Morning!!!
I am noshing on this delicious breakfast – fried egg, a small slice of blueberry-peach swirl toast and the first of the extra flavorful summer berries! + OJ on the side!
We are integrating back into East Coast life – Mazen is actually still asleep. My body clock is slowly adjusting back, but his shows no sign of wanting to be a Virginian again! I tried waking him up but he wouldn’t budge. Foreshadowing to the teenage years.
This was my breakfast yesterday – slim pickings from an empty fridge! A yogurt topped with Cville Cluster Granola and an apple. Plus black coffee!
We went to the grocery store yesterday and now have tons of great food to prepare this week. Plus a garden that is begging to be eaten! Matt harvested the first eggplant and some okra last night.
I took M over to Sarah’s yesterday to go swimming with Sylvia. They played together better than they ever have before – a sign that absence made their hearts grow very fond. Sarah served us quiche, salad and fruit for lunch.
Last night was our final soccer game of the summer season, until the play offs that is! I made the mistake of having a big slice of the above swirl bread an hour before the game and felt like I had a 10 pound weight in my stomach! Plus it was over 90 degrees and SO HOT. We sadly lost the game (making us 5:2 for the summer) but we had fun and that’s why we play!
I went out with some teammates for beers after
We went to the Tin Whistle, an Irish pub downtown. We shared one of the Scotch eggs – a hard-boiled egg wrapped in sausage and deep fried (OMG!) and some Irish soda bread that came with cheese and whipped beer cheese spread.
Happy Hump Day!

HOLY SHA-MOW! That bread looks AMAZING. Brilliant way to incorporate summer fruits into bready delights. Ya’ll selling that at the bakery, or is that a homebaked thang?

Hi Kath!
Love your blog. Wondering if you follow a grocery budget? I admire your highly rounded diet and wish to instill some of these into my family of 6. Thanks!

That bread looks ah-maz-Ing!!! We made the mistake of visiting Cville on a Sunday last time. We most certainly will have to come on a Saturday this summer to try that bread! I also want to go to the Farmer’s Market you always share pictures from. It looks like a great one.

I think it’s SO great that you play soccer and love it, Kath!!
I was just watching Mind of a Chef (episode of the food of England) and they were making scotch eggs! I had never heard of them, but I totally fell asleep hungry that night just thinking about them 🙂

I am super jealous of the blueberry peach swirl bread! That looks incredible. I just tried the blueberry lemon bread at our local Great Harvest and I fell in love!
