One chore I absolutely cannot STAND to do is get air in my tires. I have hated it since I turned 16 and my dad showed me how to do it (and then every holiday through college told me my tires were low). I hate getting gas too. There are two main reasons why I hate these chores:
1) I always do them when I am headed somewhere and feel rushed
2) It makes your hands all dirty
A few weeks ago I thought I probably needed air when the temps dropped and spend $2.25 in quarters and STILL didn’t think my tires were up to 30PSI. All of my pressure gauges are broken so I had to rely on the one on the air thinger and I don’t know if it was accurate or not. So I eventually had to sanitize my hands and leave for class without enough air.
So 3 weeks later I go back for a second try. I filled all of the tires up in about 60 seconds. I realized that last time I was doing it wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wasn’t thinking and didn’t push the lever down to actually pump the air in. So for a good 10 minutes and $3 in quarters, I was just sitting there holding the air thing up to my tires. D’OH!!
So as of now, I have both gas + air 🙂

[Sorry if that was super boring!!]
After the auto fixes I went straight to the gym. We haven’t had much more precipitation and will probably just get light rain all day 🙁 Maybe a little sumptin’ tonight. My workout was just OK – kind of low key and rushed. I did 30 minutes on the Stairmaster and then 15 on the Stat bike and then had to rush home for a conference call that we ended up rescheduling.
I wore a shirt to the gym that I was asked to review by Endure Sportswear.
[After taking this photo I put on about 3 more layers for traveling to the gym!]
PROS: I shirt I picked was a size small, and at first I thought it would be too big, but I kind of liked how it was looser. It did fit well and was comfy. I liked the fabric – it was thick enough – and there was a cute little pocket for a key, snack, or MP3 player.
CONS: What I didn’t like was that once I started sweating the shirt did get wet and since it wicked the sweat off of me, when the shirt did touch my stomach the sweat was icy cold!! More form fitting clothes don’t get cold because they lay against your body. So I’d recommend this shirt for summer months only. I also don’t like that it’s dry clean only. I mean, I’m not just going to rinse out a shirt that I sweat stinky gallons in! Nor am I going to dry clean it. Not sure what I’ll end up doing.
A plus is that the Endure shirts are only about $16, which for sports clothes is quite inexpensive. Plus if you’d like, I’ve got a coupon code for 15% off: ENDURE101 good through January 31st. Need a last minute Xmas gift?
On to lunch – and it’s a good one!!!
I am nominating this for the KERF Awards’ Best Salad Of The Year and also Best Use Of Leftovers.
- Green leaf lettuce + spinach dressed in 1/2 tsp olive oil, agave and Krazy salt
- 1/2 cup mango
- 1/2 cup leftover Pumpkin Spice Garbanzos
- Leftover acorn squash petals
- Leftover pancake pitas
Now I really hope my intestines don’t burst! I tried not to eat too much squash skin, but I inevitably ate most of it!
Afternoon:
- Phone calls to make
- Presents to wrap that didn’t happen last week
- Dishes to do
- Errands to run (Costco)
- and possible a beer tasting that the napping brewer wants to attend when he wakes up
Ameena says
I love that your food not only looks delicious but you take the time to make it so presentable!
Deva (Voracious Vorilee) says
I love everything but the kitchen sink salads – they’re so good! 🙂 that is an awesome use of leftovers, too!
Cait (Cait's Plate) says
I’d vote for it! It’s probably the most beautiful salad I’ve ever seen!
JessicaE says
Your tummy is so used to big amounts of fresh fruits n veggies that I bet it will be just fine 🙂
I once accidentally washed a dry clean only shirt… it definitely wasn’t as new or nice looking after, but it didn’t fall apart either… 😀
sarah (ghost world) says
i have no words for that salad. !!!!!!!!!! definitely wins.
i hate putting air in my tires so much i just make josh do it. so much for feminism 🙂
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
I always make my hubby do those kinds of things. 🙂 I really hate getting gas…ugh!
haya says
i hate spending a bunch of money on something and not having it work. had that problem with laundromat dryers all the time!
i think most gas stations here have free air for tires.
Jenna says
that salad just looks too good to eat!
Carolyn says
My husband asks me all the time, “When did you last check the air in your tires?” and every time I tell him, “That’s your job.” 😳 I mean he’s a car guy why do I have to do it? My grandmother refuses to pump her own gas (she’s 92) becaues it’s unlady-like. Maybe I get it from her.
Stacey says
That salad looks so artistic 😀 Glad you got in a good gym trip! The boyfriend and I are headed to the gym once he comes home! It is sleeting like the dickens out there, but that will never stop me from going to Target…here I go!
amanda @ fake ginger says
I’ve never put air in tires. Isn’t that a shame? I’m going to be in so much trouble when my husband gets deployed. I hate putting gas in too but I’m lucky that my husband usually fills up my car for me.
I totally roasted some chickpeas for lunch after seeing your post yesterday!
Whitney says
A dry clean only workout shirt? Seriously??
Pat Kilmain says
I agree, that’s totally nuts! I have very few DC only things, a dress coat is the only one I do regularly, and that doesn’t need it even once a year. My DC blouses/dresses I seldom wear since I changed from a law firm job and even then I handwashed them in woolite and they were fine.
Wendy says
I’m a lucky girl – my parents own a trucking business, so I always steal air from their shop for my car. 🙂 I don’t mind pumping gas, but I hate that I smell gas for a while afterwards.
I don’t understand why they’d make a workout shirt dry clean only?!? That’s some serious stink to deal with b/n cleanings! I’m afraid that would be a deal-breaker for me, low cost & all. 🙁
Gorgeous salad!!
Have a lovely afternoon!
Janna (Just Flourishing) says
That acorn squash looks so pretty on your salad.
All that complicated car stuff is why I live in NYC… no need for a car here!
Susan says
That salad looks like a beautiful flower! A delicious flower…
Stephanie says
I agree, both of those tasks pretty much suck! I love my new car though, it has run-flat tires which just tell me when the pressure is low and they can even go up to 150 miles if punctured…. fantastic safety feature!!! Now if only it could figure out how to fill my gas tank up automatically so I don’t have to….. 😉
Allison K says
I don’t really get the dry clean only workout shirt either.
Heather @ The Joyful Kitchen says
Most definitely the most beautiful salad of the year! Thanks for the great, honest review on that shirt…it actually is something I’d love to have for summer hikes here in Boulder. Here’s to snow in the morning 🙂
Mo @ Mommy RD says
Yum, I love salads with everything but the… Have fun at the beer tasting. I think I will head to a wine tasting this afternoon and bring a good one home to share with hubster tonight.
Alicia says
Your salad looks deelish and I really can’t understand why anyone would ever design dry clean only workout clothes. Odd.
Jenn (www.j3nn.net) says
We hate getting gas and air in our tires, too!! There’s a local convenience store/gas station that has a free air pump, but I sure do miss full-service gas stations! There weren’t too many growing u p in the 80s, but enough to remember. 🙂
That salad looks awesome! Good luck with the fiber. 😯 lol!
Jenn
Anne P says
Okay I’m sorry but who the heck makes a WORKOUT shirt dry clean only!??!!?
Erin @ Big Girl Eats says
This is hilarious because I JUST posted on this last week. I’m doing a how-to segment and tire/air was what I wrote about! You can check it out if you’re so inclined, or if anyone else needs direction on how to check your tires. Knowledge is power! (and not being stuck on the side of the road!)

Kath says
Great tutorial!!! You make it sound so easy. Esp. with that photo of the woman with the FANCY gauge in the SUNSHINE!! I always need to get air when it’s raining 🙁
Emily says
very pretty salad!
Katie says
Cute workout outfit! I dress similar for my workouts.
And great looking salad.
Happy Weekend!

Karla says
That salad looks AMAZING! Way better than my salad today!
Looks like it would be served at a restaurant!
Lily @ Lily's Health Pad says
A workout shirt that has to be drycleaned? Are you kidding? No way.
Chelsea says
A dry clean only workout shirt? That’s the stupidest think I’ve ever heard of. It may be cheap now, but in the longrun, not so much!
Marisa (Loser for Life) says
That salad looks fantastic! I’m totally into seasoned chickpeas lately!
Erin says
Girl. How can you possibly nominate a salad for Salad of the Year when said salad doesn’t even HAVE goat cheese on it???
Kath says
I got some at Costco tonight just for you!
claire says
a dry clean only workout shirt? what a *dumb* idea
Krista says
That is one awesome looking squarbanzocakgo salad!! (my take on the crazy combo) I agree with everyone else on the not so smart dry clean only workout shirt idea!
Pat Kilmain says
Here’s a reason to move to Oregon (I don’t live there either). All their gas stations are full service – no pump-your-own! Don’t know about air. I usually make my husband do that as well, but I do pump my own gas. Since it’s winter I usually have gloves on, and I keep handwipes in my car for wiping my hands too.
Kiersten says
That salad looks so delicious! I may have to try to create one like that myself.
I don’t think I’d like that shirt either because of the dry cleaning. Seriously, who dry cleans their gym clothes?
Shannon (The Daily Balance) says
salad looks incredible – and so colorful!!!
monicaonthego.com says
Um what, dryclean a running shirt? I think not! But a pocket is fun.
Erin says
That salad looks insanely good! But dryclean a running shirt?! Um, no…
Good luck at Costco. We tried going this morning and it was a madhouse — trying again first thing tomorrow morning.
Sam (Merit to the Carrot) says
It’s crazy how leftover/random ingredient salads turn out to be the best. Absolutely crazy.
Michelle says
YESS just colors alone i see ultimate salad of the year! I didn’t realize that squash skin makes one gassy!! So THAT is why i’ve been so bloated these days?!?!?! I love kabocha skin and ALWAYS eat it whenever I steam them. Ok…now i know to eat it…at a slower pace? hahahah 🙂
You did a fabulous review of the shirt Kath. Working out in too loose shirts can definitely be annoying when it ends up flapping against your skin…especially the tummy! 😛 Hope you have a fantastic weekend!
Ashley says
DRY CLEAN only!!??? For a workout shirt….I have never heard of that. I don’t even like buying sweaters that are dry clean only. I finally got one cleaned that was in my laundry basket for about 8 months, haha. It literally traveled from NC to CO in the basket 😉 As for your salad…HOLy uhMazing! mmmmmmm I must make those pumpkin beans!
Vanity&Sanity says
I hate getting gas, too. I hate it to the extent that it’s almost irrational. I mean, it doesn’t take THAT long and still, I dread it so…. And when it comes to my tire pressure, I con my fiance into fixing it!
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
Wow, that salad seriously looks like art!!! SO pretty and sounds SO delicious! 🙂
Love your summery gym outfit. I bet it will be great for running outside in the warm months!
Nekeisha says
I also hate to put air in my tires which I had to do yesterday and I never do self service gas. I always drop the screw thingy on the tires when I try to put in air and I hardly ever get it right the first time. I have perfected the helpless female look everytime I enter a gas station. Once I accidently pulled up next to a self-service pump and I still got an attendant to pump my gas for me. I am all for “I am woman hear me roar” just not when dealing with my car.
Casey says
Kath – I would wash the shirt on delicate cycle or hand wash with cold water. I do that with most of my dry clean clothes and they are fine 🙂
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
as a feminist i love that you know HOW to fill your own tires with air because i tried. and i failed. and my husband does it.
Kristine @ Purple Pinky Toes says
I also hate putting air in my tires and still make my dad do it for me!! That salad looks so creative and yummy!!
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
Oh my GOSH that salad looks good. I always eat all the skin on my squashes…I have a stomach of steel. And perhaps a strong threshold for gas (tmi?). 🙂
jessica says
I never want to move out of NJ – we have cheaper gas and we don’t pump it ourselves! It’s especially useful when its 20 degrees out and we don’t have to get out of the warm car 🙂 Your lunch looks delicious!
Amanda@thegrainsofparadise says
I HATE putting gas in my car!!! It’s my biggest pet peeve and I always wait until I’m on fumes! As for “air”, I never do that…..you reminded me to check though so I can have my man do it….lol
Sarah (OC2Seattle) says
Laughing over the air in tires because I hate doing that too!
Hillary @ Nutrition Nut on the Run says
Very pretty salad pics today!!
Anne Marie@New Weigh of Life says
The dry clean only thing is kind of annoying. I can’t imagine bringing a workout shirt to get dry cleaned. On the positive side, though, the salad looks tasty!
Tracy Stokes says
If you go to any oil place chain…like a Jiffy Lube, they will put air in your tires for free.
Krissy (Single Serving) says
What a delicious (and pretty) looking salad. Ixnay on workout clothes than need to be dry cleaned. That’s insanity!
Maria (realfitmama) says
That salad looks amazing!! I would have to say NO on the shirt. Why would I pay to wash a shirt that needs to be washed ALL THETIME! I don’t sweat that much, but a work out shirt is a work out shirt and HAS to be washed after each use. NO EXCEPTION!
Katie says
I love squash in salads! You really need to try kabocha if you like acorn. Acorn was my favorite squash until I tried kabocha. And the peel is MUCH softer than acorn peels.
Susan says
I had to put air in my tires every three days with my old car. It was a beater, so I never wanted to spend the extra money to get new tires when I was inevitably getting a new car soon. But man, it sucked doing it in the dead of winter when it was under -20 degrees out. There were times when I legitimately though I got frostbite on my fingers!
