^^ Friday afternoon river romp with classmates! Mazen was content sitting on a rock and just taking in nature for a while. <3
On Friday night we chilled out at home. I opened this bottle of Zin from Winc.
We had sausages from JM Stock over spaghetti. (You’ll be seeing spaghetti a lot more because it’s Mazen’s new found second favorite food! Pizza will always come first.) There were mushrooms in the sauce, and we had little kale salads on the side.
We had a super cozy night watching the finale of Stranger Things 2 in bed with hot tea!
Snuggle, snuggle.
This is how mornings usually begin: Coffee and an animal parade! I am totally into bootie slippers this winter and got these at Target. They are currently on clearance!
On Saturday morning Thomas made me a mini omelet with bacon and pear slices. (Lest you think that is the world’s largest slice of bacon, please note this is a tiny plate! Haha!)
We all went to the gym for a good workout before getting the day going. Mazen went home with Matt to spend the afternoon with him, and T and I went home to make turkey wraps for lunch.
I used our bacon press to squash them into the pan.
They were just still a wee bit too full to fully close, but we held them together like tacos and all was well.
It was a big day in our house because of the Duke vs UVA basketball game! I grew up being a Duke fan and could never root against them, but I’ve been cheering for the Hoos since moving to Cville, so it was a tough game to watch! We went to a bar to watch the game with a handful of Thomas’s friends (one of them owns the bar) and we were surrounded by a million college students. It was a fun atmosphere! We couldn’t have asked for a more exciting game.
Back at home I found this kitty in our yard meowing at my feet. I had so much fun playing with her while I waited to see if anyone responded to my neighborhood alert. She had a collar but no tags. Have you ever seen such a fluffy cat?! I gave her water and some fancy smoked trout. She would not come inside and has not been here seen since, so I really hope she got home ok. I am still worried about her, but it’s clear she has a home somewhere around here.
Later that evening I put on my boots and went out with the country girls to Commonwealth for dinner and then to the Cole Swindell concert!
I had the biscuit trio (pimento cheese!) and a delicious bibb lettuce salad at Commonwealth.
I saw Cole Swindell in 2015 and the show was awesome, and this year’s was even better! He has so many great songs, and he played a handful of 90s country covers. Morgan Evans was the opener, and he was HOT as well! It was such a wonderful show.
Sunday was rainy, and we lounged around all day. We had Bodos for brunch, and Thomas made homemade popcorn while we watched Willy Wonka with Mazen! I love that movie.
For dinner we had more pasta – this time Giovanni Rana Cheese Lovers Tortelloni with zucchini and sauce. Yum!
Hope you guys had peaceful weekends! <3

I saw snap chat clips of the Cole Swindell concert and was really upset I didn’t go- the covers he did sounded amazing. What a great game to be torn between but go HOO’S!
The Know Good Beer Fest was at the IX park- I’m surprised you didn’t go! It as a lot of fun and sooo much booze!
KathEats says
Oh yeah – I haven’t been to a festival in ages. You have to see Cole next time!

I think that cat is a “ragdoll”- so cute! check out #ragdollsofinstagram!
KathEats says
OK!

What a fun weekend! I have been loving pasta lately. I generally meal plan 2 or 3 meals with the idea of having leftovers to serve 2 nights (trying sooo hard to stretch a dollar haha) and almost always pick up a tortellini of some kind & sauce for a quick one-pot dinner and have a salad on the side. Always hits the spot! Happy Monday!

Cute cat! Wonder if it was afraud of the dog and that’s why it wouldn’t go inside? It seems like Mazen is with you 95% of the time. Does he spend nights over at Matt’s place as well?
KathEats says
Yes of course. He was there on Saturday night and we split time pretty evenly (I do more weekends, he does more weekdays due to work schedules). (That’s funny you say that because other people have said “It seems like Mazen is never with you” 🙂 )

I grew up in Va and we’re all huge UVa fans . . . I thought about you during that game and wondered who you’d pull for . . .that Grayson Allen. Geez – you can always count on him to be the poster kid for how NOT to behave .
KathEats says
Haha, yes, he’s not my favorite guy. I think my rankings of who I root for if they were playing each other would go Duke –> Davidson –> UVA –> (1000 other teams) –> UNC at the very bottom. 🙂
Allison says
Yes! As with any respectable UVa fan, I was taught early on that Carolina is THE WORST.
KathEats says
Hahaha. The NC State v UNC game was on at the bar before UVA came on, and all the students were cheering for State! I was very happy in their company.
Kelly says
I went to NC State and my ranking list is similar – NC State (of course), then all ACC teams and all other NC teams (excluding UNC) then all other teams in the country and the world, then UNC 🙂
I thought about you too in the Duke / UVA game – it was a good one.
KathEats says
Hahaha!!

We tried Stranger Things and got through two episodes before we decided it was too dumb for us. Sci-fi is not our thing. 🙂 Now we’re watching House of Cards…good but the language is sooo foul….
KathEats says
Haha!!

Kath –
Is that an ipad cover? What beautiful colors – do you mind sharing where you got it from?
Thank you.
KathEats says
It’s a Kindle Cover! I love it!

Love your weekend recaps 🙂
That tortellini looks DELISH. Have a great week, Kath!
KathEats says
Thank you – you too!

Eggs are the simplest things ever but every time I see YOU make it, it looks SO MUCH TASTIER. Now I’m craving eggs.

I did some river-rock sitting this weekend too! It’s been way to long since I’ve gotten out on a trail, and spending time out in the fresh woodsy air is so therapeutic (on a sunny day 😉 ). It’s very cool that Mazen also found peace sitting sitting by the water. How mature!
P.S. That biscuit trio ~spoke to me~ :p
Kelly says
Wow! That is some kinda cat! LOL!
Cathy says
Hi. Kath can you suggest cookware? I have copper chef but need smaller saucepan. Stainless steel requires rigorous cleaning. Hard anodized? Brand ?
Thanks. Hope you can help. Have you replaced yours?
KathEats says
We just got two new pieces of cookware as wedding gifts – this Calphalon pot (which comes in smaller sizes) and this All Clad frying pan. They are both amazing nonstick and we love them!
Cathy says
Thank you. I will definitely order the saucepan. Appreciate your reply.
KathEats says
It’s that really good kind of nonstick that nothing sticks to! (Unlike the bad kind that is still sometimes hard to clean)
Katie says
Sounds like you all had a great weekend! I love just sitting in nature and soaking it all in!
Cathy says
I ordered it from bb&b. 🙂
KathEats says
Great!!

The title of your post brought back the lyrics and memory of an old song from my childhood days at summer camp! Love it! I had completely forgotten about that song!

Yes!
