Mom and I slept GREAT in our cozy double beds!! I love that hotels have caught on to the down trend and most chains now have down comforters and pillows.
I usually run at Goucher when I visit Gram, but gosh it’s cold! The thought of going out at 7AM was not appealing. That’s when I realized there’s a fitness center in this hotel!! I always forget about them because most are pretty lousy, but they sure serve a good purpose in freezing weather.
My workout on the elliptical was pretty blah – I hardly broke a sweat and had it on level 12. Sometimes ellipticals just don’t do it for me. I only like the Precor ones with arms.
At the end of my workout I did FIVE sun salutations – OUCH!! Still so sore.
And then I walked up 11 flights of stairs. Wish I had thought to save more time to do more flights of stairs – now that got me out of breath! Next time…
Mom and I are now showering. In addition to a Manhattan family, we are a Noxzema family! Gram and Pop have always used it and my mom is addicted big time. I love it too. We both have Noxzema Juniors in our travel bags!
Really appreciate the half and half in the coffee kit! I won’t make it if it’s powdered creamer, but half and half I will do. I also don’t think this Sbux African blend is bad – I like it! (Just wish I could make it a stronger brew!)
Sipping coffee and putting on makeup. We’re headed to Trader Joe’s (!!) on a short walk and then to Gram’s for breakfast. I’m hungry!
See you when I see you : )
Stacy @ Every Little Thing says
They had Starbucks in your room? That’s awesome! and I feel ya on the elliptical. They are such a crapshoot. Some I love and some just don’t do anything!
Have a great day!
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
I love Noxema! Don’t know why I don’t use it anymore. It always make my skin feel so clean.
Have a great day!
Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun says
It’s funny how the elliptical can sometimes give great workouts and sometimes not. I do like using it for intervals, but I guess I’m always thinking of ones that have arms too.
Amalfi Girl (EatRunHaveFun.blogspot) says
If level 12 on the eliptical does not tucker you out, I think you’ve officially arrived. Fitness-level wise.
Alaina says
One time I was really excited to use a hotel gym but the electric charge in the room was so great, I kept zapping myself on the machine! Not fun.
Hope you enjoy Trader Joe’s (oh, and the rest of the day(! I would love to live in an area where that is within walking distance 🙂
Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) says
Does it get better than Starbucks in your room??
Awesome. 🙂
Lauren at KeepItSweet says
i am always surprised at how hard it is to walk stairs beyond a couple of flghts- such a good workout that you can do anywhere!
Katie says
Kath, I always request an extra coffee packet from the hotel staff. Then I brew the coffee with two packets. This helps with the strength factor.
Kath says
Oh good idea – I was afraid it would overflow or something!
Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday says
Yeah, hotel fitness centres usually do suck. Except the ones you have to pay through the nose to use.
Michele @ Healthy Cultivations says
I so love the down comforters and pillows in hotels too. Sometimes, it’s difficult to leave the coziness of the bed… especially for early morning meetings or flights.
Julie @ Honey B. Nutrition says
Hotel gyms are so hard to count on. I’m leaving in two days on vacation for a month – REALLY hoping there are decent gyms since I’m gone so long! I actually went through and looked at each hotel on line to see what I could find out… a bit over the top, I know. Wow Noxzema! I haven’t used that in yeeeeears, so nostalgic!
Ann @ Day by Day says
Have fun at Trader Joe’s! Their Peppermint Coffee is really good! And I think I may get some Noxzema on my errands today… The heater is making my skin so dry lately even though I’ve been guzzling water. I may try that!
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
My brother and I used to drink those creamers in our hotel room when we were kids. He still does, actually, even at 24. I agree with you about ellipticals- they used to give me the best workout, but the more I run, the less effective they are!
Lisa Fine says
I always forget about hotel gyms too, mostly because I’m more of an outside exerciser. It’s too bad you didn’t feel like you got much of a workout, but it’s better than nothing.
Have fun visiting your family.
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Sounds like a great day ahead! I’ve tried all sorts of face wash products but I don’t think I’ve ever had Noxzema (except maybe the toner pads when I was younger)… and I agree on the ellipticals – definitely need the arm workout in order to make myself sweat. Have fun at Trader Joes and at breakfast! 🙂
Kris says
Funny, I bought Noxzema for the first time in probably 20 years last week. Decided my face was dry enough in the winter to use it. Summertime I’m way too oily. Still love the smell and love the feeling, even though I know the ingredients can be irritating to many.
Sarah @ See Sarah Graduate says
Ahh, I hate hotel gyms! The hotel I’m at currently has a gym smaller than my hotel room! And they had the thermostat set on 75! I walked out of it yesterday morning literally DRIPPING with sweat! So gross!
molly l. says
i didn’t realize your fam lives in towson… my mom teaches at goucher! such a quiet and pretty campus to run through!
Allie says
I love the picture of the steps! That is really cool 🙂 Have a great day!!!!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Have fun today Kath!
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
I love it when they have starbuck’s coffee in the room. Now, if they could only get on the almond milk bandwagon…
Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) says
double beds with DOWN…nice… sounds like a cozy night’s sleep!
coffee with powdered creamer is pretty much not worth drinking, i agree!
Amanda (Eating Up) says
I’ve tried more Starbucks blends then I can count, and they ALL have given me the shakes. I can only do Americanos, lattes and tea from there!
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
Ahhhh, I LOVE the smell of Noxema! So nostalgic for me!!
I’m with you– the elliptical just doesn’t cut it!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
I try to shake up the ellptical with inclines and intervals, and going in reverse. Totally agree the stairs are a better workout though. Cool shot, btw!
Dee says
Have fun at TJ’s and breakfast!
Camille says
Gyms were just made for cold mornings 🙂 Have a fun day!
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
ok, i’m about to have to introduce coffee back into my life…for some reason that cup looks SO GOOD!
Katy (The Singing Runner) says
Ellipticals don’t do anything for me either! I barely break a sweat!
Christin@purplebirdblog says
Noxema makes me break out bad! I have pretty sensitive and oily skin though, such a weird combo!
Lee says
I am the opposite when it comes to down in hotels. I hate it because I am allergic and can’t get a good night sleep.
I find that I can get a good workout on the elliptical if I really push myself, but that’s so much harder to do than on the treadmill where my speed is dictated by the number I punch in.
Natalia - a side of simple says
Good for you with the stairs! Sometimes the best work outs are everyday things, x11 that is 🙂 Have a great day!
grocery goddess jen says
I love the smell of Noxzema, reminds me of a childhood friend of mine who used it. I always use Aveeno on my face 🙂
Felicia (a taste of health with balance) says
can i tell you that the first time i ever experienced/shopped at trader joes was in the one you are going to.. changed my life forever hahaha! noxzema reminds me of my family in Poland.. don’t ask why, i really have no idea hahah
Katryn@rampantcuisine says
I agree about the ellyptical…just doesn’t do it for me!
Anna @ ciaotochow says
I love how creative you got with working out at a hotel – I always try to find little ways to sneak in some exercise so my healthy eating/lifestyle doesn’t totally derail for the time-being (because who can resist the complimentary breakfasts, right?!)
Caitlin says
The TJ’s near Towson is the one I always go to! The parking is a mess but other than that, it is great! Their unsalted almond butter is my absolute fave–yum!
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
Have fun at TJ’s!! 😀
Stair workouts are always intense, and that is such a great way to sneak in an out-of-breath workout. 😀
lauren says
i’m all for a stairs workout too, but some hotel (or other public buildings) stairways are empty and not so safe. many advise against using them except for emergencies.
Namaste Gurl says
Awww, enjoy your precious time with your madre miss Kath!
Amber K says
Ellipticals are definitely my fave right after the ArcTrainer. I always get such a huge workout from them. But I HATE the ones with moving arms. I never use them and they usually get in my way.
Eileen says
You know, a year ago, my face seemed so blotchy and irritated … I decided to go back to Noxema, which I hadn’t used since I was a teenager. It saved my skin! I love it.
Mary Allison says
Powdered creamer. Ew. I want a birthday ring. I think I could fall into that tradition quite easily.
Emma (Sweet Tooth Runner) says
Haha your grandma suggested Subway! My gran wouldn’t suggest that in a million years! I like the sound of your gran! 😀
Melissa @ I Never Imagined says
I’ve never noticed that about ellipticals before! I do know that I don’t like the older machines, just the huge new ones because they’re so smooth!
I stay in hotels a lot for work and you’re lucky they had Starbucks- some of the others can be so bleurgh, right? And every single hotel I’ve been to only provides half the amount of sugar and milk you need!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
It always surprises me how out of breath I get from just walking up stairs! They’re a killer workout!
Hannah says
It’s the little things that really make one hotel stick out over another! For me, warm bedding is key 🙂
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
We’re a Noxzema family, too. My mom has used it since I can remember. The scent always reminds me of sunburn, though! lol
Kiran says
Oh! There is not one TJ in Orlando!!! Why or what am I missing??? Hope you had great fun with mom and Gram 🙂
