I woke up to this view this morning. Can’t wait till there’s a squirmin’ worm in there!!!
I tested out the nursery bed last night so Matt could get some quality sleep without me tossing and turning. It was kind of bittersweet sleeping separately, but it looks like he got a great rest. Our bed was neatly made when I went in there this morning!
Plus we were only 10 feet away. More great news: with the baby’s white noise machine, I couldn’t hear his shower at all!
The nursery twin bed was comfy and the room very cheerful to wake up in! I got a nice foam mattress topper for this bed and these fun sheets at Target. Also a waterproof mattress pad for nighttime nursing + leaks : )
So did you notice our new rocking chair!? I had a moment of panic when I realized we had no seating in the nursery last week. There’s no space for a big glider, so I started looking for a petite rocking chair. The one I just painted wasn’t the right shade of green (it totally clashed with the walls) so I started browsing Pinterest and then Amazon and found this amazing rocker for $125! Love it and it’s very comfortable! [Bike pillow from Etsy!] I don’t plan for this to be my long-time nursing chair (I realize I need more comfort and will likely be downstairs during the day or reclined in bed at night…we’ll see) but it’s more of a 10 minute resting + rocking chair and a place for visitors to the nursery to sit.
Breakfast this morning was quick cereal with fruit. Barbara’s Shredded Oats with a mix of Cville Cluster, blackberries and a Frog Hollow Farm peach! Another box of peaches arrived on my doorstep, and I couldn’t wait to try them.
Earl Grey! Sad the Olympics are over : (
Friday dannnnnnnnce!

I love the idea of having a bed in the baby’s room – I hope we have space for that one day!
Erica { EricaDHouse.com } says
I never thought about having a bed in the nursery before. It makes total sense, but as someone who is childless (for now!) the thought wouldn’t have crossed my mind!

currently watching a show called “baby’s first day” on TLC..thinking of you!

I have it on in the background while I work!

You have the perfect set-up for comfy newborn tending. Very cozy!
Christine @ BookishlyB says
Are you guys planning on sleeping apart every night when the baby is born, or is it just for the rough nights? A night or two away from my husband every once in awhile is totally fine, but I think many would make me kinda sad…
KathEats says
We don’t know for sure. In the beginning we will probably sleep together, but once he goes back to working full days and I can sleep during the day, I don’t want him to be sleep deprived for months on end. So long as we get quality time before bed, I don’t think it really matters so much where the literal sleeping occurs.
Jill says
I love sleeping in the same bed as my husband, because I love waking up next to him. But we both sleep so much better when one of us takes the guest room. Even when we visit my in-laws lately, we sleep in separate rooms. I have become a blanket-stealing, toss-and-turning monster during my pregnancy, and I go to bed much earlier as well. We do just fine on the “quality time” before bed (or in the afternoon…or the next morning…), and it’s certainly not every night that we spend apart, but it’s crazy how well we both sleep when we each have a huge bed to ourselves.
Megan @ Megan's Munchies says
Love the nursery!! And what a great rocking chair! I bet sleeping in there last night made you even more ready for the sweet baby to arrive 🙂
Marie says
Sleeping apart from the hubs was one of my least fav parts about the first month of parenthood. We took turns and shifts. I missed sleeping next to him very much. But we made it thru. 8 months in and everyone is sleeping great! It will ne nice to have a chair in the nursery.
Carolyn K. says
Oh my…where did you get your beautiful 4-post bed? Probably a bit out of my price range, but a girl can drool/dream :- )
KathEats says
Actually it’s from World Market and we used a 40% off coupon! It’s like the Pottery Barn Farmhouse (out of my price range) but I think with the coupons it was only in the $400-500 range when we bought it 5 years ago!
Carolyn K. says
Oooh….I must now hunt far and wide for this amazing coupon you speak of! Thanks!
Rachel says
Such a cute nursery! I love the color theme you picked out 🙂

So smart to test it out before-hand! Any day now!
The Mrs @ Success Along the Weigh says
*LOVE* the rocking chair! It’s always good to give that room a test run before the real deal! Not long now!

Is the baby going to start sleeping in his crib at night right away? I am pregnant and my baby will sleep in a pack n play in our bedroom for a little while before going to his nursery. I always have these fears he will never end up in his crib because I will want him close all the time 🙂
KathEats says
Rock and play sleeper next to the bed 🙂 but hopefully crib sooner rather than later when feedings space out in time
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
The nursery is adorable! I’m glad you both got some sleep last night. I’m sure you both needed it! Have a great day Kath!

This could totally change when our baby comes but I fully plan on sleeping in the same room as hubby. I know it kind of won’t be fair since he is working full time and I’ll be staying home – but both of us are the parents! With continuing to take care of the house, our 2 dogs, cooking, on top of baby duty it’s not like I will have THAT much time to sleep during the day either. If I know he has a big meeting or something really important the next day I may retreat to the guest room but otherwise I think he should experience the same sleep deprivation that I (no doubt) will!!

I keep almost buying those sheets when I go to Target – I should just do it; they’re so cheery!

hey kath,
since your post this morning reminded me of your interior decorating talents (new career avenue post-baby?) i had quick question — i’m moving into a new apt. and had to buy real adult furniture for first time. i got a dinning room table that i will probably want to keep covered (to protect it when it’s just me) — do you have any recommendations for funky tableclothes or placemats/table runners? i find tablecloths so old fashioned and lame, but hoping there might be a hip solution that would make it look pretty and protected! thanks! PS:hope you are feeling well in last weeks before baby — good luck on the delivery etc.!
KathEats says
Hmmm. I’d try my favorite stores – World Market and Pier 1 first. Crate + Barrel probably has some funky ones. Etsy would be a great place to go too – definitely some funky ones there but they might be more expensive.

Love the green walls in the nursery – I want something similar when I get to babymaking!
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
Love your sheets that you just got…from Target. I want to raid your Target. It gets some fun stuff that I never see! Glad you trialed the nursery (and that Matt got a good night’s sleep) – hopefully you did too!
Ellen @ Wannabe Health Nut says
You are so good at decorating! I love how the baby room is cute, but still refined and doesn’t scream baaaby. He’ll be able to grow into it nicely. Plus, I just love gray! 🙂
Susan says
That nursery bed is a stroke of genius! There may be many, many nights when that will come in very handy. One sleep deprived person is enough; two makes life extremely difficult. Beautiful room!
alli says
i’m not sure if i have ever commented! i love your blog! myself and my almost 2 year old son loves your whipped banana oatmeal.
the pictures of the nursery and your room are so crisp. your house looks lovely! so clean, fresh and pretty 🙂
may i suggest blackout curtains for the nursery. it’ll help when baby is on a predictable sleep schedule. at least it worked for us. the sun doesn’t wake my little guy up and he can get a restful nap during the day in his chilled, dark room. sometimes going 4 hours at a time….and that’s after 12 hours solid at night.
good luck in the coming weeks! i absolutely loved my sons birth and wish i could experience it over and over again. i also loved the early days, too. those first few days are just magical. <3

Thanks for your comment!

Your nursery is so beautiful. That is a great idea to spend a few nights in the nursery before the baby comes- then you will start getting used to sleeping in that room.

Never thought to put a bed in the baby’s room, but now that you’ve mentioned it, it seems like such an obvious idea. Glad the bed’s comfy!

Cute nursery! You might enjoy having a back rest pillow on the bed for nursing! I nurse brantley every morning propped up w/ my backrest pillow from target and the boppy cradling brantley, then we go back to sleep together for an hour or so! My favorite part of the day!
Erin says
Foam ear plugs work wonders. My husband used them during the newborn days and many mornings he had no idea I had even gotten up during the night. 🙂
