Hello oats-in-a-mug!!!
Complete with hidden treasures…
The Mix
- 1/4 cup oats
- 1/8 cup 10 Grain Hot Cereal
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 banana
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- Cinnamon, salt, vanilla
- Maranatha Dark Choco AB
- Galaxy Granola Cranberry Orange
I was a little heavy handed on the chia seeds this morning – for the better!! And the Maranatha Chocolate Almond Butter was an absolute pleasure to stumble upon
Also was heavy handed on the Galaxy Granola – and enjoyed every last crunch!
Today’s tea was Coconut Kava Cream by Tiger Wing. Again, I was hoping for an amazing experience, but I found it to be very yerba mate tasting and not too heavy on the coconut or the cream :( Guess they weren’t too heavy handed on those. The best coconut tea I have ever consumed is the Gypsy Coconut Chai.
This oatmeal "bowl" was ENDLESS. It just kept coming!!
I was supposed to do some yoga this morning but was totally lazy in my bed…zzzzz…

Hhaah love the bowl! You’re so creative 😀
Have a good Friday!
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
The mug looks so skinny I don’t know how I’d be able to get a spoon in there! I don’t like tea but that flavor sounds delish.
sarah @ syrupandhoney says
Aww I’m glad the oatmeal felt endless! I’m always so sad when I get to the end of my bowl 🙂
Diana says
Ahah that “bowl” is awesome. Haven’t eaten oats since last week but I do have some ripe bananas to use. I see oatmeal in my weekend! 🙂
Have a great friday Kath!
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says

Deva (Voracious Vorilee) says
I love how you layered the oats – – they look soo good! I was supposed to go lift weights today, but decided that my body needed a rest. I tend to do exercise 3 days on, 1 day off so I don’t get burnt out (and to give all of my muscles one day of active recovery – I do a lot of walking!).
Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) says
Great mix of flavors but wasn’t it hard to mix in a tall mug like that? I like a little bit of every ingredient in each bite.
Kath says
Not sure what you mean? I have a long spoon!
Daniel says
I’m loving the oats in a mug look, that’s pretty awesome!
How long do your oats stay warm? Whenever I go to photo my breakfast and get it all done with they’re usually cold again and require heating at least twice during the time it takes me to eat it! Just curious if you reheat or if you don’t mind it slightly chilled 😮
Kath says
They are always warm on the inside!
Lauren @ eater not a runner says
That looks so yummy! Love the layers 🙂
Kori & Kaci says
It all looks delicious! Enjoy your Friday!!!

Good Morning-May I make a suggestion? You are very creative and have a great deal of knowledge from your studies, and experiences, would you ever consider taking your blog in a new direction? Maybe giving a thought or tip for the day, or a discussion on a topic that is in the news?
Kath says
Sorry Cindy, this is a food + lifestyle blog. And I’m in the middle of an intense dietetic internship! I do think we’ve had some good discussions lately on running, swimming, and the like.
Veggielady4life says
Your oats look ‘elicious! I love the idea of putting them in a tall mug!!
Kelly says
Kath, please share where you got your spoon (the one you ate your yogurt with at the end)! I love it!
Whitney @ Whitinspired says
Gosh that tea flavor sounds so good…too bad it didn’t live up to the hype! I love your hidden treasure oats…I would love stumbling upon the chocolate ab too!
Lauren says
My husband and I love oatmeal, but to you we’d probably be oatmeal heathens since we usually buy Quaker instant in any of their flavors. I’ve decided to take a stand this weekend and make REAL oatmeal in one of your flavors. I’ll probably write a blog about it at some point this weekend and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the inspiration.
Meg @ Be Fit Be Full says
Happy Friday! No coffee shapes this morning? Boo… Just joking 🙂

Paige (Two Runners And A Brown Dog) says
Mmm…that mug of oatmeal is making me SOOOO hungry!
Wei-Wei says
Loving the oats in a mug! The good thing about a tall container is that it takes longer for you to savor your food, I guess. That’s good, more time to savor the goodness! 😉
Happy Friday! 😀
Wei-Wei

Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] says
Oats are so much more fun to eat out of a mug!
Marci says
Your oats look delicious, and they are so popular on the food blogs I read. But how many calories do you think are in that breakfast? I love oats, and know the peanut butter, oats, chia, milk, banana, are all good calories, but what does it really add up to? And is it not too much?
Kath says
My oatmeals are usually about 500 calories – what I need to get going for the day!
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
I love hidden pockets of flavor in foods. That’s what happens when I make overnight oats with crofters and almond butter to take with me.
zoe says
isn’t that dark chocolate almond butter AMAZING?!?! i ate it waaay too quickly when i bought it and, frankly, i’m just too afraid to buy it again and risk having a repeat of “magically disappearing” delicious almond butter haha 😉 and eating out of a non-bowl is super fun! have a good friday 🙂
Teri [a foodie stays fit] says
oh my gosh, wasn’t it a pain to eat out of that tall glass?? I think i would make a total mess…but I’m messy anyway. 🙂
Kath says
Not with a long spoon!
Annie@stronghealthyfit says

I love the oatmeal in a mug, all the layers of deliciousness with each layer bringing something different.
Wendy says
I was going to do yoga this morning, but wound up lazing in bed just like you. Cloudy, rainy mornings are made for snuggling in bed. 🙂
Ashley says
You know how much I love oatmeal in a mug!!! Love that it’s heavily chia studded…looks like a winner to me! 🙂
Hannah says
Hi Kath! I have a bit of a question and I feel silly because I’m sure you’ve covered it and I’m a regular reader, but I’m just wondering when you add the chia seeds during the cooking of your oatmeal? I’ve looked at your Tribute page and while you list chia seedsin the ingredients of the Whipped Banana basic recipe, I can’t see in the method when the chia seeds go in. Do you add them after cooking and let it sit a bit?
Woudl really appreciate the answer – I just bought a bag of chia today, you see, and am super excited to make chia oatmeal tonight! (house sitting = breakfast for dinner :P)
Kath says
Sorry – they’re added at the beginning!!
Linda says
I bought the chocolate almond spread & love it on my oats too! but does it need to go in the ref. or can it stay on the shelf to keep it at a scoopable consistancy? their web site email link wasn’t working for me.
Kath says
I keep mine in the cabinet
Gretchen says
I have turned into a complete oatmeal addict because of this blog! 🙂
Julie @savvyeats says
