Guys, I can’t thank you enough for your comments, emails and words of encouragement on my post Friday. I read every word of every comment and feel so loved and supported. That’s all I could ever ask for going through something like this, so I’m giving you all a virtual hug back. Mwah! (I also listened to Jess Lively’s podcast at your recommendation and loved it! Can’t wait to listen to more of her shows.)
Friday Mazen and I drove down to Bald Head to spend a few days here with my parents and celebrate my mom’s birthday. We were hoping for balmy temps and sunshine, but we’ve been stuck inside with some chilly weather and rain. But our first night was beautiful!
We went to the Peli for pizza, salad and beer for a casual dinner.
We’re staying at the Marsh Harbor Inn as we always do, but I’m in a different suite then I’ve been in the past. Mazen has slept in the bunk room in my parents’ room for the past few nights, so I’ve had this glorious room all to myself!
Saturday morning I had fruit, eggs and coffee for breakfast
We didn’t do much at all on Saturday, which was our goal! I had leftover pizza for lunch – nothing more nothing less!
We walked to the Riverside shop and took Mazen out to the beach. I went for a run for about 45 minutes, but I don’t really know how far I covered. My Apple Health said I’d done about 7 miles at the end of the day, but I have no idea if that’s accurate or not!
We dressed up and headed to the Shoal’s Club for dinner. They have a new restaurant with a seafood-heavy menu. I just love how gorgeous it is on the point!
Flashbacks to my sister’s wedding!
We drank some delicious Zin –
Played monster games –
Shared a kale and crab salad –
And enjoyed Mahi Mahi with fennel and a spicy sweet potato cake –
Back at the inn, we sang happy birthday to my mom!! I brought this cookie-dough filled cake all the way from Sweethaus! Go big or go home.
Sunday morning we had brunch plans, so I had a light breakfast of hard-boiled eggs and fruit to tide me over-
I got in a little work. Work with a view!
It was drizzling rain and freezing cold. I tried to take a walk at one point and came right back inside, as I didn’t bring any warm clothes with me! Warm first day of spring it was not.
We went to the Club for brunch with none other than the famous CEO of Great Harvest, Mike, and his wife, Eadie, who have been coming to the island for decades like us. I consider Mike a good friend whom I hope to keep in touch with long after we move on from the Great Harvest network. It was such a fun coincidence that they were here the same time as us.
Brunch was delicious! I had a veggie omelet, a roasted quinoa dish, bacon, grits, broccolini and half a pancake.
I decided to get a slice of Toasted Coconut Cake at the last minute and am so glad I did – this totally exceeded expectations!! #vacationmode 🙂
Hope you guys had a great weekend too!

Hi kath, I truly appreciated your honest post on Friday 🙂 a couple years from now, this difficult time will just be a blur in your mind…time does heal. Are you planning to go back to work as an RD or just work on the blog? It’s kind of exciting cross road path girl you 🙂
KathEats says
“Just” work on the blog 🙂 Things are going well online, so I don’t intend to change that right now! : )

Ahh Edmeades!! That is one of my top 5 all-time wines. I first had it working at a restaurant in college then randomly found it about 5 years later and fell in love all over again. It’s hard to find up in the Northeast (I’m in PA) so whenever I do I buy like a case haha Looks like a lovely time in Bald Head!

You deserve that get-away, and I’m sure that helped your parents, too, to spend some time with you, and see for themselves that you are ‘going to be okay’. Not to mention your need to hear that same thing FROM them! You look radiant in your pictures, though I’m sure you’ve felt better about yourself. Keep your chin up and keep pressing on. I found that prayer never hurts either in dark times such as these. Thinking of you, and I’ll be praying for you and your family, Kath.

Happy Birthday to your mom! She looks great. She doesn’t seem old enough to be your mom! Hope you all are having a great trip 🙂

Hi. Glad you are enjoying your vacation. Just to let you know, you shared two pictures twice in this post. The one of your Zinfandel wine, and also your Davidson shirt selfie. Hee hee!
KathEats says
I just re-read the post and see them only once! Could that be a computer glitch?
Mary says
I don’t think so. I’m viewing from an iPhone, with safari as my browser. The both show up twice!

Long time reader, first time comment-er. Just wanted to say I am sorry you’re going through this. I’ve been there, and it’s tough. But you’ll make it through. You have a great blog and tons of people who love it and many who are rooting for you. Pretty fantastic that you were able to get away and have a great weekend with family. That cake photo though… Now it’s all I can think about!
