I had a swim on the agenda today, but there were three reasons why I didn’t want to swim:
1) The walk home post-shower would mean re-sweating myself
2) I didn’t want to drive my car
3) I was feeling just a bit sore from my lifting yesterday and not very energetic in general
So a walk to the city market sounded much more appealing – even in the 100* heat! What!?
Of course I chose the shadiest route there, hugging the buildings. In the shade with a hat, sunglasses and ice water in my hand, it wasn’t all that bad. It’s just the stretches of sun that are terrible! My pregnant belly button got a not-so-lovely bullseye.
I met Matt there and we shopped around for a bit. Sipped on some ice cold lemonade/passion tea mix.
It’s sweet Ellen’s last day before she moves to Northern Va : ( We will miss her lots!
Back at home I kissed the door of my house with it’s AC on (although I am terrified of our electric bill this month…) I sprinted out to the garden and back for some greens before taking a cold shower.
This is my favorite lunchtime salad: greens, tomatoes (homegrown!), sharp white cheddar, olive oil, honey, sea salt, an egg and a slice of bread.
With lemonade water!
Name that room!

Egg on greens with toast is my dream brunch! Looks like Saturday perfection to me! 🙂
Allie@LiveLaughEat says
The summer heat makes me crave fried eggs. I don’t know why…perhaps because it’s hot enough to fry one outside? 🙂

You got it!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
that salad looks great, and refreshing for a hot day! It’s pretty steamy here in Chicago too!
Gretchen says
You’re in baby’s room! Only 97* in TX. Still can’t believe the weather everyone is having, and ours is mild in comparison!!!
KathEats says
Yep!!
Angel7 says
If I put a pan with an uncooked egg in it out on our driveway around noon today, the sun would surely have cooked it! I cannot believe the weather we are having! But like I always say, I am not one to complain about the heat being that we do not see the sun for many months out of the year.
Our gas bill was actually really low last month. We keep our air conditioning at 74 degrees, which sometimes I turn it down to 73 from time-to-time.

I love the HEAT! Our area has been having pretty hot temps but I can’t say that I would mind 100 degree readings too much…I’d much rather be hot than cold!
KathEats says
I would definitely much rather be hot than cold!
Sarah @ Learning to Feed Yourself says
It is so hot in Wisconsin too! A trip to the farmers market was the only thing that got me out of the air conditioning today!
Your lunch looks so good and refreshing!
Katelyn Block says
Seriously — this heat is so STICKY! I’m road tripping back home and I’m pretty sure we’re headed back into another storm. We’re so lucky. And you’re totally taking pics in the baby’s roo
— it’s such an awesome chill spot. Ps I love spray painting things (ie a few posts ago) and teal. Can’t wait to see how the bookshelf comes out! xoxo and much love to you, Matt, and Karen.

I haven’t gone outside during the day all week. Thank goodness for AC and salads!!
Julia H. @ Going Gulia says
Ugggg, it’s super hot by me, too. I believe 100 degrees! I had plans for going on a run at 6 am this morning to avoid the heat, but that actually didn’t end up happening since I pulled a muscle in my leg 2 days ago and figured I was better off skipping the run to avoid injuring myself more. Probably good that I got to stay out of the heat (and sleep longer), though!
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
this sounds perfect: greens, tomatoes (homegrown!), sharp white cheddar, olive oil, honey — yes, I want that salad right now!
Amanda says
You often mention a salad dressing with olive oil, honey, and salt. Do you whisk them all together and then drizzle? And what proportions? It sounds simple and tasty…
KathEats says
I just drizzle them on individually. Maybe 1 tsp or 1/2 a tsp of each.

I hit the market too today…although ours is not a walk away! Picked up some local corn…my boys and nephews will love the first of the season corn! Experiencing high winds too cool off with…windows are all open…loving the fresh breeze again! Salad looks perfect!

Don’t even get me started on our electric bill! I’ve had months where it’s been over $150 and that was when we were in a tiny apartment – gotta love FL!
Emma says
Good thing you found ways to beat the heat! I’m on the west coast now but my friends back home (also VA) keep telling me how steamy it’s been!
Liz @ Virginia Bloggers says
Yum! That salad looks fantastic! It’s been so CRAZY hot!!! Stay cool 🙂

All your food always looks so delicious.
I know what you mean about walking home from swimming, after a shower, in the heat. I always need another shower by the time I get home.

Hi! I live in No. Virginia (Gainesville), will Ellen sell at farmers markets up here?
KathEats says
No, she was just working for us here in Cville.
