It’s been a while since I opened this jar of Justin’s Chocolate Hazelnut Butter – August to be precise. (And I’ve had it in my pantry for even longer – a sample from Justin himself!)
Every time I think about chocolate for breakfast I pass – it just doesn’t hit my cravings at that time of day.
But every time I eat this stuff, I am reminded how amazing it is!
Today was the grand finale with oats in a jar
Amped up with coconut and pretzel!! Two fabulous chocolate combos
The Mix
- 1/4 cup oat bran
- 1/4 cup oats
- Milk, water, half banana, pinch salt, vanilla, cinnamon
- ~5 crushed pretzels
- 2 tbsp sweetened coconut
- And that delicious creamy choco hazelnut!
And now that it’s gone, I want more!
I’m writing up my recipe this morning and have multiple dates for the afternoon.
Joy!
Freya (Brit Chick Runs) says
Baah I was ever so slightly disappointed by the chocolate Justin’s 🙁 I got SO excited when i was in the states, and stocked up on squeezy packs (jars too heavy) – yet I’ve had one, and am very meh about the rest 🙁 SO sad!
Have a fab day 🙂
Michele @ Healthy Cultivations says
I love the idea of adding pretzels. It kind of makes it like a candy bar in a jar!
Christine says
Yeah pretzels are a new one (at least I can’t remember seeing it before)! WIth chcocolate the sounds a-mazing!
Amalfi Girl (EatRunHaveFun.blogspot) says
I just got Justin’s chocolate peanut butter in the mail. I’m definitely thinking about ordering the hazelnut variety (nutella is an old favorite of mine)!

I had OIAJ this morning too – i always get so sad when there’s no more peanut butter!
Amy at TheSceneFromMe says
Yum! That is a great addition, pretzels. Who would have thought to add them to breakfast, but you!
Enjoy Wednesday 🙂
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
I love the pretzel addition on top! I used to hate the sweet and salty mix but now i can’t get enough of it!

Julie (Food & Other Things) says
I never thought of pretzels as a topping for oats, but it sounds delicious!
Michelle @ Turning Over a New Leaf says
I’m pretty sure the best oatmeal I’ve ever had was overnight oats in a Nutella jar (with just banana, yogurt, milk, oats, and topped with a little granola). I’m salivating at the thought!
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
that’s genius to add pretzels! seriously, if you had a breakfast restaurant i would eat there all the time 🙂
Emily says
Chocolate always makes breakfast seem more decadent 🙂 I love the idea of adding the pretzels, too!
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
Oooh, I love this idea! Chocolate-covered pretzels are one of my real weaknesses.
ali says
Hi Kath,
Your breakfasts are so plentiful sometimes. Today’s, yesterday’s. I wonder how many calories are in your breakfasts. Just seems like ALOT to me.
Kath says
This was probably 450 calories? 1/4 of my daily needs.
Allison @ Happy Tales says
That looks delicious! I’m with you though, I usually can’t eat sweet stuff like chocolate (even if it is a nutbutter!) for a breakfast. My stomach is just not ready for it. Also, did you mosaic that table you took pictures on yourself? It is GORGEOUS!
Kath says
Thanks! It was a gift to my mom
ariel says
Love this! I always want to make oats in a jar but I always forget to do until after I scrape the inside of my jar haha. Justins maple almond butter is AMAZINGGG I got a couple sample pack of his other nut butters, I’m saving the hazelnut butter for a special occasion 🙂
Kara says
Your breakfast reminded me of how much I love to dip pretzels in Nutella! Mmmmmm
Lauren at KeepItSweet says
pretzels on top of chocolatey oats? genius!
Natalia - a side of simple says
Justin’s Chocolate Hazelnut Butter is top on my list of nut butters to try! Nuttzo is probably the very first… perhaps an endeavor for some Christmas money?
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
I eye that Choco/Hazelnut butter everytime I go to Earthfare. I have never tried it (they don’t carry it in the squeezy pack there), but loooove Nutella (but don’t eat it anymore), so I am certain I would love this too. The only think that has stopped me from buying it is the $10.99 price tag. But, that might have to change. Soon. 🙂

Adding pretzels to oatmeal might be a pretty genius breakfast idea! I’m thinking the soft and warm of the oatmeal with crunchy and salty pretzels could be delicious.
Cathy B. @ Bright Bakes says
you had me at the pretzel and chocolate combo! love…
cathy b. @ brightbakes
Rachel @ The Avid Appetite says
LOVE the idea of adding coconut and pretzels!! Just a question – what’s up with the oats in jar? I’ve seen this everywhere. Is it cooked differently in the jar, or is it just a fun way to eat them? (Either way is good for me! 🙂 )
Kath says
It’s all about scraping out the leftover nut butters
Sunya says
And it works great. I tried it for the first time this morning and the hot oatmeal just melted the peanut butter. I love that I feel I got every last drop from the jar by the time I got to the bottom. Great idea!
Sunya says
Oh I did hot this time. I am doing overnight next time I am near the bottom. 🙂
Mimi says
I’ve had some individual packets of Justin’s chocolate hazelnut butter. O-M-G. Is there anything that it doesn’t pair well with?
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Oh man, what an awesome combo!!!! Sweet + salty = HEAVEN
Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) says
Multiple dates? Oh can’t wait to hear more 🙂
chococlate + nut butter = delish!
Dorry says
Good call with the pretzels! I love the salty sweet combo.
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
That’s my favorite flavored nut butter, hands down. It’s like Nutella, but with more texture and real flavor. LOVE it!!
Kelly says
Sweet + salty is the best, isn’t it? I actually crave chocolate in the morning and every other moment of the day, for that matter.
Leslie humiston says
Ok I have an almost empty jar of justin’s almond butter and would love to try oats in a jar! My big question.. Do you eat them cold after they are in the fridge all night??
Kath says
Well there are many varieties of OIAJ
One version is hot. You make oats on the stovetop as usual and pour them into the jar when they are done (if it’s a plastic jar, let cool for a few minutes first). The nut butter melts into the oatmeal.
The other version is overnight. You put oats, milk, yogurt, banana, etc into a jar and put in fridge overnight. This is my favorite version of OIAJ because the sticky doughy oats make eating the sticky nut butter more fun in my mouth!
Heather says
I have some chocolate soy nut butter in my cabinet – I may add some pretzels to my next bowl of oats. Chocolate and pretzels is an amazing combo!
Good luck with your recipe writing. Enjoy your afternoon!
Chelsea @ Strawberry Sweat says
OH the pretzel idea is genius! I’ll have to try that in my morning oatmeal sometime!
Jil @ Big City, Lil Kitchen says

i don’t really buy the flavored pb’s either but when i do have a sample, i love it!
Madeline says
That combo of chocolate+coconut+pretzels looks amazing! I am definitely going to try soon!
Laura @ Backstage Pass says
Okay, I am literally drooling. What a fab combo for breakfast! Anyone who says oatmeal every day is boring, should simply eat this and be silenced 🙂
Juliet says
I love Justin’s! I have no idea where this company came from but suddenly I’m seeing the individual packets everywhere. Though when I think hazelnut I automatically think Nutella….
This is kind of funny. I gave my fourth grader a packet of Justin’s and an apple as part of her lunch one day, figuring it would be fun for her to spread the peanut butter on the apple (if I recall it was the honey peanut butter variety.) Well, I got a note home saying the plastic knife (picnic type) I sent with her is not allowed because it could be a weapon! There is apparently NO type of spreading tool acceptable at her school. They only allow food that can be eaten with spoons and she told me she doesn’t want to spread her PB with a spoon. Funny, huh? So now I pre-spread for her and wrap it in foil.
Maryann says
You just put my breakfast to shame. Coconut, pretzels AND chocolate?? So jealous!
Allie says
Pretzels + chocolate for breakfast = genius! I never think of chocolate for breakfast unless I have nutella 🙂 MMMMM! Now I want a piece of toast with nutella and banana haha. Have a good day!
Justeen @ Blissful Baking says
ohhh i love hazelnuts! mm
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
Chocolate-hazelnut OIAJ is the greatest of all breakfasts. The OIAJ I did in a Nutella jar around Crhistmas was basically a present. 🙂
Christin@purplebirdblog says
That hazelnut butter is like frosting! And I too often do not want chocolate in the morning. The pretzels are a freakin’ genius addition!
Katherine: Unemployed says
brilliant combo! I’m not so into coconut but pretzels and chocolate hazelnut?? wonderful

Alaina @ The Jogging Concierge says
Pretzels and chocolate/peanut butter has to be my favorite combination EVER. Some people have a sweet tooth; I have a salty tooth. 🙂

since im a huge lover of oatmeal, almond butters, chocolates, jams and coconuts – i opt to usually have oatmeal for dinner. this way, i can have extras of everything and just tell my self it’s dinner and dessert all in one!

Pretzels sound like an amazing oatmeal topper!

I love hazelnuts and chocolate. They are an excellent combo. I haven’t ventured out really to try these other products. Did you find it at Trader Joe’s?
