The show was great! I’m not sure it was worth spending 4x the tickets for all 4 of us to go, but Birch loved it, and the music was great!
Mazen had President’s Day off of school but Birch did not, so we dropped Birch to school and went skiiing (we didn’t make a big deal about where we were going – he’s going to start skiing next year!) (Here are our previous Wintergreen posts!) Check out the video of our trip here!
Amazing Market sandwiches for lunch!

It was 60 degrees after lunch and we were sweating so hard! I shed my gloves and coat and skiied in just a fleece.
And don’t be fooled at the “Experts Only” sign – I go VERY VERY slowly down the mediums with a wedge the whole time 😉 Mazen skiied down his first black diamond!

My friend Norkeita and I met for lunch at the new grilled cheese shop on the downtown mall called Ooey Gooey Crispy! It’s located at the Whiskey Jar end of the mall in the new renovated/built Code building area. Farmacy Cafe is next door – another amazing lunch spot! Both of these new restaurants have super delicious, creative food but not much seating. You’ll want to dine outside, take it to go, or eat in the building across the way that has open communal space (that’s what we did on the freezing cold day).
Norkeita is the boss of Caked Up Cville that I always rave about! She makes party cakes, cake tins, cupcakes and more!
I was pleasantly surprised that Ooey Gooey had big craft salads in addition to its ooey gooey grilled cheeses. Two soups too!
We each had a salad, and we LOVED them. Mine had brie, roasted celery roots, currants, and candied hazelnuts in a sherry dressing. Norkeita’s had blue cheese, candied walnuts, farro, roasted squash, endive and dates. REALLY GOOD SALADS!!
Plus this grilled cheese that was everything I’d hoped it would be: That Rich ‘Wich had brie, truffle butter and crushed potato chips.
I’m so glad the Downtown Mall has some great new lunch spots! More to come too!

Such fun pics! What is your go-to green smoothie recipe? Thanks!
Kath Younger says
Usually it’s a combo of frozen banana, whole milk, peanut butter, vanilla protein, and baby spinach!
This is also one I make a lot.

I’m curious about the communal space where you ate. Is it truly open to the public or do you have to be a customer at one of the restaurants? I’m asking because the lack of public seating on the downtown mall really bothers me. Sometimes people just need to sit down, and most of the seating is owned by restaurants. 🙁
Kath Younger says
It’s in the new Code building where Milli Second coffee is. I wouldn’t have even known to go in there except I asked Ooey Gooey about any nearby seating and they told me it was space that their customers could use.
