Dad and I were up exercising at 7 this morning. He was out reading + walking and I went on my 4 mile route. It was hot hot hot, but not too hot to enjoy a little AM movement.
Back at home, Mom and I had yogurt bowls and I made some french press coffee
French press because when I opened my coffeemaker I saw a huge pile of old grounds and MOLD that I apparently had forgotten about last week!!!!!!!!!!!! Gross!!! I cleaned them out and then ran a vinegar cycle. And made french press coffee in the meantime!
Poured over ice! Love the slight bloom from the french press. Remember the olden days of coffee shapes!?
Breakfast was yogurt with cville cluster granola, banana, strawberry jam, which always requires a side of drippy crunchy peanut butter and some frozen blackberries.
I’m hanging out with my parents until we’re headed to the bakery (dropping me off for a few hours of work) and then dinner out tonight.
I’m NOT biking today. I decided I just don’t feel like getting that sweaty in 100*!
Cait's Plate says
We had similar breakfasts today…except yours looks way better. I’m loving the frozen blackberries.
I also love (and am so jealous of) the fact that you and your dad got to exercise together. That makes my heart happy 🙂
Enjoy your day (and your dinner out!)

I’ve heard about those legendary heat waves in the US this year… Hope you manage to stay cool! Not biking is definitely one good way of achieving that. 😉 In any case, you exercised already – at the most opportune time, too! Not too hot in the early morning, right?!
So nice that you and and do exercise with your parents! What a healthy family you guys are! So inspiring. 🙂 Have a great Saturday – looks like it’s off to a good start!
Julie H. of Spinach and Sprinkles says
Oh the coffee shapes! …I couldn’t see one today. Practice may be in order?
I don’t know what to do about this heat either, if I’m not running by 6:30 in the morning, I’ll regret it later…. Happy Saturday!!!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
Mmmm… that’s about to be very similar to my breakfast too. It is SO HOT!
Allie says
I think the animal looks like… just kidding 🙂 Definitely not a biking day! Try to stay cool!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
I have to run vinegar through my coffeemaker every month or so, not b/c of mold but b/c our water is so horrendously hard the calcium deposits clog up the coffee maker! I hate the smell of the vinegar brewing, it permeates the entire house!
Mary Frances says
Plug it into an outdoor outlet and let it sit on the porch or something for that ‘cleansing’.
Baking N Books says
Did Matt get a morning off?!
Hah – it sounds like your Dad does the read and walk thing too 🙂
lynn @ the actor's diet says
ha ha – i remember your coffee shapes!

Your breakfast bowl looks so delicious! I make similar bowls but mine never look so good. YUM
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
This made me seriously miss my crunchy PB back home! All we have here is the generic smooth stuff. Ohhh how I can’t wait to get back to my stash. 🙂
Kris says
LOL at the coffee maker. I visited my mom at Christmas, my sister was with her at Thanksgiving. When I took the coffee maker out of the closet and opened, there sat grounds and mold from my sister’s visit. Obviously, her mind was elsewhere when she put it away 🙂 Now we both do TJ’s instant. No more mold.
Kaci says
Yum!! Have fun with your family!!
Margo @ Peanut Butter Trees says
Love french press coffee. Those frozen berries look great in that bowl – good for hot weather. Enjoy your Saturday and try to stay cool 🙂
Nikita says
Sometimes if we leave a tiny bit of coffee in the coffee maker, it molds super quickly. What is that mold? I would think coffee was too acidic to grow mold. It drives me crazy!
Kristin @ eat healthy. be happy. live well. says
You’re so much more motivated than me to get out and running that early today! It is a scorcher here. Stay cool!!!
Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food says
So glad you get to spend time with your parents! I love that your dad walks and reads at the same time though I think I would do an audiobook instead because I would totally trip on something! 😛
Those blueberries look yummy except my teeth hurts thinking about their frozen frostiness! 😛
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
Have a fantastic time with your parents!!! I think having family in town is such a treat!
Sweet and Savvy says
Peanut butter and jelly is such a perfect, classic combo that works for every meal! Have a great weekend. 🙂
Natalie S. says
Blech I’ve found moldy coffee grounds before too — really freaked me out! Vinegar should do the trick though 🙂 Have a great Saturday!
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
The blackberries look beautiful!
Hope you have a great day Kath! Stay cool 🙂
Kate @ NaturaStride says
Love yogurt bowls!! I had a similar one today – greek yo, honey, berries, bananas, granola. So great.
Enjoy spending time with your parents!

A nice way to begin your day. Have a good one.

We ARE biking today, thanks to the Northwest “heat wave.” 72!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
holy smokes it is HOT out there! Stay cool 😉
Molly @ RDexposed says
Oi, biking today!! Don’t remind me… le tour.
Jessica @ Jessica Balances says
Good choice to not bike in the heat — I don’t know what it’s like in Charlottesville, but it is absolutely miserable in Nashville. Definitely an indoor day for me! Also — I love your french press! Where did you get it?
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Good call on not biking today. The heat has been brutal! Enjoy your visit with your parents. 🙂
Amanda- The Nutritionist Reviews says
That’s great that you could get out so early to exercise! I went on a 3 mile walk with my mom which was fun : )

Your breakfast looks amazing! I love your coffee cup with the K on it! super cute!
PS went to a Great Harvest today in Lafayette Indiana today! I just had to snap a few pictures!

From a fellow ‘K’, I love your mug! I’m thinking jam+yogurt could possibly be the new jam+peanut butter!
Bear says
Are Bocker, Beaker + Churton back home after their summer adventure? Please tell them I said “hi” and I hope to hear about their time at their Gram’s house!
KathEats says
Hey Bear!! Grammie said the 3 bears were sent to a sleepaway camp this week while they are visiting. We received a letter from them today – they are having a blast! Although Bocker was stung by a bee, so that was a scare, but he was much better after he got a cone of ice cream.
Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance says
I see reading & walking at the same time runs in the family 😉
Karen says
I remember those coffee shapes “back in the day!”
I cannot get enough homemade hummus these days; it’s both satisfying and light and manages to work with both salads and sandwiches and just about any raw veg. makes a good vehicle for transporting it to my mouth 🙂
Stay cool and have a blast with the mom and pop, Kath!
Sylvia @ My Attempt at Balanced Living says
I think it’s the berries with the bowl but 4273 was a fantastic shot to me. It really must be all the purple tickling my eyes 😀 Oh and that is a seriously cool looking bowl
Lexi @ A Spoonful of Sunshine says
Those Cville clusters sound delicious, but I’m almost glad (key word–almost..)I don’t have them in my house; I would eat the entire bag in a day!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
Mouldy coffee is so gross! That once happened to me in my travel mug and I had to toss it because I just could not get rid of the smell! I hope your coffee maker has a better fate.
Jenny says
I wish I could run, it is 100* here in NYC! I am too much of a wimp and don’t have anything to carry liquids in while I run.
Shana says
You are brave! I totally took my workout indoors today! And stayed there!
Hannah says
When I saw the words “mould” in the text I then thought that the white on the berries was mould, not ice! Phew!
Samantha says
Thanks for using my bowl again! Hope that you keep cool!
