), maybe give http://www.fastcustomer.com a try? (Of course, that might mean less on-hold munching of delicious granola, but you could just have such a snack attack *without* being on hold, too.) 🙂
Jill W says
Those bison loganic sliders look delicious!
I just made the most of out gardenburgers the other night, made them in a frying pan with extra virgin olive oil (instead of recommended spray), grilled the cherry tomato foccacia bread we used for buns, and served with butterkase cheese, crips dill pickle and crunchy red onion and of course a healthy dollop of stone ground brown mustard. It was delicious!
We’re still settling in to Sicily, and it’ll be a few weeks til we’re in our apartment, so I’m still on the look out for local/organic supplies; plus, finding that information is a little more challenging from what I’ve found so far.
Margo @ Peanut Butter Trees says
So strange, I had the smashed pumpkin last year and thought it was very full of pumpkin flavor! Maybe this year’s batch is different? I’ve got a one of the big ones sitting on my counter, maybe I’ll open it tonight and see if I agree with you. Oh and glad you enjoyed the other Berkshire beer! 🙂
Mark Kirk says
Whatever works, whatever…I am not saying other providers are not any better, But check out Wired Magazine’s articles on Comcast. While most the rest of the world gets high speed internet etc as a rule as they do not put a throttle on the speed, here in America we pay for different levels of speed. Comcast WAS the company that paid a large group of people to show up early and get in a line go into courtroom meetings and fill chairs and sleep in order to block any who wished to argue against this throttling action on the net which comes out of GREED and also slows our business world and competitiveness with the rest of the world. I also have to say all providers are all extremely slow at times in responsiveness [I have tried them all] and no I do not work for any of them. The pumpkin beer makes me think about drinking as a sober ex drinker I have to say it sounds great. Cheers!
Mark Kirk says
Darn! I forgot to add a illustration within my comment of what’s a matter with letting them make some money with levels of speed [Besides the effect on business]…..So here it is; Hi just moved in huh well you need some water but at the bottom tier your glass will take a hour to fill so you might wanna boost that up to our next tier plus a additional charge from us to take the trouble…and when you realize that’s not much better another additional charge and you will be able to fill it within about ten minutes.Etc..these companies are not only charging us for flow rate but amount used too, I don’t have to worry about that with my electric or water bill so WTF. I no longer pay for any cable television and am happy with commercial free disc and open air television. Cheers!
