Karen and I ventured to IKEA today. To pick up baby things, bakery things and Karen’s house things! A multi-purpose trip for sure!
I was shopping for a Hemnes dresser. I reallllly wanted this one, but I decided it was just a little too big for our little nursery. So I settled on the 3 drawer instead.
But I’m so excited that the drawers are already lined – with white + yellow!!!
Kitchenland!! Drool.
Our little guy will have to have one of these someday 🙂
Babyland was not quite as fun as I’d hoped. Most IKEA things are neutral and modern, but it seemed like all the baby + kid stuff was wild and didn’t feel as well made. LOVED those big carrot pillows you see in that bin though! I didn’t buy one because I got a mini soft vegetable set instead : )
Karen and I took forever to get through the store, and then add warehouse shopping on top of that. Plus truck loading. The dresser was SO heavy! We were exhausted by the time we pulled away, but thankfully we had ice creams to keep our spirits up.
Because then we hit rush hour. Bummmmmer. I never think to leave earlier in the morning – I figured we’d be out by 3-4!
Snacks for the road –
And finally, upon returning home, our man was waiting for us with homemade split pea soup! Instead of bacon he used the leftover Easter ham, and I topped mine off with greek yogurt and a hunk of Cville Crunch.
Cannot wait to get cozy in bed. All of those IKEA beds made me miss my own!

I always thought it would be fun to be one of the people that works at IKEA and gets to design all of the spaces! 🙂
Allie@LiveLaughEat says
IKEA veggie pillows are the cutest. I may have some mouse spoons from the kids section that I use daily…
Sana says
I love the idea of Ikea, but it really is a pain getting everything and putting it all together.
Amelia says
Lucy has those stuffed carrots & broccoli toys! She doesn’t really care about them but I for one love them 🙂
p.s. the curtains in her nursery are made from the same white & yellow striped print as on the inside of your new dresser – so cute & versatile.

I’ve never been to IKEA, our closest one is at least 75 miles away. Probably for the best! I’d buy the whole place and I hear it’s huuuuge, haha.
Split pea soup with ham sounds so good! Haven’t had it in ages but it is yummy.
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
What a fun trip! I’ve always loved that dresser!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
That first dresser you looked at is the one I have!!! Haha and yes, it’s pretty big, but I needed big! Glad you had a good trip, and some ice cream!

I hope you found lots of awesome Ikea stuff!

IKEA sells kitchen set for kids? I would love to have one of those when I was a kid. I’m sure it could have helped me to have a better appreciation for cooking.
Maria says
I really like that dresser! I never thought to go to Ikea for baby stuff, thanks for the idea!

I LOVE IKEA kitchens!! Glad you got some good stuff – there’s nothing like a successful furniture trip 🙂

Both of my boys have the Hemnes dresser in their room. Great dresser!! Just a suggestion… when your little guy is mobile be sure to use the provided strap to secure the dresser upright. We learned our lesson the hard way… during naptime my son decided to make a bed in the bottom drawer and when he climbed in the dresser fell over on him. I’ve never run upstairs so fast in my life. Anyways, he was fine but a scary situation that we could have prevented. Love following your baby adventures!!
KathEats says
Yikes! Glad he was OK!
Luv What You Do says
I have that dresser and love it!
A friend of mine just started using hers as a TV stand and it looks great!

We have the big Hemnes bureau too. I think you will really like that line – the drawers roll nicely. We have the nightstands too, but I guess your baby doesn’t need one of those!
Anita says
I own that dresser! It’s held up well and I really love the white and yellow lining, too 🙂
Hillary says
That’s my favorite dresser at IKEA (and yes, I have a favorite dresser at IKEA. I know this is bizarre)!
Jen says
I never used to care about decorating or furniture – until I discovered IKEA. It’s amazing how how just ‘an hour’ can turn into 3 or 4 just to get around the place!
Chelsea @ Designs on Dinner says
Ikea is a wonderland. The first time I went there, I was in awe that I got to ride an escalator next to another escalator with my cart. Glad you found some good stuff!

3 drawer hemmed for the win! It’s a good size for three drawers and I think plenty of space for baby. Onesies fold up reaaaaly tiny. I got 2 packages of the coordinating drawer organizers and it has set up nicely. We will see what I think once the baby gets here.
natasha says
We made a kithchen set for our toddler out of a nightstand off the side of the road, using eamples on pinterest. Matt could do for sure. Cost next to nothing and adorable.
Mom says
Cool idea!

Examples, oops!

I have that dresser for my son! I love it!

We got the Hemnes line for our daughter’s room when she went from nursery to big girl bedroom about age 3. It’s been soooo functional. We got the dresser/cubes, armoir and bed. Could not be more happy with it, especially for the price! We got it in white.

I was thinking I wouldn’t mind an IKEA dresser for my baby’s room… but I’ve never seen them in person. We don’t have an IKEA here in Vegas! I think the closest one to me is in LA. I’m jealous.
I also think it’s great you have such a nice relationship with your mother-in-law. I can’t imagine going on a shopping road trip with mine!

Those kitchens are amazing–dream kitchens!
Our 3 year-old daughter would love that lil’ kitchen set.

we have that larger dresser but in a different color! glad you both had a fun shopping trip! mmm LOVE split pea soup!

We bought that same 3-drawer dresser for our son’s nursery (he’s almost one). It’s awesome, but just a heads up that we always make sure we are nearby when he’s exploring the dresser for two reasons: 1) as someone else said, it can tip over if it’s not secured and ours isn’t yet, and b) the drawers are very heavy and roll shut easily. You have to make sure that tiny baby fingers don’t get caught.
We put a changing pad on top of it instead of getting a changing table and it worked well for us until our son reached about 10 months, at which point we moved the changing pad to the ground because he kept trying to escape. 🙂
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
IKEA is very good at sucking away your day. Even if you’re having fun in the process.
Kelley says
Can’t believe how empty your Ikea was! Mine is usually PACKED with people no matter when you go! That’s a huge plus to not have to deal with the crowds! Ikea definitely makes you earn the ice cream at the end with their maze of a store. =) Can’t wait to see the dresser in the baby’s room!

I never go on the weekends if I can help it!

everything in IKEA looks gorgeous and precious!! 🙂 And that kitchen….seriously, drool-worthy~haha. It really sounds fun shopping for a baby 😀
Juli says
Hey Kath,
do you really show everything throughout the day on your blog? Considering that you are pregnant it seems very little…
KathEats says
No, not everything. But all significant things. I didn’t go hungry at all yesterday (meaning I always had snacks at my fingertips). Some things.. Like that split pea soup dinner…. Are much more energy dense than they might appear.
jojo says
I love the little kitchen!!!
He will definitely be a great cook.. 🙂

I have that massive dresser and it hasn’t lasted as long as I’d hoped. I’m just about to replace it with a solid one. It is beautiful though! I also loved the carrot and broccoli plushies in IKEA.
Quick question: why is your blog listed on “best vegan blogs” when you don’t appear to be vegan?
KathEats says
I have no idea. I didn’t put it there! Maybe because some of my recipes are vegan?
Maria@ Sinfully Nutritious says
I love IKEA. Every time I go in there, I cannot help but want to re-do every room in my house that is not already ikea-fied. We did our whole kitchen through IKEA last year, it is gorgeous and super functional, although, it took forever to design. If anyone thinks the warehouse is complicated, try the kitchen design! But, it is absolutely stunning. No one who comes to our house can believe it is Ikea, they think it’s a uber expensive kitchen. I even got my recycled quartz counter through them.
I <3 IKEA.
Emily @ Life on Food says
I always get lost in IKEA. Takes me hours to find my way out. I love that dresser!
Cheryl @ Happy is the new healthy says
I love IKEA. Mostly because I plan out my entire future, not just my house, after going ;)!
I think having someone cook for you is amazing. And if it’s soup, it’s like pure love. Yum!
Hayley @ Oat Couture says
Ahh I used to have all the hemnes drawers and mirror in my bedroom… I had them in the dark brown colour though! 🙂 Loved them, was gutted when I moved and had to sell them on. Fantastically sturdy for IKEA stuff!

So glad Baby is going to get a kitchen! I will buy the pots and pans and dishes.

Love walking through Ikea…lots of great ideas and fun stuff! It really is a days adventure! Bringing snacks along is always such a great idea and how perfect to come home to a warm bowl of soup…I made homemade chicken soup yesterday as my son was not well and it is what my kids crave when they are under the weather.

the dresser is so pretty! We just went to Ikea this weekend – first time in years! It’s fun (and overwhelming) to walk through – looks like you found some great things!

When I read your dispatch from the road yesterday, I just knew Karen was truckin’ you all to Ikea! I Love that store…hate that store 🙂
~Christy @ wonderofallthings says
IKEA is great. The best kids stuff seems much more suited to toddler bed age — my nieces and nephew have had toddler beds and bedding from there that are fun and functional. How nice to come home to dinner made. 🙂
Meg says
Hey Kath! I love your snacks you pack and bring with you. What do you carry everything in? I used to do a huge purse but my back hated me for it. Do you carry a mini cooler with you, or all in one purse?
I also love Ikea…but that’s a whole other comment lol
Meg
KathEats says
Just my purse!! I took the snacks out while I shopped so it would be lighter
Nicole @ Yuppie Yogini says
I can’t leave IKEA without getting ice cream!
