First a cow, now a bird!
I am an eagle. A crow. And definitely a pigeon!
And tonight, a bloomed into a bird of paradise!
Well, not 100% but I attempted it in class for the first time and was halfway successful!
I spent the afternoon with my nose in a book. The Road was awesome. So intense. We’re going to see the movie this weekend! The trailer is incredible. Seems to be very true to the book, at least in emotion.
I had an extra large snack at 5:00 to hold me over through my evening yoga class.
- ~1 cup kefir
- ~1/2 a mango
- ~1/2 a cup Kashi Heart To Heart Cinnamon
It held me over perfectly through class. I really wasn’t hungry at all until I came home.
Class at Y2Yoga was awesome per usual. Tonight was a 90-minute vinyasa class and I sweat buckets. I am |thisclose| to touching my nose to my knees for the FIRST.TIME.EVER. Gotta keep practicing!
I came home and wanted a salad, but we’re out of lettuce so I made one out of kale
Plus an orange, a small handful of cranberries, 2 chopped dates…
Post microwaving for 2.5 minutes I added a drizzle of agave and Krazy Salt for "dressing".
Plus some Wisconsin blue cheese! It was awesome!!
Sugar Cookie
Do you like…gingerbread muffins!?
"I’m a gingerbread muffin – EAT ME!"
Matt brought this guy home from work when I texted him that I was having muffin withdrawal. I’ve never had this flavor – AMAZING!!!
Nite!

Ameena says

Julie @savvyeats says
Awesome on almost getting into that pose. I got into crow for about a half second yesterday, and was so excited 🙂
Mama Pea says
Hey ladies, leave the muff jokes to me. I’m not even going to ask what’s inside it.
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
i’ve never seen that pose before – impressive! we have a ton of birds of paradises outside my home.
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
I’ve never tried Kefir before… it is similar to normal milk or soy???
That salad looks so good! Love the Christmas colors. 😉
Kath says
It’s much more like yogurt. Liquid yogurt.
Alyson says
Me too! I tried ‘Bird of Paradise’ for the first time tonight and was close, just need to get my leg a little straighter. I was so excited though!
Liz says
It’s so rewarding to see progress in workouts, whether it be flexability, stamina or strength. Good job Kath!
jenna says

Then fly here and visit me!!!
amber says
okay I am not a yogi but I have freakish flexibility and just attempted this pose, i held it but probably not in yogi standards but it felt like my old ballet days. I am going to have to link my mom she is the biggest Kefir freak!
Katie says
I have been attempting a bird of paradise for months now, and can’t come close; I’m impressed!
What is it about the fall and muffins? I’ve been eating them like crazy lately. I posted a recipe for savory acorn squash muffins (http://makingfoodandotherstuff.wordpress.com/2009/12/15/hear-ye-hear-ye-a-muffin-is-born/) and one for Butternut squash-cranberry muffins (http://makingfoodandotherstuff.wordpress.com/2009/12/05/fall-muffins/) Alas, both are already gone.
Heather @ The Joyful Kitchen says
Kale salad definitely sounds interesting! But….a gingerbread muffin sounds even better 🙂
Lisa @bakebikeblog says
oooh great looking salad! I am yet to come across kale in Australia – but am keen to give it a try when I do find it!
Jess says
That kale salad looks awesome. Do you just microwave the kale with no liquid and it wilts down okay?
I’m glad you’re liking The Road. The movie is apparently very faithful to the book, which is nice and somewhat surprising. My sister wrote her undergraduate English thesis paper on The Road. Since you’re reading it for a book club discussion I thought you might find it of interest. You can find it on her website if you’re interested – http://www.latercomics.com/the_road/
Kath says
It was still wet from washing, so there was some liquid.
Thanks for the link!
Tania @ Moment Anew says
Mmmm! The muffin looks delish!

Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
I love birds of paradise – I think they are so pretty!!
Laura says
I just made gingerbread muffins last week for the first time. I’d never even heard of them until I came across the recipe. They tasted so much like a gingerbread cookie. I like being able to eat dessert for breakfast 🙂
Sarah @ See Sarah Eat says
I love the way you balanced out healthy greens with a sweet treat. Congrats on the progress you’ve made in yoga, I really need to get back to it.
Paige(Running Around Normal) says
Sounds like an awesome yoga class! That muffin also sounds awesome, haha. I’ve never had a gingerbread muffin.
Shannon (The Daily Balance) says
Nice work in yoga – you are becoming quite the Yogi! One of my resolutions is to get started with Yoga in 2010 — I credit you as one of my sources of inspiration 😉
Kath says
May I recommend hot yoga!? I was hesitant to go to classes in person, but it’s really so much more fun.
Kristen @ Change of Pace says
Your muffin looks great… I’ve had GH gingerbread but not the muffins. Probably the same. I’m not too sure about a kale salad… Chewy and bitter? It looked good though!
Kath says
Not bitter at all. I think because I steamed it well. Chewy, yes.
Light Delight with Tou Tou says
that ginger bread muffin looks very cool – the plate too!
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
I saw someone do this for the first time in a yoga class on vacation and was in awe. I’m hoping to one day get there.

Love all your pictures! And I love your ways of fixing things to come up with good meals. You would probably enjoy the look at the whole-foods-based eating plan in “The Perfect Formula Diet” by Janice Stanger. Lots of nutrition and science included and it also talks about the common processes that underlie most chronic illness and how you can reverse these processes through simple food choices. The author has a blog too — I liked the entry on healthy eating as the perfect gift.
And by the way — I’d have gone without the shower too! (later post, but it made me laugh.)
Lauren @ Reading and Running says
I have had the hardest time getting into The Road. So hard in fact I have put it away and read a whole book and am halfway through another and will read yet one more before I even attempt to try again with The Road. I DO want to be into it the way you are, but it just wasn’t happening a couple weeks ago.
Carolyn says
That muffins looks great! I’m a bit muffined out right now, though. I overdosed on pumpkin muffins.
stephanie says
I LOVE me some muffins, and gingerbread….yummmm.
Kale salad, gag me.
