Rain rain, please do your thing and then go away quickly. I miss the sun!!
I can’t believe how lucky we’ve been with such a sunny summer. I’ve only had to drive to the bakery/gym a handful of times since we opened – and that’s a sign of how few rainy days we’ve had! So I’m not really complaining about the rain today, but I sure wish there were some round yellow suns in the forecast!
I went to Body Pump at 12:10 today – 2 hours later than normal. It’s an express class so they skipped biceps and triceps and cut 10 minutes of time. I feel that my bis and tris got quite a good workout regardless – thanks to about 26 pushups! I still got a good workout – my shoulders are aching already!
Drove down to the bakery – meet Ellen + Melanie, two new employees!! Today is Ellen’s first day and Melanie went to Davidson with us (although she’s my sister’s year). I need to get a photo of Morgan too – she’s our third newbie this month.
They’re working on a batch of ‘noler. [And to all you Opensky hopefuls, it should be arriving at your houses today or tomorrow]
By the time Pump was over and I had showered at the gym and drove the bakery, it was 1:30 and I was starving for lunch!
I brought a spinach salad from home with veggies and bleu cheese with a honey/olive oil dressing.
Plus a HLT – hummus, lettuce, tomato. Kept it simple!
Time to get to bizness.
Sarah @ Sarah's Modern Bites says
Honey + blue cheese = a match made in heaven! What a great flavor pairing salad 😀
I woke up to the rain here in Boston… It was actually super comforting and it made me want to stay in bed! I have been having to go to the gym to use the stationary bike because of my bum left leg haha so the rain hasn’t affected me too much. It was a super sunny summer to be grateful for! 😀
Khushboo says
Pushups hurt so good! I’m still doing the girly kind but I sure feel the burn!
Kristen, Sweetly says
That sounds more delicious than the not-at-all-bacon-flavored tofu on my TLT. Need hummus in my life again soon. And sunshine!!! It’s raining all week in Jersey, too.
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
Good news about the granola orders through OpenSky! Though my order status doesn’t even say that it has shipped yet… was definitely getting concerned.
The weather can’t seem to make up it’s mind here today… raining, sunny, raining sideways, sunny… I was actually hoping for a grey, rainy day! I’m only getting half of one.

Allie@LiveLaughEat says
Aww cute newbs!
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
woww all that granola baking everyday must make the kitchen fiery hot!
Meaghan O'Connor (My Spoonful of Inspiration) says
Yummy salad! I love the red, green and orange pops of color! 🙂
Shaya (Eye Girl Eats) says
HLT + avocado and sprouts = the bizness. But then, I would happily add avocado and sprouts to any sandwich to ratchet up the ‘yum’ factor!
I’d easily change weather forecasts with you– oh, to be able to walk to class without sweating! And be able to drink a hot beverage! Heaven 🙂
Stephanie @ StephSnacks says
Hummus, Lettuce, and Tomato – sounds simple but filling!
Hillary says
Know what? I hadn’t realized how sunny it’s been until you just pointed that out. I guess I can’t be complaining TOO much about the rain then ; )
Valerie @ City|Life|Eats says
I am watching it pour outside my office window and also missing summer.
Angela (Oh She Glows) says
We had the same hot and dry summer…and lots of rain end of July into August! I guess we’re catching up now..
Lindsay @ Lindsay's List says
Kinda fun to be in a business where you get new employees with changing seasons and school years. Hi newbies!
Elisabeth says
I’m missing summer already… it’s been cool/grey/rainy for 3 days here now (Ohio) & I want some sun back!
Lara @ TresLaLa says
Love the GH wrap paper as your place mat! Pretty sure I drooled a bit over today’s sando. Might have to run over to our GH to see what they’ve got for me today!
Meg says
HLT sounds so simple and delish. I wish the rain would go away too! It’s POURING here. Ugh!! Sunshine, we want you back 🙂
Kathryn @ Flopoodle says
A bakery seems like such a cozy place to spend a rainy day 🙂
Mom says
Hi New Employees!! I hope to meet you before too long!
Barbara, Kath’s mom
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
What a great lunch! It’s still gray outside here (no rain, thankfully) but definitely chilly! Stay dry this afternoon!
Hilary says
Not raining here, but most certainly gloomy! But it does make the back to school transition easier for teachers (such as myself).
Trainer Kjirsten @ Balanced Healhty Life says
It rained here a lot yesterday and I’m loving it! But then again we’ve had steady 95+ weather for 4 months straight now! Your lunch looks so tasty and refreshing! I love all the colors!
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
I would totally work for y’all. I bet y’all are a blast to work for.
That salad looks delicious. Did you buy those tomatoes or did you grow them? They look amazing!
KathEats says
They’re from the Local Food Hub
Angel7 says
For the past two days, it has looked like it was going to rain, but did not. It is pretty dreary here, and a bit on the chilly side outside. I need more sunshine before fall/winter comes in full swing–we need all the vitamin d from the sun that we can get before the cold front comes in to play!

J3nn(Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Love the way the red pepper logs on the salad. Makes it sassy. 🙂
Let’s send some rain vibes to Texas!
Meghan says
Yes, send that rain along to Texas! The wildfires in Central TX are truly devastating.
Lindsay @ bikingbeforebed says
Yes please! We are in the middle of the worst drought since 1917. And please hold all of those in central TX in your prayers.
Cathy says
Pray for rain in Texas. Wildfires are destroying lifes. 🙁
Cait's Plate says
Oh my – all that granola! I just want to crawl into those pans right now!
Love the “HLT” – I had the same except “hummus/lettuce/TURKEY” – such a good combo 🙂
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I am a fan of a simple salad and half sandwich for lunch. Just had one 🙂
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
We were spoiled all weekend with amazing weather — although sometimes I love a good rainy day.
Mel says
We’ve have had the most unusual summer here in the Pac NW! May, June, and July were absolutely horrible-cold, rainy, and overcast. August was fantastic (it usually is) and September is shaping up to be pretty good too. It’s supposed to be in the 80s all week-which is hot for us! I love it…I hope we have an Indian Summer. Some people are talking about changing the school months so we go through the end of June and start school in September, cause it’s not worth being outside in June!
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
We had a rainy Labor Day yesterday. It was beautiful for about 90 days straight and then a holiday shows up, and Mother Nature decided to rain yesterday. Of course. And it’s nice again today!
Rosa - Fitness, Food, Fulfilled says
Blue cheese is a recently acquired taste for me and I love it! It just pairs well with so many different foods.
I’m on the west coast and we’re still having summer weather, which is great. But our first 7 months were so rainy. I’m going to enjoy what sun we can get!
Jen says
Who hires employee’s and sets their schedules? Your responsibilities or GH?
KathEats says
We do. We make all of the decisions here.
jk says
Hopefully the granola’s will be arriving this week. I called Open Sky last week since it had
been a while and was told it would ship today. However, it still does not show that it has
shipped. The person I spoke with upgraded my shipping so maybe I will get it by the end
of the week.
We too, have had lots of rain in NW North Carolina. The river in front of my house is moving
on pretty fast.
The sandwich and salad look sooooo good!!!!
Heather @ Get Healthy with Heather says
Mmmm so much granola! Isnt it cool how your bis and tris get a great workout with pushups?!
Johanna B says
I envy your rain. We’re quite a bit behind for 2011. We have been blessed with cooler weather the last couple of days. High’s in the mid-seventies and lows in the upper forties. I LOVE it.
Sarah@The Flying ONION says
There’s rain here as well. Blah! I’m so over it already. 😀
Tami@nutmegnotebook says
I love to make my own granola, great way to control the calories and fat! I am going to try that hummus sandwich-looks amazing with some home grown tomatoes.
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
I do love the rain, but I’m wishing the same thing just so I can bike to the gym in a little bit. I’d really appreciate it not to rain!!
lynn @ the actor's diet says
HLT’s are such good sandwiches, i often forget!
Jeni @ hippiewildmama says
It’s so fun watching your business grow and flourish! Your employees always seem happy 🙂
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
I need a hummus sandwich…it’s been too long!
Namaste Gurl says
The sun and warm weather came to the west coast where it’s been COLD all summer.
Sorry to take your sun! 🙂
Hilliary @ Happily Ever Healthy says
I love a thick spread of hummus on sandwiches, especially if the hummus is super garlicky and full of flavor!
sarah@spinach&spice says
That would be such a cool Summer job! Man oh man, I need a GH in the area!
Gina @ running to the kitchen says
This summer really has been great weather wise but I wasn’t prepared for the rain and cold temps today by us! I’m secretly jealous of your new employees, what a fun job!
Molly @ RDexposed says
If hummus is wrong, I don’t want to be right!
Lisa (bakebikeblog) says
what a colourful salad! delish!
Margo @ Peanut Butter Trees says
I know I wish the rain would stop too! The little calendar view of weather doesn’t look good for the outlook 🙁 A beauty of a salad you’ve got there tho!
Hannah says
Oh, it must be so exciting for your American readers to be able to see the granola they’ve ordered being made 🙁
katie @KatieDid says
I’ve been lucky also using my bike as my main mode of transportation. But come this winter I’m not sure how it’s gonna work (I’m in Vermont). Did you find its still okay to ride when the roads are wet/ snowy? Or do you switch to your car for most of the winter?
KathEats says
I bike year round, but definitely not in snow. But remember you bike on roads not on the grass/sidewalks, so if the roads are clear for driving, they’re find for biking
Lolly says
I was wondering, since you eat so many vegetables, and often as your main course…have you ever used/experimented with a spiralizer? I suppose I could go find myself a raw vegan blog but thought I”d ask you first!
KathEats says
I used to have one but never used it so I gave it away. But I did use it a few times – it was fun with sweet potatoes!
Colonel Ebirt says
Hi Kath, You mentioned sun tea this weekend, but there was no working link on how to make it. Could you ever post a new link?! Thanks!
KathEats says
Here’s the link: http://paleorunnergirl.blogspot.com/2011/09/sun-tea.html
I used Sally Anne’s recipe
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
I don’t understand how your salads look better than anything I ever put together. lol Looks amazing!!
Emily says
Sounds like a great Pump class. I’m resting up tonight for tomorrows morning Power (pretty much same as Pump) class. It’s been a whole week and I should be feeling it!
Molly says

Jess says
Sorry, we in the southern hemisphere are having the sun now. Its our turn, after all 😛 Bye bye winter, helllllllllooooooo summer!!
sonya says
Will you move your vegetable garden to the new house? That’s probably the only tough thing about moving!
KathEats says
Unfortunately no – we’ll have to start from scratch!
