It’s been a looooong time since I juiced!
Each week, I put a cucumber, celery, greens and lemon in my cart.
And each week I end up eating them before I can juice them!
I brought my juicer up from the basement in his neat carrying basket. I have a Breville Juice Fountain Plus and love it. Read the story of the acquisition here!
I juiced up:
- 2 carrots
- 5 celeries
- 1 whole cucumber (I always include a cuc because they provide SO MUCH juice for only $1)
- 1 knob of ginger
- Half a lemon
- 2 handfuls baby spinach (which doesn’t juice that great – but it’s all I had)
- 1 apple, cored
I just love that foam!! I’m not sure what the nutritional information is for juicing. My guess is since the juicer extracts everything but the indigestible fiber, the nutrition is pretty much the same as if you ate all those veggies whole – minus the fiber of course.
On the side, a pair of donuty english muffin halves
Topped with mashed banana and Nutty’s Butterscotch (you’ll want to sign up for my newsletter if you’ve been waiting for a Nutty’s sale.. !) plus coconut and chias!
Oh no, I didn’t forget the coffee!! Went back for this mug after I finished my other two components
I’m in the middle of Eat, Pray, Love – pretty sure the theatrical version is 4 hour and 45 minutes! I am LOVING watching it. I have a thing for movies and books that are descriptive. I’ve come to realize that I hate listening/reading and love looking. I prefer description to dialogue; beautiful cinematography to a fast moving plot. Sometimes I like the reading or watching process more than the plot or ending itself. This movie is definitely keeping me entertained visually!
Not sure what’s on my agenda today. I have a ton to do in general – both fun and concentration-centered – but pretty much no deadlines for any of it so there’s no pressure.
Stacy @ Every Little Thing says
I have not gotten into juicing yet but I am enjoying it’s cousin – the smoothie!
polly says
Welcome home, sweet Kath! 🙂
XOXO
I just cut up some “celeries.” 😛
A. says
I haven’t seen the movie, I’m not sure it would maintain my interest since I’m really not a huge fan of Julia Roberts.
The juice looks pretty.
Kath, I have a question about smoothies. I am not a mindful eater/drinker. And I can down a 500 mL homemade smoothie in less than 15 minutes. Tips on how to slow down? Am I the only speed-demon whose mind is a million miles away while she eats?
Kath says
use a spoon
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
That juice looks so pretty! I love orange foods! Have a great day Kath. Enjoy a peaceful Saturday!
Courtney @ the granola chronicles says
Enjoy your days of no deadlines! K
Sarah @ See Sarah Graduate says
I absolutely LOVED the book but haven’t seen the movie yet. I’ve heard it isn’t as good but I definitely still want to see it, that’s for sure.
Kath says
I think it’s just as good!
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
I’ve had a juicer on my wish list for months now! Must buy one 🙂
Emily @ One Sweet Vegan says
I enjoyed Eat Pray Love too. I’ve never juiced anything. I guess it would help if we actually owned a juicer. But, we do drink a LOT of green smoothies. 🙂
Sarah says
I went to see Eat Pray Love in the theater (the cinematography was beautiful on the big screen!) when I was making a career/moving decision and felt like my life was a mess. When she was in Rome, she said that thing about the city being built up around ruins – “Ruin is a gift. Ruin is the road to transformation.” I left the move theater feeling refreshed and like my life was just transforming. 🙂
Mom says
Love that!
Sarah says
Here’s the whole quote!
[Rome] has grown up around [ruins] over the centuries. It feels like a precious wound, a heartbreak you won’t let go of because it hurts too good. We all want things to stay the same. Settle for living in misery because we’re afraid of change, of things crumbling to ruins. Then I looked at around to this place, at the chaos it has endured – the way it has been adapted, burned, pillaged and found a way to build itself back up again. And I was reassured, maybe my life hasn’t been so chaotic, it’s just the world that is, and the real trap is getting attached to any of it. Ruin is a gift. Ruin is the road to transformation.
Heather @ Side of Sneakers says
I was SO disappointed by that movie- I thought it skipped all the good ‘self-revelations’ from the book.
Katie says
Totally agree!
linda says
I recently started using my Vitamix to juice. It works perfectly and I get all the fiber too. The texture is just a bit thicker, more like a smoothie!
Heather says
I got through the first few sections of the book but could not finish it – and I almost NEVER finish a book once I start it.
I haven’t seen the movie but it is on my “want to watch list.”
I have been thinking about using my juicer recently as well – it is such a pain to clean but there is nothing better than fresh juice.
Enjoy your Saturday!
Michelle @ Chasing Ambulances says
What a cute mug! I’m a sucker for pink-anything.
I would rather be entertained visually than have an action-packed plot, but the ultimate for me is a “thinking” movie. A movie or book that says a lot more about life than having plot is golden in my opinion.
Blog is the New Black says
LOVE your mug, and want some juice!
Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) says
Wow, the bright blue backdrop was a much-needed jolt of light and energy on this cold, grey winter morning.
cathyb.@brightbakes says
your juice looks awesome…reminds me I need to get my juicer back in action too!
love,
cathy b.
Gill (snaxandthecity) says
The same thing happens with me and juicing, I must get back into it. Love the foam too, it’s so sweet!
Hope says
Yummy breakfast! I didn’t like Eat Pray Love. I thought the movie was really boring. I’ve never read the book though. So maybe I would think differently if I read the book. 🙂
Amber K says
I couldn’t even finish the book because it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO boring. I have thought about trying the movie, although with that description I’m not sure I could handle it!
Gloria says
I liked the book but far from loved it- the author is so damn self-indulgent. Still, the movie is on my Netflix.
amanda says
My mom has a phd in nutrition and has been teaching and doing research for years. She swears that when you juice fruit your body uses all the nutrients differently then when you eat the fruit and veg whole. But since you eat a VERY well balanced diet it really is fine!!
stacey-healthylife says
I loved that movie. The part when she’s in India I think was a little drawn out.
Kati @ Living Well says
Sometimes english muffins just hit the spot! And I am on a butterscotch kick right now too :>
Jess @ atasteofconfidence says
The book is sooo much better than the movie!
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
The book was definitely visually beautiful. Like most, I enjoyed the book more-but I still liked the movie. Especially the Italy portion. All that food! And then how can you go wrong with Javier?! I mean, come on 😉
Ann @ Day by Day says
I felt the same way about the movie! I didn’t watch it for a long time because I had read the book and people told me I wouldn’t like the movie if I had already read the book. But I really ended up liking it mostly just for the travel and the sights! I love traveling and seeing new places. It really made me want to open up my Italian books and start working on learning it again!
dana @ my little celebration says
Alright, you’ve already reached your veggie intake for the day. I’m cutting you off.
Kara says
Juicing seems so healthy and I bet it’s delicious, but I know I’d never do it just because I wouldn’t want to clean the thing :0
Samantha says
Did you save the fiberous stuff to put in muffins?
Kath says
No I compost it. I’ve made a few pulp recipes and find them to be pretty bland.
Krissy says
I liked the book better, but the movie was good, too =)
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
i have some movies to recommend to you if you haven’t seen them already for their visual storytelling: amelie, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, and any pedro almodovar movie
Kath says
Loved Spotless mind!
Samantha says
Amelie is awesome!
Jess (Sweet Potato) says
I agree, I prefer looking than reading as well. I love movies! Especially movies that have been stylized in a unique way.
megan @ the oatmeal diaries says
This is too funny- I went to Bed Bath & Beyond yesterday to look at that exact juicer! Do you recommend it?! 🙂
Kath says
Absolutely
Haleigh says
I know that juicing has a lot of benefits, but I almost never use my juicer because it is such a hassle to clean afterward. Your juice looks bright+colorful though!
lauren says
Oh, how I yearn for a juicer! I make a lot of smoothies with my blender…but a beet/carrot/ginger smoothie tastes so different than the same combination juiced.
Ashley says
I’m ordering the compact Breville juicer soon and I can’t wait!! Every time you show those english muffins I grow a little more jealous. 😉
Allie says
Mmmmm juice! I want to try those english muffins soo bad!!!
Dynamics says
Just curious why you peeled the cuke?
Kath says
Cause it was one of those thick, oily skinned ones and they gross me out
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
Agreed! I’ll only eat the skin of an English/hothouse cuke. It’s impossible to get the wax off the conventional ones.
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
Pssst – the movie isn’t 4 hrs 45 minutes. We thought the same thing for a moment when the disc arrived. There are two different versions (theatrical and director’s cut) on the disc, and Netflix added the time up and put that as the total running time. It’s about half that. Silly Netflix. 🙂
I’ve never “juiced” before – but I love my Breville espresso machine!
~
Kath says
Ahhhhhhhhhhh!
Amy at TheSceneFromMe says
I am going to look for chia seeds next time I get to Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s. Can’t wait to try them!
Melomeals: Vegan for $3.33 a Day says
that juice looks so good.
chia seeds are one of my fav ingredients!
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Chewy English muffins sound sooo good!
Allison @ Happy Tales says
Sooo happy to see you relaxing and enjoying your Saturday! BTW, I am looking up stats on that juicer you have. I have been really interested in getting one!! Do you cook/bake with the pulp that’s left over?
Kath says
I don’t. I found it to be SO bland!
Natalia - a side of simple says
I have yet to taste a juice! I need to either save up and buy a juicer or scout one out in my area… Have a great day! Hope you enjoy the time to yourself with just you and your projects 🙂
Katherine: Unemployed says
very couture for certain!
Christine (The Raw Project) says
I have the same juicer, not the easiest to clean – but better than most. Your juice looks great. So does breakfast, yum!
Megan says
Loved the book too!
I’m eating some Great harvest bread as I type and it is so delicious! Cinnamon burst swirl is my absolute favorite!
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I’ve never tried juicing before, but I would love to! Great way to get veggies and fruit in for breakfast 🙂
Katie says
I would eat all of them first too! I feel like juicing is such a waste of money because it uses so much produce for such a little glass of juice!
Rachel @ Grateful Girl Goes Gluten Free says
I’ve never juiced, but it looks good!
Mauimandy@The Grains of Paradise says
I need to get back into juicing again! I use to do it every day. I love my Breville Juicer too!!
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
I loved the book, but really didn’t like the movie very much. Although I can see what you mean about the beautiful cinematography. There were a lot of gorgeous shots in the film (especially in Italy…*love*!)
You’ve convinced me, by the way, that I need a juicer in my life. 😀
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
I loved the Eat Pray Love book, but couldn’t make it through the movie. Maybe I already had images of the characters in my mind? The Italy part made me want to pack up and move though!
Curious about the juicer – can you make juice and store it or a couple of days or does it need to be consumed immediately?
Kath says
I’ve always heard to drink it right away – unless you have the special vacuum packer machine that some juice bars do (norwalk?)
lynn says
How do you decide when to remove comments? I’ve noticed that some comments will be there, but before any response could take place, they are removed. Do you decide what stays and goes, or does the blog host do it?
Kath says
I call all the shots. My business, my blog.
My judgement is what rules, but it generally is based upon decorum. Disagree with me/someone else politely – no problem. Have the slightest bit of rudeness – deleted.
Elizabeth @ The Sweet Life says
Great way to start the weekend! Do you mind being home alone or enjoy the quiet time?
Kath says
It’s a little scary, but I love being alone
Marina says
I love juices like that, but I don’t have a juice maker. Maybe I should take it from my grandma….
Jo says
After reading this post and seeing your picture, I had to pick up some celery at the store. I love fresh celery. I have to have some on hand!
Lisa @ Thrive Style says
I take breaks from juicing periodically—love to do it, but sometimes I just need a break…and then when I start again, I remember why it’s so awesome!
Justeen @ Blissful Baking says
Your homemade veggie juice looks great! I bet it’s just packed with vitamins. I really wish I had a juicer!!
Susan Mc says
Awww… reading back to your juicer story reminded me of your old house… I loved your tile backsplash! Also reminded me how long I’ve been reading … and LOVING your blog!
Welcome home, and glad Karen is feeling well!! 🙂
Kiran says
I want these for dinner tonight. Yes, breakfast for dinner, what do ya think? 😉 Enjoy Eat, Pray, Love 🙂
sarah says
I love my juicer- best purchase ever!
Hannah says
It’s not the sale for the butterscotch butter I’m waiting for… it’s for such nut butters to be available to me here in Australia 🙁 Then I’d spend an arm and a leg!
Kat @ Cupcake Kat says
What a yummy sounding juice. I don’t have a juicer so I’ve never made my own juice
Eat, Pray, Love is a great book!
Krissy @ Make It Naked says
Whoa! I JUST unpacked my juicer today! Just got one as a gift and I’m so excited to try it out. I’m going straight OJ in the AM but will try your mix asap! If baby spinach doesn’t juice well any recommendations on greens that do?
Christin@purplebirdblog says
I want a juicer so bad! I still haven’t see Eat, Pray, Love but I’ve heard all good things about it. I just don’t have much time for movies with being in school right now!
Margaret says
I would recommend “The Scent of Green Papaya” not for the story or the dialog, but for the whole “mood” and the photography, it is a French production, it can take you right away from the coldest day and put you in warm steamy Vietnam.
Margaret says
Looooooove my old juicer, next time I would look for one that has dishwasher safe parts,”sip at room temperature” is what I was told by a naturapath.
Jessica says
I’ve been looking at the juicer attachment for my Kitchenaid stand mixer, but I’ve never actually tried any of the veg/fruit mixes before. I need to search out a smoothie and juice place in my area and figure out what I like before making that investment….. the green ones just look so weird, yet tasty at the same time 🙂
Jessica
Fancy says
Cutest post title ever 🙂
Susan E says
Makes me want to pullnout out my juicer my SIL gave to me. It’s just a pain to get all the crevises clean and I even say that after having a dishwasher. There’s a store near me in Haddonfield, NJ called Animo Juice and they make the best juice called “pipe cleaner”.:-) Worth the $6 splurge.
Loved seeing your kitchen photos too. I think i need those open cabinets by the sink for bulk stuff & chuck my HUGE 16 yr old microwave in the basement pantry.
Lisa says
Do you want to come to my house tomorrow morning and make me breakfast? Pretty please??
