After a bit of lounging around, we decided to go see Julie & Julia tonight! We weren’t hungry at all at 6PM (hello heavy afternoon burgers) so we decided to see an earlier showing and have dinner after.
I packed the following snack choices in the event that I got hit with sudden hunger –
I ended up eating half of the ota.bar during the movie – just enough to tide me over but not spoil my appetite!
I LOVED the movie. I thought Meryl Streep did a fabulous job and actually found myself relating more to Julia Child than Julie the blogger. But it was very funny to see a movie perspective of blogging – I totally could relate when her mom would call, and when she got packages from readers, and when Julia criticized her blog and she was analyzing all the reasons why. That’s been me before. Julia Child was so hilarious, and I loved her personality. Just bubbling and enthusiastic about everything, but especially food. She loved to eat, and so do I! My favorite part of the movie, though, were the supportive husbands. You don’t see that much in the media these days. Just 100% normal, loving, supportive husbands. So thankful that I have one!
We came out of the movie craving French food and red wine, obviously, but it was 9:00 and I had beef + eggplant waiting at home, so we compromised by settling for leftovers if we got to open a bottle of red.
But once home the romance wore off and the time set in and we scrapped the wine.
But the leftovers were awesome!
Leftover grass-fed beef with tomatoes and eggplant, with more farmer’s market tomatoes and zucchini boat –
The bread was most definitely the best part. LOVE Flax Oat Bran!
I might go back for a small bite of something sweet to end the night!

NOW are all of the funky characters gone!? I “turned them off” halfway through the last post (which was on my laptop) and so that’s probably why they were showing halfway down).
***
OMG that dumb roach from the last time I came home late was in the doorway again. I swear he’s trying to come inside. I KNEW he was there and walked toward the garage door anyways and he scared me to death. I screamed. Matt was not happy. He finally went into a cabinet 🙁

We sent VeggieGirl‘s family some of Matt’s buns and they were delighted!

Nite!

I can’t wait to see Julia & Julia!! One of my favorite Julia Child quotes:
“Because of media hype and woefully inadequate information, too many people nowadays are deathly afraid of their food, and what does fear of food do to the digestive system” “I, for one, would much rather swoon over a few thin slices of prime beefsteak, or one small serving of chocolate mousse, or a sliver of foie gras than indulge to the full on such nonentities as fat-free gelatin puddings.”
“The pleasures of the table ” that lovely old-fashioned phrase ” depict food as an art form, as a delightful part of civilized life. In spite of food fads, fitness programs, and health concerns, we must never lose sight of a beautifully conceived meal.”
From “The Way To Cook,” written by Julia Child and published in 1989.
Your leftovers look just as good as the night before. I have to try making my eggplant as tender looking as yours! 🙂

I loved the movie too and related more to Julia. I think i couldn’t relate to Julie’s experience with blogging because i don’t have the deadline pressure. But loved the movie none the less 🙂

Good call with the snacks. I always forget to do that and then end up being miserable and very irritable when I get hungry.

i saw “julie and julia” with my husband also and we got a chuckle out of the fight scene – “this better not end up on the blog!” we had that conversation BEFORE i started blogging, thank God…

I think I’m the only one left who hasn’t seen that movie yet!! Not to be a Debbie Downer, but I read Julie ended up having an affair and splitting up with her husband. I do believe she wrote/is writing a book about it? Ahh, if only real life had the happy endings of movies! 😛 In other news, your leftovers look yum! 🙂

I’ve heard different reviews for the Julie and Julia movie. Some people relate more to Julia and some to Julie. I just saw The Time Traveler’s Wife and that movie was really good!

I heard the SAME things about Julie having an affair. That is what her next book is about (and learning to butcher meat). Boo. Loved the movie though. Cooked dinner that night and ate super late since I had a bunch of ideas on what to make after seeing the movie!
Caroline says
I am reading the book right now and can’t wait to see it myself. Those pillows are really stunning by the way!
Jess says
I saw the movie yesterday and loved it, but it is very different from the book. I loved them both in their own ways, which is nice because often the movie versions are disappointing.
MarathonVal says
I LOVED J & J… I think it might truly be my favorite movie of the year. The book was great but nothing mindblowing, but the movie was so likeable and obviously relatable for foodies and food bloggers everywhere!
Meryl Streep should win an Oscar…. she had me cracking up nonstop and when I wasn’t laughing out loud I realized I had a perpetual smile plastered on my face throughout the whole movie, which doesn’t happen much during movies theses days!
Ali says
I loved the movie too! I think Meryl Streep had the voice down, she made an excellent Julia Child. That is SUCH a GOOD point about the supportive husbands! I agree, although hadn’t thought of it until you pointed it out. It is not that common it the media, you are totally right! I am lucky enough to have one too 🙂 (well, a supportive fiance, he is not a husband quite yet).
Jenna says
that flax oat bran bread looks delish!
