Da da da dum dum dum dee dee
Lots of training, lots of test baking goin’ on!!
I had half a muffin for a mid-morning snack. With all the adrenaline going on, I’m hungrier! Or maybe just the tempting muffins were calling me.
I biked in today with no problems!! WOOOO!!! <3 my bike. Once I arrived I had to zip back up to the City Revenue Office for some sales tax paperwork.
Life lesson: small towns rule. Had I had to do that in Charlotte I probably still would be in some waiting room. Today I walked in, spoke directly with the Commissioner of the Revenue himself and was hand-given everything I needed. <3 you Cville!
We’ve been running around the store doing this and that at high speed. Time is crunching!!
Janet brought in some snacks for employee nibbling. Lots of owner nibbling too! These Oat Bran stix were good!
Just broke for a quick lunch before the all-afternoon customer service training starts. Wheeee!
I brought in a salad from the garden today to balance in all the meals out this week.
Greens, carrots, radishes, green pepper, honey, olive oil, avocado, and leftover relleno pepper!!
Even better as leftovers!
I’m sure I’ll nibble on a cookie after this for a palate cleansing dessert
2 days till fresh hot bread!!
Natalia - a side of simple says
Can’t believe you’re opening SO soon! I mean…you’re actually training YOUR employees!!
Emily @ One Sweet Vegan says
Your salad looks wonderful!!
Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday says
I buy those sesame sticks from the Bulk Barn all the time. I didn’t realize they were made with oat bran! Score!
Also, on a scale of 1-10 how excited are you for the big opening? I’m excited and I don’t live anywhere near Charlottesville!
Amanda- The Nutritionist Reviews says
I love those oat bran sticks! So tasty.
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
mmmmm your salad looks great! Have a great day baking away.
YAH for hot bread 🙂
SquatLikeALady says
It must be soooo surreal to be training your own employees!!
Your salad looks awesome 😀
Chloe (South Beach Girl) says
TWO DAYS!!!! Woo-hoo! I wish I was in Cville for the opening, I’d love to try some fresh bread and also rub elbows with a few of my favorite bloggers 🙂
Karen says
Glorious fresh from the oven muffins photo!
As Samantha expressed above, I too can hardly contain my excitement…wish I could join you!
Have fun!
Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food says
Just so you know, I would be happy to taste test all of that for you 😉
Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) says
“spoke directly with the Commissioner of the Revenue himself and was hand-given everything I needed.”–
THAT right there is 100% why small towns do rock. Things like that are a bureaucratic nightmare in most any situation or town…and the bigger the city, the worst it usually is.
Love that you have the personal connection and small town service thing going on!
And those oat bran sticks…I used to go to town on O.B.Sticks. I think I need those again! 🙂
Mary Frances says
Kath, Maybe when things settle down a little bit, you can write a note to the Commissioner’s superior… it might go a long way for him to have in his personnel file if he is looking at a promotion sometime in the future. People are always quick to complain, but it sure is nice to send Kudos now and again! 🙂
Katherina @ Zephyr Runs says
That’s really awesome advice – I love to leave positive feedback when I have a pleasant experience!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Oooh the muffins look divine! Speaking of honey, Kashi Heart to Heart in the Oats n Honey flavour was part of my breakfast today and it is Oh.So.Good!! Good luck with the customer service training!
Angela (The Lady Eats) says

Oh my gosh. It truly is a real bakery. I remember when I saw you for the first time, I thought–wow, there really was a baby in there.
And now muffins!!!!!!!!!!! A bakery for sure! And beautiful bread.
Johanna B says
Congratulations for growing someone truly wonderful. She turned out pretty good – doncha think.
Mom says
Yep, and I just got home from buying her a small in size but high quality present in honor of the opening! Matt too. His is liquid; Kath’s is not.

Susan (Oliepants) says
I’m so excited about your store opening!! And right now – just as excited about the salad. I love the use of the leftovers in the salad!
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
OooOo can’t wait till it opens! I’ll live through it vicariously and reading your blog 😛
Halley (Blunder Construction) says
The muffins look fabulous! Are you considering mini-muffins? It’s more work, but sometimes one muffin is a bit much for one sitting, and I’d rather try a few different flavors that settle on one.
KathEats says
Mini muffins would rock, but we don’t have the commercial pans
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
It is ALL about the honey. Honey Whole Wheat, that is! 😉
Just finished my sharp white cheddar and jam sandwich on GH honey whole wheat. Love, love.

Hope says
Those oat bran sticks look good! Oh, and that honey wheat bread looks fluffy and heavenly! Yay for 2 days!

So close to opening! Excited for you guys!

Katherine says
O that salad type thing is GORGEOUS!
O, and BTW I am leaving for Guatemala in 13 hours, so I won’t be commenting on your blog for a good 10 days. Sorry to leave you, but I will have a massive post when I get back 🙂

Elizabeth@The Sweet Life says
I’m so excited for you guys!
Kiran @ KiranTarun.com says
Time flies! 2 more days to opening!! I am so excited 😀
Pat says
Are all your breads shaped like, well, regular loaves? The GH in Anchorage (AK) does all its breads as round loaves… just wondering if the shape is a local choice. It’s really fun following all that goes into the business. I’m excited for you!
KathEats says
Everything is up to us!!
We are going to do maybe 70% rounds, 30% toasters.
Selena says
Ours does mostly round too but I like the toasters. Is there a benefit to the round ones? I find them harder to cut into a reasonable (and equitible…which is important with 3 little girls) size/shape. Maybe I’m just uneducated on how to cut it…
Rachel @ Grateful Girl Goes Gluten Free says
That relleno pepper YUM! I’m definitely putting your store on my to do list when I go down south this summer!
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
I’d much rather live in a small town like Charlottsville over an big city. It’s so cute and you still have everything within biking distance!
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I can’t wait to hear all about opening day on Friday 🙂
Angel7 says
Great looking salad! You always add a touch of color to brighten it 🙂
Get the dough rolling 🙂

Cait's Plate says
Oh my gosh I want to dive head first into that fresh loaf of bread. It looks SO delicious – as do those muffins.
Liv @ The Salty n' Sweet says
Oh all of your pictures of breads and muffins are leaving me with a drool trail…
It’s great that you’re making room for fresh greens in your diet! I’d need a whole lot of lettuce to offset how much bread I’d be eating if I worked at GH 😉
staceyhealthylife says
Good luck with all the training.
Alexa @ Simple Eats says
You guys must be so excited! I would be nibbling treats all day, too!
kaila @ healthy helper! says
Wow that pepper looks delish! But what exactly is in it!?! Well whatever it is it looks amazing!

Natalie says
Can’t wait to see the pics from the opening, wish I could visit the bakery in person! I haven’t been keeping up with my fave blogs over the past few months, have you done a post on the full story of the bakery? I always love reading how people put their dreams into action and get things done from beginning to end (or in this case, opening day!)
KathEats says
I’ve talked about it – if you search for the tag “Greatharvest” you’ll find all of our bakery related posts!
Natalie says
Ah, didn’t even think to check the tags, duh! Haha Thank you! 🙂
Miranda @ Working Mom Works Out says
I love that small town lifestyle.
Salad looks amazing!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I can practically feel your adrenaline in this post!
Kaitlyn @ 7 Plates says
I wish I could bike around my town, but even if I could.. it was almost 90 degrees this morning at 9:00…. seriously. :/
Khushboo says
Wow I feel like we’ve all opened GH with you (sans the hard work of course)! I know I say it every day but you and Matt are doing a fabulous job and even though I don’t ‘know’ you guys, I am extremely proud of the 2 of u!
Logan says
Me too!
Jenny says
Kath, Please do a post on gardening!!!!!
Molly @ RDexposed says
Where do you find oat bran sticks?
KathEats says
No idea, I didn’t buy them
Katherina @ Zephyr Runs says
If you don’t mind my asking, what kind of bike do you have? I’m on the bike market since my cruiser makes it feel like I’m riding through molasses.
Emily says
So exciting! I would love to open my own bakery/restaurant someday.
Katie Perkins says
Do you have bike racks at the store? As a fellow cyclists (we sold both our cars and only use our legs or bikes to get around!), I find that so many places claim to promote healthy living but then forget bike racks and only have a parking lot. As you know, biking is a MUCH healthier living option for both the individual and the environment.
KathEats says
We have asked our landlords for bike racks, as we would love to use them ourselves!
