In honor of Earth Day…things KERF does to
the earth:BIKE EVERYWHERE! [Duh!]
Choose GREEN cleaners. Not only reducing chemicals in our household and Cville’s water supply, but also reducing plastic bottles and the emissions of trucks that would have had to move them.
We eat lots of delicious vegetarian meals and choose as many local foods as we can:
Enjoy nature, with hikes, walks and picnics
We RECYCLE [and reduce and reuse]
We have reusable bags growing out of our ears
We hold off on air conditioning as long as possible and we turn our heat waaaay down at night
Nobody can be PERFECT but we can all do our best!

Body Pump today was great – I used extra heavy weights and really challenged myself. And I managed to finish every song through! After class I sweated out a few on the Stairmaster since I didn’t get any biking cardio in, and called it lunchtime.
I had an awesome salad – mostly veggies dressed in olive oil and Cherry Balsamic Vinegar topped with a bean burger from last night, sun-dried tomatoes and cilantro
And for dessert, a slice of High Five with jam and a smidge of Flying Squirrel PB – Cinnamon!
The Bears got something fun in the mail today!!
A card from Grammie Buzz!
They said they actually LOVE tofu and sprouts, but they will be excited to eat some chocolate on Easter, Grammie.
It’s freezing here today, but Sunday’s forecast has 80* and sunny!
Have a great afternoon!!
chloe@ 321delish.com says
The sun shines for a reason :0
chloe@ 321delish.com says

Freya (Brit Chick Runs) says
I wish their was a Body Pump near me – I NEED to do more weights! My 3 pound dumb bells just don’t cut it anymore :p
Have a fabulous afternoon!
Kim @ Spoonful of Sass says
Sometimes I feel like my reusable shopping bags mate and multiply! But it does make even big trips to the store a breeze!

Happy Easter the the bears! Too funny. 🙂

Kaitlyn @ 7 Plates says
It’s pretty cold here too.. and by that I mean 61 degrees 😉 but it’s rainy… Yuck. Easter Sunday should be nice though. Yay!
Stacey (Being Stacey) says
I’m with you on the biking thing. We sold our car and now I bike to work and back everyday, which totals about 60 miles a week. It makes me feel good that although I am far from perfect, at least I am doing my bit.
Ashley says
Love the KERF earth love!!! 🙂
Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food says
It is just too sweet that your Grandma sends you Easter cards! 🙂
You two set a wonderful example for living a green and earth conscious life. Thank you! 🙂
Valerie @ City|Life|Eats says
what a great post – I can really relate to living green. My husband and I specifically don’t own a car, walk everywhere, take public transportation otherwise, use green cleaners for our small apartment and green toiletry products for ourselves.
hippierunner says
It makes me so happy to see how eco-conscious you are! Especially since you’re such an influential blogger, hopefully you have inspired others to do as you do. 🙂
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
Your Mom is hilarious — she should write a book about the Bears (complete with your photographs of course).
Baking Books says
Your mom sends you money! What a mom!
“Try to do the best you can” – that’s all anyone can do I guess. The GH bread looks so chewy. Yum-o.
Mind if I ask a question? – in terms of living location – do you look more for a nice house to live in? Or would you settle for something not ideal but in a better location? Like closer to your store, etc.
Deb says
Do you continue to eat the way you did when you reached your weight goal/were losing weight? Or have you been more lenient after the loss and what do you do to make sure you don’t go back to your starting weight?
KathEats says
I eat better now than I did then, I’d say. More whole foods, more vegetables. I didn’t drink alcohol as often then (but I drank MORE when I did) and I think my meals are slightly bigger now (then I was packing a lunch for work everyday and ate a sandwich with yogurt, pretzels and dark chocolate everyday). If I were to lose now (sometimes I am an you guys just don’t know!) I just cut back on alcohol, dessert and second portions.
Deb says
So in other words your main focus now is to eat wholesome and healthily rather than losing weight? I think this method is more beneficial, for our mental health as well!
KathEats says
Yes. I’ve been maintaining my weight for a few years now. It has its ups and downs, but my focus is just on eating well and enjoying a healthy life.
val @ lots of dishes says
What a great idea for a post, you do <3 the earth! You should take advantage of a free coffee or tea at a starbucks/caribou/one of the other multiple places if you bring in a reusable mug!
Namaste Gurl says
🙂
Happy, happy earth day and easter, Kath!
Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) says
cards with cash in them from grandma’s are the BEST! I remember getting those when I was growing up!
Love all the things you do…recycling to water bottles to plant based meals….I do the same.
Happy Earth Day & Happy Easter!

I hope once you and Matt have your own kids, that she won’t forget about the bears too, lol!
The Teenage Taste says
Happy Earth Day, Kath! I found it funny that Good Friday is on Earth Day this year. Everyone that is Catholic is somewhat forced to eat vegetarian today! I’m sure Mother Earth likes that. Haha. 😉
Meg says
Happy Earth Day! (KERF style 😉 )
Alaina says
Very inspiring Kath! And I like that you said that no one is perfect, but as long as we do our best, that’ll make an impact too. 🙂

Not only are these things good for the earth, most are also good for your wallet!

sarah says
xoxo to you KERF. You make living green look hip.
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
I have a ton of reusable bags, too. I don’t know why I keep buying them. Always seems like a good idea in the moment. lol
Chelsea says
We have been doing some green things, but we really need to step it up. Recently we talked about all the things we should be doing and we are going to be making some changes. We can only do a few things at a time, but maybe by nest year we will be pros!
Amanda (The Nutritionist Reviews) says
This is a great post! Thanks for letting us know how you help the earth.
Ingrid says
Happy Earth Day, Kath!
Quick question, I think I saw something in a previous post about a promotion for the Shaklee products on Earth Day? Something about the membership being waived if we made a purchase on Earth Day? Let me know if this is true, I would love to be a member and make a purchase!
KathEats says
Hey Ingrid!
If you purchase $30 of products you get a free membership (which = 15% off!) I believe through the end of April.
Here’s the link to order the Get Clean line: http://katheats.myshaklee.com/us/en/category.php?main_cat=HomeCare
Ingrid says
Sweet, I’ll do it right now! Thanks so much!!!

marie says
I love those cards your mom sends; I’ve seen a few over the years of reading the blog and they are the cutest. My mom is the nicest, sweetest, but she lacks in originality lol
kaila @ healthy helper! says
I try and do all those green things to! Feels good to be eco-friendly!
Jen @ What's on Jen's Plate? says
I love that you’re using more eco-friendly cleaners! I need to switch over to doing that. We use Mrs. Meyers for table top cleaning. But all of our bathroom and floor cleaners are not. One thing I would love to add to my list one day would be composting and have a garden! I love that you’re doing so much to be green already! 🙂
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
Definitely an awesome effort towards a greener earth! Even the little things can add up to a big impact.
Haha, that’s so cute about the card! 😉
Sarah says
So cute! Where does the name Buzz come from?!
KathEats says
It was her childhood nickname!
Sarah (Running To Slow Things Down) says
Loved hearing about all the ways that you stay GREEN. These are all important steps and reminders that we can take advantage of. I can’t wait to get my garden started as well! 😀
Heather says
Thank you for your reply on the building the breakfast~ do you mind me asking what your base is exactly. Mine never looks like yours! Do you use organic skim milk?
Thanks a abunch!Heather
KathEats says
The whole recipe is on my Tribute To Oatmeal page
Jenn says
I see you drink O.N.E. coconut water. My favorite is the guava coconut 🙂 Excellent source of potassium, as you know. A few times a year, Kroger places them on sale 10 for $10.
You know I’m thinking about going to a body pump class at ACAC. I haven’t really participated in any moderate activity since I was 6 weeks pregnant. It’s weird, because I used to train year round as a triathlete. I feel a class would give me some discipline. I find it hard to motivate myself with a 5 month old…I’m always lacking sleep. I imagine body pump as an aerobic class requiring coordination. I’ll be the girl in the back moving to her own tune ;P
KathEats says
You should try it! It’s very simple
Morgan says
I loved your comment “everyone can do their best.” This is SOO true! I think a lot of people think they can’t live greener becuase they will have to make sacrifices. But the truth is the majority of things that make a big difference are really easy adjusments! (I.E. reusable bags + coffee mugs)
Hannah says
How odd; Earth day in Australia was March 26! I woud’ve thought that Earth Day would be the same across the earth…
J3nn(Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
I loooooce cherry balsamic! So delish.
Cards with cash are so much fun!!
Kiran @ KiranTarun.com says
I must try cherry balsamic. It sure sounds delish! Happy Earth & Easter day 🙂
Khushboo says
Its the small actions that add up to make a big difference 🙂 great going!
Kathleen @ KatsHealthCorner says
I love that quote! We can’t be perefect, but we can do what we can! 😀
Paula says
Your Mom is going to make the best Grandma ever to her human grandchildren. 🙂
Mom says
Thanks!
Allison @ Happy Tales says
SO fun, I got cards from both my mom AND stepdad in the mail yesterday — made me feel so special! Helps ease the pain of not being home at Easter time this year.
Oh, and you and Matt are one of the greenest couples I “know”! I looove it!
