Last night at dinner Matt and I discussed each of us taking a day or long afternoon off each week. Today just kind of happened to be my day, although I’m headed in to the bakery now. I spent the whole morning at home getting some projects done, and he had the office computer all to himself – we are more productive in our own ways!
I think I’m going to take off Tuesdays and he will take off Thursdays after the doughs are done. We’ll see how it goes!
I wanted to cook something, but I also didn’t want to dirty anything in the kitchen. So I made iced tea!
And decorated the houses with the new vintage boxes my mom gave me!! LOVE them!
Also did lots of laundry.
I would not recommend putting hot sheets on a bed in July at noon with no AC on! Too much warmth!
I also did a little touching up in the kitchen. These lids have been driving me crazy in the back of a cabinet – I moved them to the pots n pans cabinet in a basket. Much better!
New tea towel from mom from BB&B
Lunch @ 1:30!
Big salad crunched with olive oil and salt and topped with carrots, parrano cheese, leftover greek chicken, capers and avocado!
Cheddar garlic on the side. I would have preferred one of our whole grain breads, but this is all we had at home. Sure tasted great!
Iced tea! Lesson learned: if you don’t like it hot, you probably won’t like it cold either. This was Twinnings Chai decaf. Too much spice for me.
‘Bout to bike in – it’s gonna be a hot one!
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
mornings off to do chores and things around the house are just the best!! House looks beautiful!
sarabshea says
love your clutter-free kitchen counter! striving to make mine the same way…
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
Love the way the boxes look!!
Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn says
Loveeee iced tea. Days at home that are productive turn out to be the greatest 🙂
Laura @ Cookies vs. Carrots says
Those vintage boxes are adorable!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
I’m not a fan of that chai either, it is spicy!
Cait's Plate says
Oh my gosh I ADORE those boxes. Your mom has such a good eye for things!
And the basket for the pots and pan lids is a really good idea – mine too drive me NUTS and no matter how I try to organize them it just never seems to work well. I’m definitely going to go the basket route!
Also? I hear ya on the tea thing. I’ve tried “icing” versions I don’t like hot before but it doesn’t do it for me either. ESPECIALLY the spicy teas – how do people drink those!?
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
When you are self-employed, it’s imperative to take days off. If you don’t take them, no one is going to give them to you, right? 🙂 That’s how Dustin and I see it.
That salad looks delish. Love adding leftovers to greens. Yum!
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
Chai for me = the spicier the better!! 🙂
I often buy the Stash Double Spiced Chai teabags – or make my own Chai from scratch on the stove. (infinitely better, and infinitely more time consuming!).
Congrats on a productive ‘around the house’ morning. I need one of those soon!
~
Beatrix @ Beaglebea says
You’re place looks neat and tidy.. good job.. and that salad looks divine.
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I love those vintage boxes — I used to have a few Coca Cola ones in my kitchen. Then I went on a cleaning/organizing spree and donated them. I kind of wish I still had them!
Lunch looks delicious and too bad about the tea! I never like iced tea I make at home.
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
Oh the boxes look cute, good ideas! I love herbal tea, SO yumm.
Nicole S says
Your fireplace looks great – I love the wire circular piece–do you remember where you came across it?
KathEats says
I think it was Pier 1
Amy says
Ahh your house looks so pretty! I love those vintage boxes too–gives your house a nice mix of country style which is so nice. 😀
And I’m with you about the iced tea… I can only handle it when it’s doused in sugar, which is not very appealing either. :/
Ashley O. @ The Vegetable Life says
I would love to have a morning/early afternoon off from work each week and just work a bit later on those days! I did at my last job and I was always soooo productive, I loved it!
Donna @ Life of a Happy Blonde says
I want those vintage boxes, they are gorgeous 🙂
I love chai tea lattes but just the tea is too much for me!
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
I’m a weirdo – I like hot tea (plain, regular tea) but not iced (except Sbux passion tea).
Lauren says
I’m the exact opposite. I like all teas iced but rarely like them hot.
Katie says
you guys more than deserve at *least* an extra day off a week! Hats off to you both for working so hard!
I love that idea with the lids in the basket! It’s so simple yet despite my same aggravation over those lids, I never thought of it! I may have to do the same for tupperware lids…those drive me crazy too! 😉
Jacqueline @SmartSolitude.com says
Your house looks beautiful. Lots of natural light.
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
Yes I agree~it’s so bright and refreshing lookin’ 🙂
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
I’ve been making iced tea lately too and loving it! Your house is lookin’ squeaky clean Kath, nice job! You’ve reminded me that I need to do the same thing this week!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
You’re so organized! Seeing your pretty house totally just guilted me into finally folding the sheets piled on my kitchen table. 🙂
Kristen @ Change of Pace says
Everything looks so pretty! Agreed on that Twinings Chai… Too spicy.
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
So glad you and Matt have an afternoons off/arrangement. Those are the type of things that save SANITY when you know you have that little time window built in. If you ever have kids, knowing your partner is going to watch child for 2-3 hrs one afternoon a week is about the biggest sanity saver ever, too! 🙂
Hot sheets, July, sweat-fest..I kinda had that event yesterday 🙂
Baking 'n' Books says
I seen those boxes at BB&B before – so pretty. But I knew I would need more than 1 and they add up in price!
I don’t like spicy teas either – unless it’s CHOCOLATE Chai Spice. That I can do 🙂
Kate @ NaturaStride says
Love capers! They can totally take a dish to the next level – looks great. Hope you enjoyed your morning! Love quiet mornings at home…
Colleen says
I LOVE the cheddar garlic. I bought it from the Lexington, MA store a few weeks ago and froze some of it, so we’re having it w/ our pasta tonight. I have also used it as a bun for my cheeseburger and that was especially scrumptious. It’s so heavy and doughy, almost like a thick pastry – deeeelicious.
Amanda (The Nutritionist Reviews) says
Looks like a very productive day for a day off!
Khushboo says
I love all tea but ironically am not a fan of iced tea. Good idea about the days off, way to look out for your mental health 🙂
Julie H. says
Mom’s are the best, I love how she sent you a kitchen towel…. My mom does that too 🙂 It feels like she is in my kitchen!
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
I can imagine how hot it must have been to put hot sheets on a bed in this heat! Note to self.. let bedding cool down before making bed.. (mine are in the dryer now!)
Bee Goes Bananas says
I’m in love with your house! So gorgeous!
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
Wow, you’ve had a very productive day off! Good idea taking little rest days, too. That way you don’t get too burnt out at the bakery or anything being there so often.
Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance says
Please remember to take time off when starting a new business! It is CRUCIAL for your sanity
Christine @ BookishlyB says
That’s a really good idea, to both take some time away. I know people who do that with kids and it really helps when both spouses are team players (my husband and I do that on weekend mornings with our dogs).
Michelle @ Turning Over a New Leaf says
Hmm. I’m not sure I’d agree about the hot/cold thing! There are some teas I prefer hot and others I prefer cold. This is even more so with coffee. I’m really not into unsweetened hot coffee, but for some reason when it’s on ice, the bitterness goes away and I don’t really need to sweeten it. So weird!
Jessica@vivalaveggies says
That’s great that you are allowing yourself a day off! Summer is for relaxing and enjoying all of the sun and warmth it has to offer!
Hillary says
You got more accomplished in one morning than I think I got done all WEEK! Way to go, Kath!
kaila @ healthy helper! says
I loooove capers on salads! Such a great addition!
Kristin @ STUFT Mama says
Love the vintage boxes and am so jealous of how clean your house looks. I’ve learned to let my house go a little since I have two toddlers running around like crazy everyday. Yikes. I’m so envious. 🙂
Namaste Gurl says
Your such a good decorator– love what you’ve done with everything around your house! I’ve describe your decor in a couple words: clean and simple 🙂
Christine (The Raw Project) says
The vintage boxes are so cute. And that reminds me I still have piles of laundry waiting for me! Lunch looks great as usual.

I love when I have time to clean and organize. It’s essential to my health!

I am not a chai fan either. I have tried it both iced and hot and defs find it too strong for my taste! I love all the new decorations in the house 🙂
Rachael @ The RDrunner says
Nice organization skills. I am moving soon to a house with a nice big kitchen, can’t wait to organize it. Hope you are able to take your scheduled days off!
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
Love all of those old boxes!! I just got an old bread box from the 40s to put in my new kitchen!!
Katherina @ Zephyr Runs says
I pretty much hate black tea chai and LOVE rooibos chai – you should give it a try 😉 (can’t tell if that was intentional or not!) Also roast beef in the bathroom is cracking me up!
birdie to be says
I love those boxes! Theyre fabulous!
Kaneil, The Ritts says
Had my first Great Harvest (Nashville) sandwich today and couldn’t help but think of you and Matt! A friend picked it up for me – and the only request I gave was turkey – so I’m not sure of the details, but it was deeeelish! So was the chocolate chip cookie. yum!
KathEats says
So glad you enjoyed it!!
Hannah says
I think it’s so good that you’ve both recognised the need for down-time, and to start implementing measures to counter stress and overwork this early on. You’ll surely avoid burn-out this way 🙂
Meredith says
I loooove your house & how it is decorated!! I was casually strolling (virtually) through the housing market and thought of you when I found these 🙂
I see a KERF office through the French doors!

So close to the bakery!

I hope you enjoy looking at the housing “eye candy” as much as I do! 🙂
KathEats says
I am very familiar with all of those!!! #2 is actually on open house this weekend – want to join me?
Meredith says
I would love to! Do you know if it’s open Saturday? I already have plans for Sunday morning/afternoon… Your schedule is probably a little less flexible on Sat with the bakery hours and all so just email me if you can meet up and we can plan a time 🙂
KathEats says
It is on Sunday, 1-3 🙁
Meredith says
Dang, I knew they were usually on Sundays. Well my plans could always change – if they do I’ll let ya know!
lynn @ the actor's diet says
my hubby and i like to work together, but are so much more productive when we’re apart – makes reuniting a lot nicer, too 🙂
rumfunandsun says
I can’t believe you still haven’t turned the air on!!! My husband would kill me if I did that even though I could definitely go a lot longer than him without the air.
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I love days off to clean and organize! Once I get going, I can be very productive. It’s such a good feeling to have it done!
Heather says
Did I miss something on the Great Harvest Mixes?

Annie@stronghealthyfit says
The boxes look great- love your mantle!
Heidi - apples under my bed says
Completely in love with your vintage boxes, lady!
Heidi xo
Jessica says
I love your counter tops so much! Do they need to be cared for differently than other typical kitchen surfaces?
KathEats says
I’m not really sure since we’re renting the house and weren’t given any specifics. I clean them just like I used to clean our granite – with a spray and cloth. I honestly don’t like them very much. Things tend to stick onto them – like label imprints and stuff – and I much prefer something more sleek.
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
Looks like you had a productive morning! 🙂
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I’m not really a fan of Twinnings Chai either. My favourite chai tea is Tazo, and I’ve never tried another one that tastes like it!
shannon says
I know that you are renting…but didn’t know if you painted the bedroom yourself and know the color? I am looking for a change and love this grey-ish color with the white trim….thanks!
Shannon
KathEats says
We didn’t paint, so I don’t know the color. Sorry!
lauri (redheadrecipes.com) says
No AC in July?! How do you survive? The temp here in SC ranges from 90-100 most days, so I think we would be pretty miserable with out the AC on… We keep it on 75 and I think that is hot sometimes!
Love your vintage boxes!
KathEats says
It’s really not that bad!
Patty says
For being leftovers it sure looked good!
