I got my groove back!! No cookies after lunch. Hopefully I’ll make it through the afternoon too!
Sparkling Water
I’m sipping on sparkling water today. I LOVE sparkling water/seltzer but I don’t drink it often for 2 reasons:
1) It’s expensive. Water comes from a faucet and is FREE.
2) Bottled water is horrible for the enviornment and even though I try to reuse my bottles, it takes unnecessary energy to product, transport, distribute, and recycle bottles. For this reason I only drink water from a bottle when I have no other way to drink it. Since I’m headed back to portable campus life, I’ll need to find a good water bottle. I hate Nalgenes (they smell in a week!) but I’m thinking about trying the Sigg brand.
Anyways, seltzer today kept my mouth happy and boredom “hunger” at bay.
Lunch
Kept lunch a little smaller than usual, but this sandwich was quite big. 360 calories alone! 2.25 oz of roasted turkey, 1 slice reduced-fat Kraft sharp cheddar, a squirt of Spectrum Canola mayo (added by the husband because he thought I wanted some!), mustard, pickle, and some romaine, all on Ezekiel bread.
On the side I had a romaine + pom salad drizzled with walnut oil. My pom seeds always sink to the bottom, but I always have 1-2 tbsp in there!
A small side of spaghetti squash (the last of it!) that I had on the side instead of in my salad today.
Apple slices with cinnamon:
All together for 494 kcal:
Walk
Then I got in a nice 40-minute walk in the cold. Scarf and gloves in tact!! I took Eating Well for Optimum Health with me. It’s a wonderful book and when I have a free minute I want to write more about it! ~150 kcal burned.
Tonight
Here’s the menu for our office party tonight (which I coordinated!)
- Adobo Rubbed Filet Mignon with Tomato Chutney
- Grilled Chicken and Peanut Sauce
- Smoked Salmon and Apple Hash Pockets
- Applewood Bacon Wrapped Pork Tenderloin on Corn Bread Disk
- Shrimp Cocktail
- Lobster Lollipop with Citrus Glaze
- Panko Crusted Lump Crab Cakes with Bread n’ Butter Cashew Cream
- Brick Oven Assorted Vegetables with Herb and Truffle Oil Drizzle
- Mud Pie (Bite-size portions)
- Blueberry Buckle (Bite-size portions)
- 2 Hour Well Open Bar (includes beer, wine, well liquor, soda, coffee, tea)
- Beer tours with 3 beer samples per person
Sounds pretty yummy!!
I’m going to have one of everything except the filet (I’m just not much of a steak eater!). Maybe a second lobster and crab cake if they are small. Plus the beer samples. Plus one each of the desserts, assuming they are 1″ sized “bite sized.” (If they’re bigger I’ll have a bite of the husbands).
Sounds like a plan!
I’ll also try to have a good snack so I won’t be starving. Perhaps my LaraBar I’ve been holding onto? Although oatmeal might be in store and would be less kcal…
Have a nice afternoon!

Oooooh grilled chicken with peanut sauce sounds to-die-for. I love peanut sauce beyond reason.
And everything else on that menu sounds delicious! I am also not a big steak eater – but actually, the only kind I'll eat is filet (with bernaise sauce). I only have it once a year, more for cost reasons than for health reasons, and that's for Christmas dinner. 🙂
Have a great time tonight – don't stress too much, you seem to have it under control. Just have fun!

Can I be invited to the part?? That menu sounds delish!

Wow, what an amazingly delicious sounding menu!
I am new to your blog and just had to comment and say how wonderful it is, the other day I browsed through everything for over an hour! Your lovely pictures make it such an easy and entertaining read, and thanks for the wonderful ideas! I love canned pumkin and yogurt but would have never thought to combine the two together 🙂

Thanks Sara! I spend many hungry minutes getting the photos just right before I can eat – I'm glad they're appreciated!

ohmygosh–you're going to have ALL that AND you just ate AND you're thinking about a snack already?!?!? holy crap!
GH says
I was wondering if you have a certain time in the evening when you stop eating food?
Kath says
Sandy –
The party food in the portions I said I'd have (1 of each) by my estimate is around 600 kcal. Lunch was 500. Breakfast was just under 500. That's only 1600 for the day! Add in a 200 kcal snack for 1800.
Remember also that I worked out for over an hour this morning and did 40 minutes of walking at lunch.
It's all fuel!
Kath says
GH,
Nope. We normally finish dinner around 7:30 or 8 and I go to bed at 9. Sometimes I have a dessert around 8:30. I don't like to go to bed on a full stomach, but I have no problem eating something before bed. It's all calories in/calories out!

hey kath!
speaking of the wonderful pictures, what kind of camera do you have? i was also impressed by them 🙂
have fun tonight!

Anne,
I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-W50. Nothing special! It's a great camera though. You just need to know how to use the Macro setting for food photography 🙂

I'm new to your blog, and love it! You're a woman that actually eats (like me!), and is not afraid to show it off! I also work out every day, so eating good sized meals is important to stay fueled. I was a regular to the Eatlikeme blog, but was bugged by how small her meal portions are (although healthy!) every day.
So, keep up the good work, and congrats on the weight loss!

You are such an inspiration! And I'm not just saying it food-wise, (although you do help feed my motivation to eat healthy!) I think your commitment to charity that your husband and you made is so admirable. One day, once I graduate college and meet my soul mate 🙂 I hope to be as much as an all around good person as you are.

I don't get Sandy's comment at all. You are doing exactly what every magazine says to do before a holiday party. Eat a healthy breakfast and lunch and have a healthy snack before you go so you don't arrived famished. Good for you Kath!

Have you tried the stainless steel water bottles . They are great. Safe to use . Water from the tap taste great. Sometimes I put a slice of lemon. I love to read your blog.
You can get the bottles at greenfeet.com

Thanks for the tip Bev! I'll check them out. I think the Sigg ones are aluminum and have the same properties.
