The husband convinced me to bike to the gym this morning – in sub-freezing weather! It was freezing, but mostly because I didn’t dress warmly enough. I need some ski gloves and to wear my winter jacket. A fleece simply won’t cut it! But I’m glad we biked, and it was nice that the sun was up when we left. At the gym I did 30 minutes on the Stairmaster and 10 of pull-ups, chest press and shoulder press. Brrrr!! I wore a headband around my face and ears, which helped a lot, but it had ice on it when I walked in the door! Glad I had this to thaw me out:
I still don’t have wheatberries so we made a 1/2 cup portion:
- 1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup 2% milk, 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 small banana
- 1 tbsp raisins
- Vanilla, salt
- 1/4 a PB LaraBar
- Spoonful Butter Toffee PB
And a wonderful cup of chandelier coffee! 2% milk makes ALL the difference. (My coffee mug photos are ALWAYS blurry!!)
Have a good one!

kath! i totally think you and the husband should do this challenge. (or anyone else who’s reading this and who happens also not to be boring and/or camera shy.) 🙂

Okay…I’m officially reading this blog too much. I had a dream last night that there was a “reader/Kath” dinner at the Olive Garden. I remember in my dream, thinking, “Wow, I wouldn’t think that Kath would choose the Olive Garden, but okayyyyy.” 🙂
Jen says
Whoa girl! I can’t believe you biked in this freezing weather?! That’s commitment!! 🙂

How far of a bike ride is to from your house to the gym? BRrrrr…I’m getting chills just thinking of it. But good for you to get your heart a pumpin’ first thing! Does your husband do weight machines or cardio machines with you?
YUMMY OATS, as always!!!
Moran says
Kudos for riding in the cold! I probably couldn’t do it!
Shelby says
Your oats look so peanut buttery, it warms me up just looking at it =)
I just about to leave for school and I don’t want to even go outside! I have to walk and since I just got back from AZ I don’t have any winter clothes! Eek =(
Betsy says
i was outside for most of the day yesterday and when i got home, i was totally slurring my words cause my mouth was so cold and numb! but i love the cold anyway!!
for a minute i thought there was a crumbled heath bar in your oatmeal. now that would be delicious!
Megan says
I have officially decided that I have to try LaraBar in oats! Looks yummy!
K says
Wow – good for you guys for biking to the gym. I wouldn’t be able to do it! PB larabar on oats sounds like a brilliant idea!
Justy2003 says
It’s even getting cold here in Houston! It was 44 degrees this morning on my run! I was so cold starting out, but warmed up by the end! 🙂 It better not get much colder, otherwise I won’t be able to even get outta bed! We have yet to turn the heat on. It was about 59 degrees inside when we woke up. Brrr! I think I need some tea now 🙂
Betsy in Pittsburgh says
I walk to work every day and go home for lunch, which adds up to 40 minutes walking time, regardless of the weather (I don’t have a car). This morning it was in the low 30s and snowing, which doesn’t bother me… but all morning I’ve heard my coworkers complaining about having to walk in from the parking lot! Annoying.
WeightingGame says
yeah, working out early in the am when it gets cold is daunting. But it’s good incentive to work up a sweat!
kwaze says
I LOVE your little spoon….too cute:)
Teddy says
Wow, I cannot handle cold like that. You are a trooper!
Tina says
I completely agree about the 2%!
BethT says
Do you use 1/2 cup dry, or is that the cooked amount?
coco says
I really admire your will-power to go for a workout under this terrible workout!!! You’re our role-model.
KatieTX says
If it is in the 30s in south texas, I know it has to be really freezing everywhere else! Biking in the cold is so miserable! Good thing you had your trusty oats to warm you up!

I have a question for anyone who has one of the olive oil sprayers. I bought one of the sprayers at Crate & Barrell, but haven’t been thrilled with it and I’m not sure if I’m simply doing something wrong. The sprayer requires you to pump it to build up the pressure to spray but regardless of the times that I pump it before use it still only gives a few seconds of spraying before it needs done again. Coating a large pan takes like 3 or 4 times of pumping and spraying. Does anyone have the same problem or have any suggestion?
Allison K says
brrr…ice on your headband!
it was 35 when I took my dog out this morning, my joints were not impressed with having to move in the cold!
runjess says
Biking makes it feel sooo much colder. I think the cold makes me run late for work because I have a hard time getting out of the shower.
Mel says
I hope you got warmed up! Ice on your headband doesn’t sound like fun!

Kath – it is official! You guys are troopers! breakfast looked good though 🙂

I am so proud of you for getting out it the cold, I am such a CALI girl I couldnt do it!!!!
Julia (Santa Barbara Dreaming) says
You are brave for going out in the cold like that! I don’t even know how to dress or handle myself when it’s below 60 degrees out! (hopefully that won’t happen here for another month…)
BTW your dinner last night looks absolutely gorgeous! happy Monday 🙂
Stacy (IN) says
I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who thinks the C & B sprayer is horrible. I was afraid that I was just being too picky, but I guess to look on the bright side it’s a good arm workout 🙂
Jennifer says
why do you bother to bike when it’s so cold out? that’s what cars are for
Mariposa says
yikes! i hate the cold- thankfully it hasn’t been too bad up here- which is VERY surprising up here in Mass..
Sarah says
Not sure if this is like the toboggan regional thing, but icecicle = icicle?
