We had a great time at the movie with Karen. Valkyrie was actually really good (and I don’t like action/war movies). Well, it was really good until the end – and if you know how WWII ended then you know what happens. It was such a downer! But in the first 80% of the 2 hours, a really good movie.
We took some snacks to the movie – some trail mix and a Z-bar for me if I needed them and a bag of spicy popcorn that we got last Christmas for the husband. I had about 1.5 cups of the popcorn and about 2 tbsp of the trail mix –
We came home and pittered around on our computers this afternoon. If you see some changes on the blog – wacky themes or layouts – don’t panic!! I am playing around a bit with themes, but I promise I won’t do anything extreme or too busy and if I do end up sticking with a theme, I’ll make it as familiar as possible with fonts, colors, etc. as soon as I can. My hope is to eventually find a new layout that would allow me to built a more user friendly recipe section and use more of my photos on the homepage – rather than hiding them in the Tribute To Oats page! It might end up a little busier, but I hope also more beautiful and user friendly. Feedback (nicely stated!) is always welcome.
I was hungry for lunch around 4:30 so I had a small hummus + red pepper sandwich –
Along with a bowl of green yogurt + pumpkin butter + crumbled egg nog scuffin
And tea
Michelle + Ben arrived around 7:15 and we all headed up town to Pewter Rose for a feast. Thank you so much guys for treating us with the gift certificate! We decided the best way to approach dinner was to get a bunch of small plates to share. They were all fantastic!!
I started with a glass of Petit Syrah –
We started with appetizers: calamari (with amazing lemon tarter sauce and olive pesto) and the hummus plate, which I forgot to take a photo of but it looks like the one I had this day: Look Ma, No Fuel!
My appetizer plate:
Then we had our “main courses”: Mussels in garlic white wine herb broth, eggplant cigars (fried), and shrimp quesadillas.
My plate (shared bread and eggplant with husband) – plus 1 quesadilla triangle. I also shared a few big gulps of this Red Oak with him, one of my favorite beers!
Then came our cheese course – honey + nut baked brie with homemade crackers!! The husband and I shared about a third of this – I had 2-3 big bites of brie on cracker.
And before we could pass it up, there were two desserts to finish off our meal – Quatro Leches Cake and a Chococlate Truffle.
Our shares – plus a bite more of the leches, which was exceptional! The icing was marshmallow!!
After all of that, I am as the Okinawans say: Hara hachi bu – “80% full.” Today was a perfect example of intuitive eating for me. I felt like I ate everything I wanted in portions that satisfied without overdoing it. (Well, the brie was a bit much 😉 )
What a fun day filled with friends!!
Tomorrow we have zero plans. Well actually I have some plans, but nothing obligatory:
- Sleeping in
- Morning yoga
- Oatmeal + coffee
- Fun times
- CardioFunk in the evening
See y’all then!

Baked brie is delicious – and super-easy to make. Just put a round on a big sheet of puff pastry, top with some fruit preserves, dried fruit, nuts, etc, and bake until golden. If I hadn’t been there, my boyfriend probably would have picked this up and eaten it like a big cheesy burger.

I’m glad you said you liked the movie…I’ve been reluctant to see it but my boyfriend wants to. I hate movie with downer endings, though!

Kath,
These last two posts have been good ones! I’ve become a stranger on your comments, but I’m still reading daily. I was just reminded of how much I do enjoy reading. Plus, I’ve ben dying to try those spooky kids Cliff Bars. Are they still selling them in stores? Have a happy new year!

I own it and have read parts of it, but I do think I need to re-read it soon.
Hi Sami !,
I don’t know about the Z-bars these days, but I saw the Spooky ones at Trader Joe’s in the fall.

That baked brie sounds so good, I have done the preserves thing as well as a roasted garlic one, but honey & nuts, I think I will have to try that!
