I’m extra hungry today, probably a result of too few calories yesterday, which is a result of too many the day before! Argh, I hate getting out of my groove.
I had a cup of pumpkin tea at 10:30 to help keep my mind off of it. Sometimes I do struggle to keep from snacking! It did the trick, as I probably just wanted to snack and wasn’t really hungry. Water works!
Lunch
I was going to have a bagel sandwich, but I decided that 5 oz of bagel is too much for one sitting. Perhaps not if that was all had for lunch, but I wanted to add in some dairy, veggies and fruit, and combining all that with the bagel was too much. So I had an open-faced bagel, which ended up being the perfect size!!
Smoked salmon and Laughing Cow on a Rye bagel from Hot Bagel Co.
On the side I had a salad made with romaine lettuce (I’m taking a break from spinach!), Pom seeds, last week’s leftover spaghetti squash and walnut oil for dressing. I love the nutty taste of walnut oil. I used 1/2 a tsp – just enough to coat each leaf when shaken in a ziplock bag.
Also had orange sections:
And pumpkin yogurt with Fiber One (they are STILL out of cranberries at the store! What will I do!?!?)
All together for 550 kcal:
Walk
33 minute walk = cold!! I talked to the husband on my cell for a bit and then read an Everyday Food magazine. My hands were FROZEN when I got back! And it’s not even that cold out there. Maybe mid-40s! When it gets even colder I have to add gloves and a scarf, which makes turning magazine pages difficult.
Gotta get workin’!

Hi Kath! I see you have been eating alot of smoked salmon lately so while I was at the grocery store on Saturday I decided to pick some up, being as it always looks so tasty. I bought a small package of smoked salmon (lox). Is this what you buy? Or there is another kind of smoked salmon I saw that needs to be sliced. The kind I bought was already sliced (like lox).
I had some on a whole wheat bagel with a tiny bit of low fat cream cheese. Im just curious as to what kind you buy.
thanks!

Andrea,
Yup, that's what I buy. Already sliced in a package. It's so delicious!! The only con is it's got quite a bit of sodium in it, but as long as you're conscious of what else you're eating, stick to a 2 oz portion, and don't have any health reasons to watch your sodium in particular, once or twice a week shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I am trying so hard to get back on trak with eating healthy 95% of the time. I think I eat prety well, but I know I could do better. I've lost close to 40lbs thatn put 10lbs back on. Trying to lose those 10lbs. I'd love to start a food blog myself. I think it might help me stay accountable. Do you or any other readers have any tips? Where can I go to learn how to start my own page?
Thanks.

Hi Kath,
Your lunches always look so incredibly delicious! 🙂
I have another question… I'm making chicken soup now and the recipe calls for egg noodles; I obviously know that they are carbs since they're a type of pasta but since they are made with eggs I was wondering if any of the protein from the egg stayed intact enough for it to also be considered a small source. Long and complicated, sorry.
Thanks!
P.S. Your blog really is wonderful and I appreciate the advice towards calorie recommendation. I recently went to the dietician at my school and they helped a lot!

Andrea,
Congrats on the weight loss!! 40 lbs is a LOT! I'd recommend WordPress.com. They have free blogs that are easy to use and get started. It's my blog software of choice 🙂 You can even buy your own domain with them for $15 or $20 per year.
Danielle,
Thanks 🙂 From what I can tell, the protein content of egg vs. regular whole wheat noodles appears to be very similar. I think it's fine to have white pasta every now and then, so I wouldn't worry about the carb content. There are whole wheat egg noodles out there if you can find them – then you'd have the best of both worlds!

Hi! I relly enjoy reading your blog– your eating habits are what I aspire to. Right now I doubt I ever will get there, but maybe someday. (i've had an ED in the past and now "normal", intuitive, "real-food" -eating habits seem slightly out of reach for me.)
I've come a long way though. 🙂
Anyway, I want to say keep it up– you seem really healthy and balanced in your life, and I kindof envy but mostly admire you.
Oh, and also– I have that cup you have in orange, only mine is pink.

do you put splenda or sugar in your pumpkin yogurt? or just the spices &pumpkin? because i'm not a huge fan of the souriness of yogurt but i try to force it down my throat anyway, just curious
ps; haha–"orange sections", funny term (=

Julia,
Have some hope, girl!! I never thought I'd see 120 pounds. I never thought I'd be able to go out to dinner and not order a glass of wine. You never know!!! Remember, you're in control of your own decisions!! Thanks for reading 🙂
Ashley,
Sometimes I put splenda in and sometimes I don't. I love the sourness of yogurt though, so you might not like it. You could try a non-fat, low-sugar vanilla yogurt before you try plain. That might be an easier transition. But if you use plain and hate plain yogurt, I'd add some splenda 🙂
