Jenna and I headed out in search of coffee in the charming town of Healdsburg. I want to move in with her 🙂
We made a bee-line for Flying Goat Coffee.
So chic!
I got the usual – Cafe au Lait.
It was incredible. So rich and not too roasty. Way better than the cup of Blue Bottle coffee I had at the Ferry Building
J and I did some sightseeing
I think we are a little obsessed with our cameras
We headed by after a quick loop around the square because I had a bus to catch!!
After a little panic and hunting to find it, we finally did, and I was on my way.
The FREE WIFI made the 2 hour trip a blast. But I do not recommend using a bus bathroom…
I was dropped off at the airport where Shaun, Chelsea‘s husband, picked me up and took me to meet the girls.
Chelsea and I have been internet friends for almost four years now! I actually first met her in person on my honeymoon and then again last year when I was here for BlogHer and she was very pregnant with Lucy, who arrived a year ago.
Chelsea lives in San Mateo and we headed downtown on foot for a ladies lunch.
I had a small slice of bread + buttah, which tasted like a donut!! Could have eaten the whole bowl
For lunch I ordered the Butter Lettuce Salad with Blue Cheese, Apple, Gorgonzola, Pumpkin Seeds, and Grapes.
Chelsea got the beet salad –
For lunch we split the Smoked Salmon Pizza with Meyer Lemon Creme Fraiche, Thinly Sliced Potatoes and Capers
I had two slices and the salmon topping + crust of two slices. LURVE smoked salmon!
Then we picked up the kiddo and went out for a mom walk!! How do I look!?
Then it was playitme
When we got home at 4PM I had my first persimmon!!!!
And a few Dr. Crackers with PB + PB (pumpkin butter!)
OMG – I have a new favorite fruit!!! Persimmon = banana + mango + apple.
We are gearing up to head into the city for a KERF Blog Dinner. The last hurrah of this wonderful trip!

That persimmon looks great! They’re 2 dollars a piece here which is all that’s stopping me from getting one, but I’m getting a mojamix with dried persimmons and I just can’t wait
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
The name Lucy is so lovely. I love the pictures of Chelsea and Lucy. They look like they should be in a parent’s magazine. You should frame one to send her.

Don’t we all want to move in with Jenna? 😛 Those are such cute photos of Chelsea and Lucy!!! And how is it possible a persimmon tastes like all my favourite fruits combined? Must try 🙂
Tania says
Interesting…the Italian side of my family eats persimmons when they are super soft and falling apart. I never thought to try them while still firm!
Mom says
You look great on the mom walk!

Aw, I want a big, bulky, food blogger camera too! That salad is beautiful and sounds delicious, and that picture of a lone persimmon! OMG! I love it. 😉 I’m glad you liked it that much! They’re one of my favorite fall fruits, too. And oh, little kids are always too cute, especially in front of the lens of an awesome food blogger camera!
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says

Healdsburg is so adorable. I wish I had seen more of that town when we were there for our honeymoon. Florida needs some great coffee places like the Flying Goat. Love seeing pictures of your time in Napa! Gorgeous!
Kelly from Bridges and Bites says
I’ve never heard of that fruit! I will have to be on the hunt for it now. Hmmmm….
Chelsea (Chelsea's Chew and Run Fun) says
Good to see other blogging Chelsea’s out there. Very darling little girl. As a pro-nanny, I gotta say, you looked like you could handle motherhood behind that stroller. 🙂
I honestly don’t know what to say about that amazing looking pizza. I’ll try though: The combination of ingredients is mind blowing. I mean, taking three individually yummy gourmet foods and placing them on pizza dough is sheer culinary mastermind.
Glad you enjoyed your first persimmon! My mom has a tree in her yard and is never without persimmon cookies in the fall. Delish!
Anais says
Hi Kath, I LOVE your blog! I don’t know what the old layout looked like because I just began checking it out but I absolutely adore this one 🙂
I love persimmons! But I’ve never eaten them like that… usually I cut off the “leafy” top and then scoop out the inside… I’ll try it your way next time though! 🙂
Stephanie @ Foodie McFood says
These are all over my neighborhood except here all of the Asian fruit stands call them “Fuyu.” I have honestly always been too afraid of them, but I think I will pick some up.
Jenna says
those salads and pizza looks so good! and i must say you do look great pushing the stroller 😉

Ameena Din says
Everything looks delicious. I swear I eat double what I normally eat when I go up to Northern Cal because everything is just so fresh! I think the cold air helps make me hungry too. 🙂
Kristen says
HA, love your mom’s comment! Pressure is on! You DO look great on the mom walk!
Enjoy the rest of your trip 🙂
Kathi says
Ha ha! I too think you looked like a natural on the mom walk. Loved your Mom’s comment, she is ready! What an awesome trip. My husband and I went to Sonoma County and stayed in Glen Ellen for our 25th anniversary 2 years ago. I cannot wait to go back.
Allison says
i love persimmons! i am surprised they aren’t more popular. and haha to your mom’s comment!
Natalie says
I saw the persimmons the other day and thought – what strange looking fruit. You’ve inspired me to take a taste!
Hallie (Healthy Twists) says
Ha I just got on the persimmion bandwagon too. Your explanation of the taste is spot on BUT readers beware (I blogged about this the other day) you have to make sure you get the firm, sorta squat fuyu variety…the squishy cone-ish shaped hayacha (or something) is nasty and bitter when eaten raw and is more used for cooking. Just a warning! The fuyus are delicious though…I got them in my CSA so I had to give em a shot, and I’m glad I did!
Enjoy you last night in Cali, Kath!
BroccoliHut says
Love the looks of that beet salad! I always order beet items when I get the chance because I am far too lazy to prepare them for myself at home!
amber says
omg LOVE those pictures of you and LUCY! And you behind the stroller looks very natural! LOL! So nice to meet you again and meet Chelsea!
Tania says
I will definitely have to try this other kind of persimmon. I’m used to the European cone shaped ones! But seriously now, I’ve never met a fruit I didn’t like! 🙂
Maggie says
So glad you hopped on the persimmon train!
Diana says
Awww, cute babyyy 🙂

Hi Kath, I love pizza! I love to make it and I love to eat it, and that smoked salmon pizza looks great – I love smoked salmon too. It looks like the smoked salmon was put on top of the pizza AFTER it came out of the oven, is that true? I want to try making that myself – it would be a GREAT brunch pizza for sure!
Kath says
Hey Scott,
My guess is that the salmon was not cooked 🙂
