What do you do when 5 O’clock hits and you want a drink but not the buzz?
You drink a 6 pack of KERFweiser, or KERF Light!
1 splash IPA, 90% sparkling water*.
*Note this process is best if you have both in kegs in the basement!
I was going to go to the grocery store today, but then I realized that we just have to survive 1 dinner, 1 breakfast and 1 lunch before we have a dinner out and then we can go to the farmer’s market! So We’re stretching it!
I got this can of clam chowder for Christmas from my Maryland friends, and I’ve been saving it for a night when we need a pantry staple dinner.
I am also lucky that our garden is the only thing that liked this week’s rain
And that I had chickpeas in the fridge and lima beans in the freezer!
All simmered together and we have a delicious soup in 10 minutes
Matt had to meet an installation guy at the bakery tonight, so I dined solo 🙁
Cubes of High Five on the side. I can’t have soup without some kind of dry carb on the side!
That brew..
And with that I’m off to watch Property Virgins – my new favorite HGTV show! What’s your favorite HGTV show? Obviously nothing can top House Hunters, so what’s your second favorite?
cathy says
enjoy your tv viewing!
i love any show featuring canadian designer sarah richardson JUST because i adore her sidekick, tommy (sarah’s shows are likely only in canada). i have seen house hunters and it’s pretty good!
Susan Mc says
omg cathy, totally agree with you, ANYTHING with sarah and tommy is my fav, and “sarah’s house” runs does run in u.s…. also watchable on hgtv app! if i ever strike it rich, my dream would be to hire sarah and tommy to design our dream house!
Meaghan O'Connor (My Spoonful of Inspiration) says
I am impressed by all of your homemade soups! My soup typically comes out of a can 🙁 It is hard for me to figure out where to start! Great photography as always- looks delicious!
KathEats says
Well this was out of a can!! I just souped it up!
Kelly says
haha souped up. good one!
Louise says
Love property virgins, it’s now my number one. House hunters use to be, but it got bumped to second! By the way, I love reading your blog and trying out all your yummy recipes 🙂
Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday says
I totally agree! Property Virgins is WAY better than House Hunters.
lynn @ the actor's diet says
i don’t think my cable gets HGTV 🙁
Mary Frances says
Go online to hulu.com and search for it or anything else you want to watch.
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
I love Property Virgins and My First Place!
Amanda (The Nutritionist Reviews) says
What a low calorie beer alternative!
sara says
Property Virgins is awesome … the only thing that I don’t like is that you can’t see what they’ve done with the place once they’ve moved in!! That’s the best part 🙂
Shelly says
I agree! I always am bummed that I can see how it looks after they buy. Someone should tell the show!
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
We (my mom and I) love Property Brothers! And HH Int’l.
Beth says
House Hungters…International!!! =)
Beth says
*Hunters
Melissa says
Well, second to House Hunters, I’d have to say anything with Candice Olsen. Her rooms are always so beautiful!
Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) says
HGTV takes a way 2nd fiddle to Bravo for me. I admit to loving all the Real HW’s series, Millionaire Matchmaker, Million dollar realtor show, and oh, the E Channel and reality tv on that. But I watch sooo little tv, honestly. I mean, after all, I have a blog and read blogs. there’s no TIME for tv. lol.
Enjoy your tv time!
Melanie says
My husband and I look forward to watching HGTV every Saturday morning. We like Disaster DIY and Income Property.
Emma (Namaste Everyday) says
way to stretch the pantry! I’m doing the same strategy with my closet…it’s getting pretty desperate actually! lol!
I like the HGTV show where they add an income suite onto a house. Perhaps just because the host is cute!
Tanya @ Vegan Faith says
Second favorite would have to be Sarah’s House. Although it is a tough competition for first!
Tessa @ Amazing Asset says
Haha your post titles make me laugh 🙂
Enjoy the show, I am recording it to view tomorrow!
Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food says
I LOVE property virgins!
We really need to figure out how to stream it through Netflix.Roku bec we dropped cable and I miss it! 😛
kaila @ healthy helper! says
I haven’t had clam chowder in forever!!! Now I really want some! Especially some homemade!
Amy Kaye says
Since I feel like I’ve seen almost every episode of House Hunters, HH International and Sarah’s House, I’m on a Selling New York kick right now! So intrigued by all the beautiful spaces… and the ridiculous amounts of money people will spend on places to live! Since I don’t have cable, I watch everything at HGTV.com and Hulu 🙂
KathEats says
I LOVE Selling New York!
Katie @ Nourishing Flourishing says
We don’t have a tv, so I can’t say for the HGTV shows 😉 But, I can say that I love your Kerfweiser. I’ll have to make a gluten-free version with gf beer! Good idea.
Clare @ Fitting It All In says
House Hunters is def. #1, and property virgins is next!!
Sara says
I just started following your blog, and I must say that you have some of the healthiest and yummiest looking items here.
As for HGTV I can tell you that other than House Hunters, my other favorite is Income Property. Scott McGillivray is yummy. When I have the opportunity to catch an episode, I also love Holmes on Homes.
KathEats says
Welcome!!
erica says
you have me craving a good bowl of soup now!
that looks really delicious!!!
McKayla @ Green Groats says
I love how you cube up your bread kind of like croutons!
And yes – although the rain might be burdening us, it sure is good for the garden!
Molly @ RDexposed says
Happy American Craft Beer Week! medrinkbeer.com
KathEats says
Time to celebrate!
Lauren says
Income Property! Hmaskes it look so easy!
Maryea @ Happy Healthy Mama says
I love House Hunters, but Bang For Your Buck is my fave!
Baking 'n' Books says
I’ve never gotten into HGTV at all…but the other day seen some random bits of “House Hunters” and got to me admit…I liked it -which house were they going to pick?! 🙂
Yes – carbs on the side. I admire your ability to use what you have to make meals and not give into the store – I always do that…not good.
Tori (Fresh Fruition) says
I wish I had your bread to cube and use as croutons! It always looks so delicious.
Angela (Oh She Glows) says
Does House Hunters International count? haha. It’s my mental vacation.
Callie says
Property Virgins is my favorite show on HGTV! I want Sandra to help us buy our first house someday. 🙂
Justeen @ Blissful Baking says
Love House Hunters! 🙂 And yummy dinner! I usually try to stretch out my groceries to save a trip to the grocery store!
Steph says
Definitely House hunters international. Me and my guy are from different countries so at least one of us will always be a foreigner, no matter where we go 🙂
Emily says
I think I like House Hunters International best! But, I’ve only seen it once so far 😉
Vanessa says
I like Property Virgin and For Rent the best! House Hunters is a close third !!
chelsea says
Property Virgins is my favorite!! Then House Hunters…i really dont like house hunters international though..
Katherine says
That soup look aaaammamaaazing.
Holley @ Lunges and Lashes says
oooo, such a hard question! I LOVE house hunters! if i say house hunters international… does that count as a different show? bang for you buck if pretty good too. 😉
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
Your soup looks delicious!
I love House Hunters and pretty much any other HGTV show 🙂
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
mmmmm I love soup and bread. Such a fab combo!
Jil @ Big City, Lil Kitchen says
I love anything with Sarah Richardson or Candice Olson – I just love their penchant for clean design!
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
That’s a gorgeous soup for coming together so quickly! Yummy!
Kelly @ Laughter, Strength, and Food says
I totally second the need for a dry carb with soup! I eat a TON of bread when I have soup! They just go together too perfectly! 🙂
MonsteRawr says
I don’t know if it’s my Germen heritage or the fact that I’m 3 beers deep myself, but I’m offended by what you did to that beer. Do you dilute wine? Mix a nice brie with Cheeze Wiz? What has beer ever done to you?
KathEats says
Clearly i have a deep appreciation for good craft beers!!!!
Consider this enhancing the water rather than diluting the beer
Cyclist Kate says
Haha, beer with sparkling water is actually a common drink in Europe! 🙂
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
Mixing beer with sparkling water is SUCH a good idea!!!
Elisabeth says
I like Property Virgins, Get it Sold, anything with David Bromstad and anything with John Gidding. I actually watch Food Network more than HGTV, though. (Love Ina/Barefoot Contessa!) I get a little tired of HGTV with the people who think they have to have everything brand new & absolutely perfect (and huge!) in their first houses…
Barbara says
I agree with your last comment…wholeheartedly.
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I agree, nothing tops House Hunters 😉
Alaina says
You’re so clever with your dinners! It’s very inspiring. 🙂
I like Income Properties and my husband got me into Holmes on Homes.
Clearly Composed says
I am so with ya on doctoring up canned soups and making a true meal out of them. I add spinach or kale to many soups and often add a bit of cooked pasta to bean soup. I am looking forward to trying your souperlicious combo above. 🙂
Allison @ The Delicious Life says
I love adding chicken to a canned tortilla soup, but I have yet to make my own. I’m sure it isn’t too hard… inspiration has hit!
Ashley says
The soup is so pretty and those greens look delish! Maybe we’ll have time to plant a garden next year…I hope!!
Khushboo says
I’m the same- soup aint soup without something to dip in!
lauri (RedHeadRecipes.com) says
LOVE property virgins… I’ve only seen it a few times, but I’ve been trying to watch it since we have been house hunting!
Flo says
When it comes to randomly knocking up a meal you are GENIUS!! So much so that Im going to have to ask you to stop it, as I have a knee high pile of print outs, of all your recipes I want to try lol 🙂
KathEats says
🙂
Jumanah @ Healthy Living in the Middle East says
I love how from practically nothing you create these delicious creations!
Christine @ Burning It Off says
I never watch HGTV, probably because I don’t have a home or garden of my own. I swear, my sister and her husband watch every show on that channel and talk about it all the time… I always make fun of them for it, but they insist that one day when I have a house of my own, I’ll be all over the HGTV. We shall see lol…
Elizabeth @ RunWithSneakers says
Anything on HGTV! I’m lovin Income Property right now.
Sara @ lemony snippet says
LOVE the KERF spoon!
Miranda @ Working Mom Works Out says
I like Holmes Inspection and Property Virgin. But yes, House Hunters is the best!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I love House Hunters International! It’s always on when I’m at the gym.
leslie says
I LOVE Sandra on Property Virgins. Great show! I just wish you could see how they furnish and decorate the house at the end!
Lu says
i have to say, reading the two titles in the rss feed was hysterical this morning – from “bun in the oven” to “i drank a 6 pack” – hah
Jessa @ Under the Apple Tree says
I have found myself also addicted to Property Virgins. I have to watch it before I call it a night and see what happens and which place they decided on. Plus, I love how she works the newbees with her smarts and gets them to think outside of their little virgin minds for house hunting wants.
I would to have her as my Realtor once I’m ready to settle in a specific location, but I find I’m more interested when I hear their in Portland, because that’s once of the places I would love to live.
Dawn says
Speaking of HGTV…. thanks to you I can’t watch anything on that channel now without wanting to add, “It would be great for my morning coffee.” It’s the small things that entertain me mid-afternoon.
– “And does the hot tub come with the house?”
ME : “Yes – wouldn’t it would be great for your morning coffee?”
– “I really like the tile work in this bathroom:
ME: “I look forward to having my morning coffee in here.”
– “Wow this pantry has so much storage space!”
ME: “for my morning coffee”
KathEats says
LOL!!!
Ashley says
Totally intrigued by your drink. I often add a splash of juice or lemonade to my sparkling water as a low-cal treat. Never considered making a “beer spritzer”! A must try.
(ps. Selling New York for sure)
Michelle (The Runner's Plate) says
I always have to have “dry” foods if I have something “wet”–especially soup, even salads.
Nikki T says
House Hunters/International, Property Virgins and My First Place! <3 HGTV!
Kristi @ KristiAteIt says
I love Property Virgins, but it makes me laugh when they stress the virgin part! haha I’m mature, I promise 🙂
Jennifer @ Raisin Questions says
That soup looks perfecto! I would love to have a bowl while watching HGTV! My favorite show ever was Hidden Potential — but I hardly see it on anymore! They need to bring it back. Second favorite, Income Property! There is also a show on Planet Green — World’s Greenest Homes!
Summer @ Well-rounded Hippie says
I see you have the same can opener we do….what’s up w/utensil companies making the handles so big? That soup looks super yummy.
Jess (Sweet Potato) says
Drink without the buzz? Cant say I crave that too often 🙂 That soup looks fantastic though!
becca (bellebottoms) says
House Hunters International is like crack for me! Love it!!
I also like Holmes on Homes because he just gets in there and helps people get their houses back on track! And seriously, a huge blond canadian man in overalls? I mean…you can’t get that anywhere else people! haha
Tracy says
I love Property Virgins, but I think I’ve seen them all!
Have you ever seen Sarah’s House or Design Inc? Love Sarah Richardson and love her design style!!
Natalia - a side of simple says
I’ve actually NEVER watched a single show on HGTV. I guess I better get on that!
Elaine says
I like House Hunters (especially the before and after at the end, which you don’t get with Property Virgins and My First Place), but it’s a little unrealistic how they can just choose one of three houses and it’s theirs. They don’t show the negotiation or anything. What if they are outbid and don’t get it? Or what if the inspection goes badly? You always get a happy ending. On Property Virgins, sometimes they don’t even end up buying a place!
KathEats says
This totally ruined House Hunters for me, but I’ve heard that it’s fake.
They basically buy a house and THEN tour it like it’s on the market before they move in. And then they tour two more similar houses that are still on the market. So they know which one they bought from the start!!
Now that I know that insider info, watching it is not as fun 🙁
Elaine says
Wow, I had no idea! That explains a lot though.
Shelly says
I love the beer idea! I’m going to try that. The soup looked pretty darn tasty too.
Shelly says
Oops! I forgot to mention my favorite HGTV shows. I love HH and Property Virgins as you stated. I also like Color Splash, and What’s my House Worth?. All good things!
Leigh says
Bang for your Buck! Mostly because we were on an episode 🙂 So much fun!
sar says
I was a design assistant on “my first place”, the homeowner’s moved stuff in and were hanging out well before we started the design process, it’s not fake but the timeline isn’t as it seems! And the budget is a little too stingy!! But still a fun show!
KathEats says
That is SO COOL!
I know, though, the MFP acting isn’t the finest of quality 🙂
Elaine says
Speaking of stingy, I always wonder how much My First Place spends on the gift at the end. Sometimes it’s awesome (like a washer & dryer), other times it kinda sucks (like a dart board). And in some of the more recent ones “your friends at HGTV” don’t even give a gift at all!
KathEats says
Agreed!
Melissa @ Journey to Marvelous says
Another great looking soup!
I don’t watch much HGTV but I’d like to find a good “my house is so tiny, here’s how I made it better” kind of show. Would help me in my downtown studio!
