Short and stout, for sure. I’m only 5’2”. And I’d like to think I’m a delicious imperial stout!
Good morning Scottish oats with cottage cheese!!
Double delicious
The Mix
- 1/4 cup Scottish oats (ground steel cut)
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- Half banana
- Pinch salt
- 1/4 cup cottage cheese [low-fat, organic] stirred in at end
- Topped with GH jam, ground flax, peanuts and Maranatha AB
Half a cup of coffee – plus I had a mug of decaf tea. Still doesn’t make me feel quite as full!
Busy, busy day ahead! But the high is 75*!!!
Grace says
I’m 5’1.5 so I can totally relate to the song haha!
Yummy oatmeal breakfast 😀 thank you for sharing
Stacey (The Home-Cooked Vegan) says
Hah! That’s funny because I had my first bowl of oats this morning for the first time in forever, and on my fourth bite I was thinking “Ugh, this stuff is so filling!” But I like to snack throughout the day too 🙂
Woo hoo for pretty weather! It’s the same here! Perfect day for a run!
That GH jam looks so yummy! Have a good day, Kath! 🙂
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
You know, at 5’10, I never really could relate to that song 🙂 Looks like a great breakfast! Love the linens, as per usual.
Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday says
oooh, nice and warm there. We’re supposed to hit 11*C today…hopefully it gets sunnier.
Jennifer (She's a Fit Chick) says
5’2?! I wish I was your size! I am 5’10 (almost 5’11) and I have always wished I was shorter so I could rock high-heels more!
Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday says
You can totally rock heels! You’d definitely stand out in a crowd, and I’m sure you’d be a knockout 😀
Freya (Brit Chick Runs) says
YES I’m 5ft9 and never wear heels cos I’d be 6ft something in them! I feel your pain lol!
Jil @ Big City, Lil Kitchen says
Amen to that!
Jazz says
Meh, I’m 5’9″ and recently decided I don’t care how tall I am in heels!
B & B says
I’d love to be tall! I wish – only 5’2. When we used to go out to clubs, my friend who’s like 5’10 used to get hit on all the time – one guy came up to her and told her she was “the perfect height”….
I secretly hated her and hoped the guy was drunk.
😉 (Kidding! y’know…)
Kristi @ KristiAteIt says
Oh what I would do for that temparature today. It’s rainy/cloudy and only 40 degrees here. Ugh!
and what I would do for a bowl of oats like that 🙂 I’m always rushing out the door in the morning….
Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin says
I had no idea you were just 5’2!!
megan says
Still have time to check out my giveaway! I bet you’d give it your RD stamp of approval 🙂
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
My niece sings the teapot song but doesn’t know all of the words, so she replaces any word that she doesn’t know with “teapot” — I’m a little teapot short and teapot. Here is my teapot here is my teapot. It is hilarious.
Mom says
Cute!
Freya (Brit Chick Runs) says
Would you rather be 5ft2 or grow 7inches and be my height at 5ft9!? I think your height is cute 🙂
Khushboo says
Cheesecake oatmeal for breakfast- I like yo style!
Stacey says
Cute linens, I used to sing that song as a achild allll the time, but who didnt i guess. I am taller and sometime wonder what it would be like to be a shorty. I have not tried the cottage cheese stirred in but i think i need too.
Errign says
Does the cottage cheese dissolve into the oats & does it make the oats taste sort of cheesy, or no?
KathEats says
Both!
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
I had no idea you were 5’2″! I guess it isn’t obvious in pictures. 😉
Lovely breakfast and enjoy the beautiful weather!
Christine says
Oh I can’t be an imperial stout. Too much booze. I’d rather just be a stout. Or a porter. I’d rather be a porter.
KathEats says
But that’s where all the flavor is!
Christine says
I know! I guess I just need a permanent “beer sharer” like you have…..then I can be an imperial. = P
Sounds fancy to be “imperial” — I want a robe and throne!
Angela (Oh She Glows) says
75 degrees! send some up North please!! 🙂
KathEats says
come south to visit!
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
I want to try the cottage cheese in my Scottish oats but worry that the flavor will be overpowering. I might try some Greek yogurt instead. A very international breakfast!
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
Enjoy the beautiful weather 🙂
Laughter-Loving Stacy says
I hope it’s warm today! It’s my birthday, so hopefully mother nature will grant me a windless, bright blue/sunny warm-ish day! 🙂
Also for my 23rd b-day, I will be making the most delicious oatmeal ever. *Hopefully*
KathEats says
Happy Birthday!
Amy says
The high is 75 today? Totally did not know that. Thanks for being my meteorologist, Kath! 🙂
Lucy @ The Sweet Touch says
I am just starting to get into the coffee scene and I noticed it does seem to fill me up, is it just because of the fact that I am drinking more liquid or do you think there is something specifically about coffee that fills you up?
KathEats says
Apparently it has soluble fiber in it – I think that’s what it is!
Angel7 says
I really like cottage cheese!
YAY!!!… The temperature is hopefully on its way up, and will stay there!

Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Oh my gosh you’re 5’2″???? I thought you were SO much taller than that! Not that it’s a bad thing at all – I’m just shocked!! I’m 5’10″… so not so short!
Hannah @ Healthy Whip says
I would never think to put cottage cheese in oatmeal! Not sure if I’d like it or not!!
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says

lynn @ the actor's diet says
i tried the scottish oats this morning!!! am very curious to see if they hold my appetite as long as regular steel cut ones!
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
Have you ever made overnight oats with steel cut or Scottish oats? I can’t decide what to do with mine- it’s too warm for hot oats here 🙂
KathEats says
I don’t think they’d absorb enough – although the Scottish might!
Shannon @ My Place In The Race says
I’m so glad the weather is getting better. It’s awesome to be back outside again 🙂
Oats look yummy!
Tina says
Oh what I’d do for a high of 75…it won’t stop snowing every now and then here!
Rachel @ The Avid Appetite says
How does the cottage cheese work in the oats? Do you taste it? Or does it make it creamier? Just curious…I’m not a cottage cheese-eater, but I’d try it if it is really great in oats!
KathEats says
Yes you taste it. It’s cheesy like a cheese danish. It is also creamier.
Namaste Gurl says
I think our 80 degree weather down here in the west shifted east- darn! 🙁
Hope says
Scottish oats look delicious! They look thick and creamy! I wish it was going to be in the 70’s here. I’m still wearing my winter coat in April! 🙁
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I love your pictures- you capture those oatmeal bowls perfectly!
Emily says
Hi Kath,
I was just looking (lol more like lurking) through some of your old posts, and I noticed that you seem to have really developed a healthy attitude towards food and exercise- not that you didn’t before, but there were a lot more posts saying things “I really overdid it, food-wise” or calorie-counting, or worries of weight gain, for example. I really applaud you for overcoming that kind of thinking (which I think almost all women have, or have had). I am curious though: has your weight changed since adopting this kind of thinking? Do you ever worry about over-doing it, calorie-wise, and just not mention it too much on the blog? How do you deal with weight fluctuations? I am trying to develop a healthier attitude, but the fear of weight gain is really affecting me, so I am just curious of your response.
Thanks! (and sorry this was so long…)
KathEats says
Hey Emily,
Your observation is true. I think the way I viewed overeating was result of having been overweight and having gone through a weight loss mindset for 2 years. The maintenance mindset is much easier on the brain. My weight has indeed fluctuated since entering maintenance, although I no longer weigh myself. I think I’m probably about 5 pounds heavier than I was at the end of my weight loss, but I am loving where I am with my eating these days, so I’m not sure I’d trade 5 pounds to have to give up matt’s beer or Great Harvest bread. I actually have lost weight at times, although it’s much more gradual and just a result of cutting back on portions, snacks and desserts. I think in maintenance it’s harder to catch a climbing weight when you don’t worry as much about what you’re eating, but then again, it’s not that hard for the weight to come back off with some small adjustments.
cathyb@brightbakes says
hi kath! I was excited to see your reply to this, because it’s something I’ve been thinking/wondering about as well. I’m at a (very) healthy weight, run and strength train several times a week, and lead a very active life. Since I quit weighing myself, (partly due to inspiration from your blog!) and keeping a general calorie tally in my head versus an exact calorie count in a journal, I sometimes struggle with the fact that I may or may not be a few pounds (5 maybe) more than before. I love hearing tips/thoughts on what you do to maintain a healthy perspective.
Thanks for all your hard work,
cathy b.
Maria says
For some reason, I would have thought you were taller. Those oats look great 🙂
Natalia - a side of simple says
5 foot represent! Although, I may have lied on my license and given myself an extra inch… you know, just in case I grow or anything 🙂
Ashley says
PreTTy colors today!! I love cottage cheese + oats, but for some reason not together. Maybe I need to try again to be sure…when my kitchen is back that is. 🙂

OK Kath, per your advice I went and bought sardines, but my family is cracking up because they say there is NO WAY I will eat this stuff because when I open that can I will have a bunch of eyes staring back at me. Are sardines really…whole and everything. Does that gross you out or freak you out. I am so scared to open that can. LOL
KathEats says
They should not have heads or eyes!!!
Tara @ Padded Tush Stats says
Whew! 😉

I am 5’2” too! and some days I hate but most days I LOVE it! getting called “baby Hands” and “baby feet” is kinda fun!
Laura says
Kath, how do you get your oats so voluminous? I use 1/2 cup rolled oats and they don’t come out looking like that!
KathEats says
Well these are Scottish and that bowl isn’t huge. Do you add banana? That adds volume. Also I’m using 1:3 oats to water
Abby says
Love the song! 🙂
Kat @ Cupcake Kat says
Your oatmeal looks extra delicious with that cute tea towel.
How long does ittake to cook Scottish oats? Do you just make them by grinding up steel cut oats a little?
KathEats says
Only like 5 minutes. I grind them in my Vita-mix but it works in a Cuisinart too
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
I’m a little teapot, too!! 😀 I’m short and stout.. but not the beer, lol. I’m fun size!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
You’ve got me beat – I’m only 5’0! I like to think of myself as more of a munchkin than a teapot though. 😉
Lolly says
Why not brew your coffee with half car/half decaf grounds so you can enjoy a full cup? Or is caffeine not the issue?
KathEats says
I just don’t really love decaf coffee – and it’s more complicated
