I really can’t remember heat like this in my life. There are very, very few days of the year that I don’t want to go outside and this is most definitely one of them! Our family discussed going on a hike, but I went on a 15 minute walk to a pool and back to inquire about membership and the walk was unbearable (especially the uphill return!) And unfortunately the pool had a LINE out the door of people waiting to get in because it was at max capacity. I can’t imagine waiting in this heat just to be allowed inside to swim. I guess this is why people build pools in their backyards : )
Thus, I’m kind of giving up on exercise today. Other options: the gym or a DVD. I don’t really want to drive to the gym, and walking isn’t going to happen until after sunset when the gym is closed. I could do a DVD, but I think I’m just going to take the day off and start anew tomorrow. Maybe I will go for a walk at dusk!
Karen had PB&J for lunch and that kicked in a craving for me, so I had one too. This sandwich is a wedge because I am terrible at slicing bread and always cut on a diagonal. Matt made me correct my error by eating my slices in the shape I “ruined” the loaf with
This was homemade strawberry jam by our Great Harvest friends Ginger and David – delish! On the side I had leftovers. Greens, shrimp and corn.
Showertime!

I waited until the sunset to go for a jog yesterday, it was muggy but bearable.

SO hot!! I can’t believe I’m still alive after 8 miles out there. Currently drowning myself in smoothies.

Last week in TX we had 100* plus every day. Today it’s 82* right now, which is odd. How hot is it there?
KathEats says
100! 82* sounds niiice
Gretchen says
It was almost cold last night! Our high today is 90!
Amanda says
Went to hot yoga this morning … leaving the studio made it feel cool outside! Crazy! Have a great Sunday 🙂
Jordan @ Bake Write Sleep says
I’ve always wanted to try that… I might get around to it once it get cooler. 100* weather + Florida humidity SUCKS. Not really the type of weather to put you in the mood for more heat ;]

This is when treadmills are a lifesaver!
Carly says
Mmm. PB&J! Such a remembered flavor. Plus, that bread looks incredible. So much better than the Oroweat Country Potato bread of my childhood :-).
Roxanne says
It’s okay to skip a day!
lynn @ the actor's diet says

There are still lot of people without power (I know Carrsbrook, Still Meadow, lots of Crozet and Ivy, Earlysville, and probably Scottsville), so the pool or the Key Rec center are the places to be today. I’m so grateful our power came back yesterday around 1.
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
You should have turned the top slice 180 degrees so it turned out a flat sandwich!
KathEats says
Haha. Didn’t think of that!
Denise says
I was going to say the same thing!
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
The heat you describe…I swear to god the summer I was pregnant San Diego had record-breaking heat and we were living in a 1920s mission revival with no a/c. I was so.incredibly.miserable. Pregnant or not, hot is hot. Stay cool and don’t overdo it, Kath!
jen says
yep. sounds like texas weather. l think the highest was 109 last week here in austin but 100-103 is pretty standard for the summer here. i am never happy to see the summer come around 🙁
Angel7 says
Maybe next year you & Matt can put a pool in your backyard 🙂

Ha. That’s too funny. That’s not such a horrible punishment for “ruining” something! 🙂 Looks amazing.
Allison K says
I can’t imagine 100 plus humidity. I know I should never say never, but that is why I’m never moving east of the Dakotas.
Emily M. says
this insane heat + crazy wind storm is very apocalyptic! haha. but that looks like the perfect hot day lunch! i need to learn to make my own jams.
Teri [a foodie stays fit] says
ugh, seriously this weather is killing me. Nothing has sounded good to eat either…until i saw that shrimp. 🙂 I know what i’m having for dinner now!
Julie says
It’s pretty hot here in NY too (93*) and a day off can be such a nice treat!
Emily @ Life on Food says
PB&J sounds delish right now. Too bad I don’t have any of that yummy bread. That totally makes the sandwich.
Lindsay @ Lindsay's List says
Are we still on for lunch next Wednesday?? I can’t wait!
KathEats says
Yup!
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
That diagonal pb&j looks SO good! I never mind the diagonal because it always means later I have to go back to the bread to “fix” it. haha!
kristen @ verbs and vignettes says
I was a FISH in the pool at our campground growing up. but there were never more than 20 people or so enjoying it.
I certainly enjoyed the pool at my parents’ house today. 🙂 we just got it put in three years ago, maybe. LOVELY for a pre-dinner float.
Grace @ Grace Dishes says
The heat definitely gets in the way of exercising outdoors! Food looks yummy~
Sarah @ Learning to Feed Yourself says
That bread looks amazing (even though it is funny shaped! ha). I seriously wish we lived closer to a Great Harvest because you’re bread always looks delicious!
Amanda @flecksofgreen says
Yum! Apparently I haven’t had my fill of shrimp lately because I am totally in the mood now 🙂
Alyssa (pb and oats) says
I cut at a diagonal too! Especially with cucumbers and tomatoes.

It was 104 and 102 on Thursday & Friday here in Ohio! It has cooled off some this weekend because of the storms. It is currently only 77 🙂
Erin says
I, for one, think that wedge sandwich looks fantastic! 🙂
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
Oh my gosh…I have the same slicing problem! Homemade strawberry jam is now the only strawberry jam my boys will eat…made a huge batch from the strawberries I picked this year. Yummy!
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
I kind of like your angled sandwich! It tastes good which is all that matters!
Lexi @ You, Me, & A World to See says
Yup, it was something crazy like 102 in DC! I have never been that hot in my life 😎
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I took a day off yesterday because of the heat too – it was unbearable here! Hopefully today is cooler for both of us.
Dannii @ Hungry Healthy Happy says
As much as we complain about the weather here in the UK, we are lucky that we don’t have to suffer in the heat like it sounds like you guys have over there. It is currently grey, rainy and cold here. Yay for British summer!
jo @ includingcake says
you guys all talking about heat makes me feel a bit sad….it’s only 61F here in the uk…and they call this summer!! I’m still eating soup for lunch and drinking hot chocolates ;-(
