Matt decided to walk in to work today – and make a detour downtown to go to the bank – so I decided to go with him. Practicing for mornings with the stroller!! Only today it was easy because the baby was fed, changed and dressed before I was ; )
I gave him an extra boost in there with a date and almond butter snack to fuel us for the walk. Also a giant water bottle!
The bank hadn’t quite opened yet, so we paid a visit to Cville’s newest bakery, Paradox Pastry.
They make all kinds of decadent desserts (and have croissant sandwiches, small salads, and beer/wine too!) We need to come back at 9pm instead of 9am!
Layer cake for breakfast!?
We both got coffees – a Paradox Shenandoah Joe’s blend. Would you believe it was cool enough for hot coffee this morning!
And we walked to the bakery.
While there I had plans for a slice of Whole Wheat Cinnamon Chip, fresh n hot out of the oven!
And tasted the Lemon Zucchini tea cake too – loved the crunchy crust!
I walked the long way home and am ready for a shower and some computer time. Pondering a way to get my feet up in the air!

Could your bump be any cuter? 🙂
I’m all for cake for breakfast but yours looked pretty good!

Checkin’ out the competition! 😉 Looks like a beautiful morning for a walk.

Not competition!! Colleagues : )
Brie @ Coxswain's Dilemma says
Every time I walk into a bakery, I melt a little inside. It could be my happy place. I give you so much credit for working in one/owning one, because I don’t know how your willpower lasts. Phew.

That date totally looks like a frosted cupcake bite! I’d be totally tempted right now if a pastry shop was within walking distance!
wesley @ the way home says
We walked by there on our way to Bluegrass Grill when we were visiting a couple of weeks ago! My friend who lives there said it was supposed to be really good. Must go by when I get back around to that area.

I want one!
The slice of cinnamon chip, not the bump 😉
Niki @ Maple Leaf Miles says
I NEED to learn how to make a triple layer cake like that! Irish cream and Gunniess? Mmm… I’m glad your morning walk has inspired my chocolate cravings!

In the June/July issue of Fit Pregnancy I read that woman who ate dates during their pregnancy were less likely to need meds to start labor or to help keep it progressing. They did a study and said dates have a compound that mimics the oxytocin… as a date lover, I was thrilled to read that. Keep those dates coming!
KathEats says
I read it too!! (I have a BERF post coming up that mentioned it but couldn’t remember where). I’m eating more dates 🙂 Thanks for the reminder.
Angela @ Happy Fit Mama says
Jumping in…I guess I was an except to the rule! I ate dates religiously throughout my pregnancy but still needed to be induced. My labor was super fast so maybe the dates helped in that aspect! 🙂
Deirdre @ Oh Well Whatever.com says

Hey Kath! Do you have any good sources/articles that definitely show that organic food is better for you? Especially fruits and vegetables? I have been doing this organic food co-op thing and I am having a hard time justifying the cost. It is easier to see why organic meats and dairy are better, I just haven’t seen anything very convincing regarding fruits and vegetables.
KathEats says
I think in general, buying organic for the dirty dozen is smart. The Environmental Working Group is a trusted resource with lots of information: http://www.ewg.org/ourfood and a shopper’s guide: http://www.ewg.org/release/ewg-releases-2012-shopper-s-guide-pesticides-produce
ALso Caitlin just wrote about organic this morning! Sounds like her book would be a good reference: http://www.healthytippingpoint.com/2012/08/local-v-organic.html.

Layer cake for breakfast? Sounds like a challenge 😉
Ellen @ Wannabe Health Nut says
YUM! I love dessert type foods for breakfast. It can be trouble, but MIY french toast w/ almond butter usually satisfies the craving!
Amanda @ flecksofgreen says
I really like the sound of the lemon and zucchini combo in a bread. I’m very sad to say I haven’t had any zucchini bread all summer 🙁 and it’s one of my favorite summer specialties.

Kath, I ran by you this morning!! I’m in cville helping my best friend move into her apartment by UVA and dragged her with me on a four mile run. I would have introduced myself when I saw you downtown but you and Matt were chatting with someone, so instead we kept running and I was all “OMG I KNOW WHO SHE IS!!!!! THAT’S KATH!!!!” Haha. Have a good evening!
KathEats says
Haha awesome! Extra coincidence because I’m not normally out at that hour. I do remember a pair of runners go by 🙂 sorry to miss the chance to meet you!
