O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A!
We drove by a sign a few weeks ago announcing Oklahoma! was playing at our local high school this weekend. I decided we should go, as I love theater and musicals and don’t get to them much because of the cost. My parents used to take us to performances all the time when we were little and I miss it! We emailed our friends and bribed them with make-your-own pizza and dessert before and after the show.
I poured some wine for Kate, Amanda and Diana (and me!)
I couldn’t decide between beer or wine and after a few sips of my wine I passed it off to Matt and switched to beer!
Leftover from the fall and SO WORTH THE WAIT!
I dressed in cowgirl gear for the show!
Then we began pizza assembly with Matt’s whole wheat dough
My pie! With peppers, shrooms, cheese and 2 pepperoni
Into the oven
And back out!
I didn’t intend to eat the whole pizza because I wasn’t terribly hungry, but I did 🙂
Kate brought a salad: romaine, feta, sprouts, craisins, walnuts.
And Diana brought tomato + mozzarella stacks
Food is good. We were all silent when we started eating because we were busy chewing.
Then we drove over to the show.
Hi skool!
Kate + Diana
The boys were a little reluctant to go (ahem, Nate!) but they were great sports!!
Oklahoma! is one of my favorite musicals. I love the songs! This production was excellent. I loved all the costumes and it was all very impressive for a high school. My only criticism: it lasted three hours. That was a little long.
Back at home, we uncorked Amanda’s Blackberry Wine
And had Breyers Vanilla with GH Butterscotch cookies for dessert.
I’ve got a headache – perhaps a lack of coffee? That’s what it feels like. I’ve also got to get up super early tomorrow to meet Victoria to study Biochem all day long! I was able to get my protein sequencing project finished this afternoon and we did make it to the gym for 45 minutes of cardio.
Goodnight y’all

I LOVE HOMEMADE PIZZAS! Gah. I need to make one SOON. I love that you know exactly what’s going on it and you can put more/LESS cheese and MORE/less tomato sauce.
Also, dessert wine is such a treat! It’s like juice with a kick. Love it.

I was in a musical back in high school…ah the glory days (yeah, right!). In San Diego we have Junior Theater, which is what it sounds like…a theater and acting/singing/dancing school program for kids. I remember the shows being REALLY good. My family is so into theater that we had season tickets!
Diana says
Fun times! Awesome recap! 🙂

Yay for supporting the arts at your local high school!

We love the high school musical each spring even though we no longer know most of the kids. Small town, place to see and be seen! Homemade pizza is on the menu for Tuesday this week. Yeah!

I love musicals, but 3 hours?! Haha – that is a bit long.
I really need to try Matt’s whole wheat pizza dough – it’s been on my “to-make” list since he posted it.

I grew up going to plays/musicals too and enjoyed it!! As I grew older, I discovered (and a little surprised by) just how many people have NEVER been to a play or musical. But 3 hours?!? Yikes, that definitely is a little long.
Jessica says
Looks like a great night, the baked pizza crust had a nice rise and the show looks like fun!
Heather says
That sounds like such a fun night! But, wow, 3 HOURS!? That’s a little bit crazy for a high school play. Glad you enjoyed your night though! That pizza looks so yummy and healthy!

I LOVE Oklahoma! It was one of the first musicals I ever did (I was Ado Annie) and it has a special place in my heart because of that.
3 hours is a long time, but I’m sure it was still a lot of fun!
Pizzas looked incredibly yummy. Sounds like a really fun night 🙂

I love OKLAHOMA too. I sing it all the time, my boyfriend is rarely amused…
LK- Healthy Delcious says
those pizzas look great, and black berry wine sounds fab!
high school musicals can be a great deal if the school has a good theater department. I went to a production of Les Mis last year that literally brought me to tears (dare I say it was better than when I saw it on Broadway?)… I was so disappointed to find out that this Spring their production was actually high school musical though. I’ll pass on that one.
BethT says
I love Oklahoma! too, but it’s funny – I saw a professional production of Wicked last night and even THAT wasn’t 3 hours 🙂
Emily says
Looks like a fun night with great eats and entertainment!
It’s so neat that you love musicals! I’ve also been a theatre fan since I was little, and I was just in Sound of Music and Cinderella! Musical theatre keeps me sane while I’m in grad school! 🙂

I love musicals too! My high school had an amazing drama program and competed Nationally, so I was spoiled by “cheap” entertainment! That’s very cool to support a local HS too- even better that the show was good! Great lookin’ pizza too!
Vince says
You wouldn’t have had to ask me twice. Musical theatre and home-made pizza… I’m there!
Kudos to the group of you for going out and supporting high school performance arts.

Your pizza and salad look amazing! It sounds like a fun night out.
Laur says
Pizza looks great, but I have to ask, is that soppressata on the pizza and not pepperoni?
Kath says
Laur ,
You’re right! It wasn’t pepperoni – I just called it that for ease and because I couldn’t spell soppressata 🙂

I just came across your website last night. I love it!!
I had to say that seeing your pics of the homemade pizza sent me to the store today. I decided that your pizza looked soooo good that I absolutley HAD to make my own.
(I am currently pregnant, so once something looks and sounds good, that’s it. I’ll go nuts until I have it. I have been in a pizza fetish anyway.) 😉
