So glad to be home!!
It was nice last night to have my post already done and to walk in the door, drop my bags and go straight to bed.
But of course that’s not how it happened. I’m already all unpacked! I put away all of my clothes (which only took me 5 minutes), sorted my electronics, emptied my carry on bag, sorted the mail and took a hot shower and then crawled in bed, giving my sleeping husband a kiss. He left for work this morning at 3am (had to do sweets today because of a schedule conflict) so I will see him awake later today!
Smoothie on the menu!
The Mix
- 1 huge banana
- 2/3 cup frozen blackberries
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
BLEND!
Topped with some Nuts About Granola Plain Jane and blueberries!
Adagio vanilla tea on the side
And a large serving of Selling New York! Love that show.
My house is a MESS. Not from spewing suitcases but there is dust, dead bugs, leaves, and dirt everywhere. I haven’t cleaned the floors in ages between my two trips. Hoping I can tackle that tomorrow!
Have a great day!
kaila @ healthy helper! says
Glad you got home safely!!!
That purple is such a pretty color to wake up to in the morning!!!
Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) says
Getting home can be so overwhelming- trying to get everything back in order. Sounds like you’re already on top of it though 🙂
Have a great day!
Kristin @ eat healthy. be happy. live well says
You are such an inspiration…actually unpacking the night you get home! I don’t think I’ve ever done it before. But I hear it makes for a much happier morning when you don’t have to do it the next day 🙂
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
haha! Hmmm I think I’ve done that ONLY ONCE before. 😛 Great to have you back on schedule Kath!
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
Yum such a pretty colour!
I personally hate unpacking – I’m totally guilty of leaving a mess on the floor for a day or two 🙂
Hope you get some rest and get to catch up with your hubbie soon.
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
Those early morning shifts have got to be one of the hardest parts about owning a bakery!
Love the color in your smoothie bowl. I actually skipped the spinach in mine this morning and had a non-green protein shakes for the first time in months!
Angela says
Im with you Kath! I always unpack the night I get home no matter what! It makes for such an easier morning when you dont see your FULL bags first thing in the morning.
Evan @ Chocolate and Chard says
You’re so good about unpacking – it’s my LEAST favorite part of traveling, I always procrastinate! I hope getting back into the swing of things today is totally painless…minus the floor cleaning part. A good, loud playlist usually helps the process along 🙂
Baking N Books says
Ditto the unpacking. Although I’d hate to see it just sitting there as well.
Evan @ Chocolate and Chard says
Samesies. I bribe myself with a glass of post-unpacking wine, and most of the time, it gets done pronto 😉
Meaghan O'Connor (My Spoonful of Inspiration) says
YUM! Purple smoothies with fresh blueberries- sounds like the perfect summer breakfast! I’m never one to unpack my stuff right when I get home, I let the bag sit there a little while and taunt me. I’m impressed! 🙂 Loved following all of your fun HLS blog posts!
Blessing @ Working Mom Journal says
Love love the spoon. Purple seems really fitting for the day 🙂
Baking N Books says
I love the purple smoothies better than green 🙂 Are you working at the Bakery yourself today?
Also – what size bowls are those that you typically use?
Katherina @ Zephyr Runs says
Purpley smoothies <3 Ever since I started adding spirulina (even a little bit) to smoothies they're ALL green. If I ever want some color again I have to leave it out 😛
Can't believe you managed to have a late night traveling and still take care of business before falling asleep!!
Cait's Plate says
Ugh I totally know the feeling. I’ve been traveling a lot and the cleanliness of my place is definitely suffering from it! This weekend is definitely a CLEANING weekend!
I’m also jealous that you post was already done upon your arrival home last night. I got home, hadn’t blogged, eaten, unpacked, nothing! It all worked out okay in the end though 🙂
Enjoy your first day back to normalcy!
Rebekah @ Medicine, Munchies and Movement says
It must be nice to be in the comfort of your home again, but the HLS looks like it was a lot of fun! And power to you for accomplishing so much before calling it a day!
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
I need to get in to the habit of unpacking as soon as I get home, otherwise my bedroom is a mess for days!
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
I always love the colours of these smoothies! Looks fab 🙂
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Wow, that is one very vibrant bowl!! I can’t stand unpacking but just finished all of mine (minus my laundry which is currently in the wash and still needs to be hung up to dry!) but I always come home feeling like my house is upside down and that I need to get things back in order. Don’t you wish we could have another weekend to recover from the weekend? 😛 Have a good day Kath!
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
Impressive. I went to the beach last week for a few days, got home on Friday evening and STILL haven’t fully unpacked! Bags sitting on the bedroom floor… 🙁

Erica @ Eating On The Run says
I’m really loving that smoothie. I need a blender, I’m missing out on all of these delicious recipes. yum!
Ashley@MyFoodNFitnessDiaries says
That smoothie is one of the prettiest I’ve seen! Who knew smoothies could be so pretty? I guess when Kath makes them, they are! 😉
katie @KatieDid says
I’m just like that (usually) after a trip- laundry in, bag unpacked, room sorted…it’s nice to have a sense of calm when you wake up in the morning after a whirlwind of a trip!
Natalcho @ Tomatoes Rock says
Wow, I love that colour! It sure wins over a green monster:) I prepared some carob and blueberry pancakes over the weekend but unfortunately that beautiful colour doesn’t go so well with pancakes:) I couldn’t even get my own mom to try them! Her loss though because they were delish!
Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance says
Excuse me– 5 minutes to unpack your clothes!? You are truly gifted, Kath
KathEats says
10 seconds – dump out laundry bag into dirty laundry
20 seconds – put jeans + shorts back on shelf
1 minute – put away shoes
1 minute – put away toiletries
20 seconds – remove misc items
10 seconds – hang up hanging clothes
🙂
Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance says
Pure skill, if you ask me 😉
Lisa says
Sounds like Matt will need a vacation or at least a day off soon!
Sabrina says
So nice to spend so much time together yesterday!
I’m happy to hear you made it home safely. Have a fabulous day cleaning!
Lisa says
The “house is a mess” feeling is the worst after a trip! I always try to clean the house before I leave, but I’m still working on actually going through with it! My advice for getting into cleaning is start slow and small. 🙂
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I hate unpacking, but it’s definitely nice to wake up and have it done!
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
Isn’t it funny how much you can get done if you just do it? It usually doesn’t take that much time to unpack, we all just procrastinate.
Cat @Breakfast to Bed says
“Selling NY” makes me depressed about the housing market here. We spend entirely too much $$ on tiny places.
Khushboo says
I’m just the same after a trip- I can’t sleep unless my bags are fully unpacked! I rather that than wake up to a mess!
Lindsay @ Lindsay's List says
Selling NY makes me wish I could move out of the country and live a “Sex and the City” life…sigh

beautiful purple smoothie!
Lindsay @ Lindsay's List says
sorry for the repost…my internet went down while I was posting the first comment.
Angela (Oh She Glows) says
I love Selling New York! I secretly dream of being a big city girl living in a penthouse when I watch. Oh, and a closet like Serena… 😉
Leah says
mmm I notice a pattern, I post, and suddenly another blogger does as well.
Kerry says
Your house is a mess – I can’t believe this Kath!
Amanda says
Ha! I can hardly believe that. I usually leave my suitcase sitting around for a week before I get to it. Beautiful blackberry breakfast smoothie. I picked blackberries at a local farm this weekend… gotta say, the pickins were slim. Most of the berries looked ALMOST ripe (meaning red), which made it tough to find the good ones. It’s easy to forget how labor intensive berries are when we can just pick them up from the store!
Mom says
Amanda,
This was fun to read. I am writing a novel for kids and just finished a huge blackberry picking scene.

Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Coming home after a week away, my house is a mess too. I leave again tomorrow and am determined to clean it from head to toe so I can come home to a clean, organized house and not have to do it over the weekend!
Cait @ Cait hates Cake says
Ahh, isn’t it SO nice to get home from a trip and get unpacked right away?! One extra step, but I feel so much more relaxed and HOME once I do it.
Wymberley says
I think it is almost totally and completly worth it to hire someone to do the floors. Any price.
Shaya (Eye Girl Eats) says
Wow, unpacked and ready to go BEFORE bed?? it takes me at least a week to unpack from a trip… I need to get on the ball!
Although I have to say, the thing I do first when I’ve been away for a while is vacuum up all the dead bugs… but just because I’m totally grossed out by that!
Regina says
Kath! I was just reading about this cool event in Charlottsville and thought of you. http://heritageharvestfestival.com/ Not sure if you’re interested/able to make it, but wanted to zing you a link just in case. xoxo
KathEats says
It’s on my calendar!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
hellos SMOOTHIe!! Looks delish 🙂
Angel7 says
Oh my… That is an AWESOME purple color–so vibrant!!! Just the brightness of the purple color alone will wake you up 🙂

Kristen, Sweetly says
Mmm, I wonder if our vacation house has a blender. We bought 4 bunches of bananas, and 2 days later, they’re gone. Hahaha. I guess making smoothies for everyone would be a pretty large commitment.
Meg says
Welcome home 😀
sara @ real fun food says
Your smoothies always look so amazing but whenever I make them they aren’t as good 🙁
lynn @ the actor's diet says
welcome home! i always try to clean my house right before i leave for a trip so i don’t have to deal with that, but it doesn’t always happen!
Rosa - Fitness, Food, Fulfilled says
I can’t get a good night’s sleep until I’m all unpacked when coming back from a trip. The extra 10 minutes are always worth it to me.
I want your smoothie bowl!
Sally Anne @ PaleoRunnerGirl says
WOW! What a gorgeous smoothie! I is *almost* too pretty to eat! I hate having to get my house in order after a trip. It is always CHAOS. Good luck!
Kate G says
Hey Kath – random question. What do you think of the Chobani greek yogurts with fruit (blueberry, dark cherry, lemon etc.) from a nutritional perspective? I was looking at the nutrition info and they are really high in sugar. Do you know if there are less sugary, but non-plain greek yogurts out there? Thanks!
KathEats says
I always prefer plain yogurt both in taste and nutrition. I think if you eat yogurt everyday, you should eat plain. But I don’t think their sugar content is anything really bad. Having a few a week is totally fine
Christine (The Raw Project) says
Great breakfast, gorgeous colors! I feel ya on the messy house, mine isn’t looking that great after spending most of the weekend in the hospital with my grandma – ugh!
KathEats says
Hope your grandma is better soon 🙁
Angela @ momethis says
That looks so good! Ill have to try it. Thanks for sharing!
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
I am the same way when I get home from a trip. I NEED to unpack. I can’t sleep until I unpack, put the toiletries away, the carryon, the electronics get plugged back in, the mail….and sometimes I’ll even hit up a 24 hr groc store b/c I need food, too 🙂
Good luck getting those floors cleaned today!
Lynda @ healthy hoboken girl says
Glad you’re back safe…good luck with all those chores. I’m knee deep in laundry myself.
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
I do the same thing! I walk in the door, set down my bag and start unpacking! If I don’t, the bag sits there for days!
Hillary says
I’m the same way when I travel—the first thing I do as soon as I walk in the door is unpack. I always want to feel “back at home” again as soon as possible!
Molly @ RDexposed says
That looks like a pool oh phytochemicals (yaaaay nutrition nerds!).
Shayla @ The Good Life says
Happy to hear you made it home safely! And I loved reading all your HLS recaps…looks like such a lovely time and I hope to go next year!! 🙂
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I always like to unpack the night I get home too – it lets me go to sleep with a clear mind!
Stacy @ Say It With Sprinkles says
I NEVER unpack right when I get home, so I’m pretty impressed/envious of all of you who just buck up and get it done & out of the way first thing! I procrastinate much more than that, and am usually WAY too tired and can only think of one thing- sleep! haha =)
Hannah says
SO PRETTY!!! I’m totally thinking right now that it’s worth leaving out the spinach and adding an extra handful to dinner so that my breakfast smoothie can be this gorgeous and not browny 😛
