Today would be a good day to go into labor.
Also a good day for a birthday.
Still patiently waiting for some action!
Matt promised me blueberry pancakes for breakfast! Made with our Great Harvest whole grain mix [available here now in a breakfast bundle, FYI], fresh blueberries, and Sarah’s gingerbread nutty butter : ) Hot maple syrup and peaches on the side.
The birthday sprinkles are wishful thinking!
We also had coffee – half caf for Matt, half decaf for me. Frothed milk on top with my IKEA frother.
Mad Men episode #4 was good! The show is a mix of Sex and the City and The Office – back in time. Loving it! It’s a rainy day again and Matt is home for the holiday, so I foresee a few more episodes on our future. I love watching TV on Netflix! Although nothing will ever compare to the epic LOST marathon of the first trimester : )

laboring on labor day would be memorable!….i remember being oh so close on labor day hoping for the same…enjoy movie day!
KathEats says
Even going into labor today would be exciting!
Erin Motz says
Aww, totally thought that title meant it was “time!” 😉 Crossing my fingers for you!
Annette @FitnessPerks says
I sure hope Labor day takes on a special meaning for ya! 😉
Brie @ Impatient Baker says
I watched Mad Men until about episode 4 and then lost interest. Maybe I’ll try again… and I also really want to get into Breaking Bad, which all of my friends are raving about! Best wishes for your “labor” day (in whatever context it occurs 😉 )
Brittany says
I’m excited to try Sarah’s gingerbread nutty butter! Sounds delish.
Angel7 says
I think the baby likes the climate of your belly 🙂 At least that is what I think about the baby in my belly.
I love the show The Office!!! Steve Carell makes me laugh really hard! He is hilarious!

Kelsey says
Ooh, I hope the birthday sprinkles work today!
Leah says
Hey Kath, I have a question about different nut butters. (I just bought sunflower butter and it. is. so. good!) Is one type of nut/seed butter better nutritionally? (I’m really thinking between peanut butter, almond butter, and sunbutter…) In terms of protein/healthy fat? Thanks!
KathEats says
I consider them all to be very comparable, so take your pick!
tlm says
there’s a house hunters marathon on today too!
KathEats says
Oh fun! I will have to see if there’s an episode that I haven’t seen!
Andrea says
Those pancakes look delicious… and the sprinkles so appropriate 🙂 It’s so great that you are being patient with your baby. I really believe that even though there are “due dates” and all that, the baby will come at the right time! And hey- I have a question about your peach doughboy smoothie. What could I substitute for the yogurt?
KathEats says
Hmmm…maybe just a little more milk? Do you eat cottage cheese? That would work too. Or if you don’t do dairy, a coconut milk yogurt.
Andrea says
Ok, thank you. I’ll have to try it out! I love both yogurt and cottage cheese, but am not currently eating dairy. Soon though I hope! Have a great day!
Christina says
Kath- I keep meaning to ask you the name/brand of the raspberry tea you like so much?
Enjoy the day!
KathEats says
It’s the Traditional Medicinals brand – the one that is all over the shelves with those medicinal style teas
lulu says
I’ve watched a lot of Madmen. I found it to be a great show but I don’t think it’s anything like Sex and the City or The Office. Madmen is about strict social rules and personal conflict and conflict with an oppressive society. It’s not humorous – it’s intense because you see how hard it must have been for the generations before us to be able to follow their own interests and pursue their own goals. When I watched it I saw men and women trapped by all sorts of social restrictions. I’m in a very, very male dominated profession and am still surprised by the amount of blatant sexism that still dominates my field – perhaps that’s why Madmen has been such a special show for me.
Best of luck with your pregnancy! I was almost a week past my due date with my second kid and I was not relaxed about it at all! I ended up having an AMAZING (and fast) labor and delivery once he was ready to be born though! Hopefully you can find lots of relaxing time in these last few hours/days.
KathEats says
I wasn’t trying to play down the serious aspects… Just that it reminds me of those two shows.
faith says
Well, lets all give Kath some suggestions that will “speed along ” labor….take a long walk, get a birthing ball, squatting, spicy foods, and SEX!! But ultimately the baby will come when he is ready!!
Donna says
Hi, long time reader, first time commenter here. I find myself checking in repeatedly to see if you’ve gone into labor and am remembering being overdue with my first two (now 24 and 21)- third one was born on her due date! I just kept thinking, I don’t want my water to break in the checkout line at the grocery store! Hang in there.
kim@hungryhealthygirl says
Labor day would be the perfect day to labor and it’s my sister’s b-day!! A wonderful day for a b-day; I’m sure you would agree. How sweet for your husband to make blueberry pancakes and they look delicious!
Brandy says
Wishing you a happy LABOR day! I’ve been reading and hoping that you’ve gone into labor… it must be tough waiting through these last few days! Good luck!
(PS, loved your mom’s story on BERF today too. Very cute)
Karen says
Ha…a hybrid of Sex and the City and The Office?! Just you wait…it gets quite dark and dramatic (in a good way!)
Happy Labor Day to you…hoping you’re little guy appreciates how cool it would be to send his mama into labor today! 🙂
KathEats says
Just because of cocktails, sex, nyc and an office
Karen says
Gottcha…but fair warning, it’s no comedy. Oh and how about that non-stop smoking? Twas’ the sixties…
(Your parents/Karen would really appreciate the period detail.)
KathEats says
I know it’s not a comedy! Don really reminds me of both Mr. Big and Steve Carell in looks – but I realize the vibe is totally different 🙂
I love the period details. I can’t believe how often they smoked – in bed, while washing dishes. The office/restaurant smoking doesn’t surprise me, but the near constant smoking does. Although could just be TV exaggeration..
Karen says
Don’s a charmer for sure!!
Smoking was quite commonplace and as was excessive drinking (among creative professionals especially) though it sure does seem like an exaggeration in hindsight. I was born in the right smack in the middle of that decade of great change, so though I was quite young, that show brings back some of my earliest, albeit, faint memories of the social mores of the time. My own childhood was probably more defined by the seventies – a whole different era for sure.
Christine says
Those pancakes look so great! It seems like the perfect fuel for labor to me. I know everybody says it, but get some rest while you can! 🙂
Tara at Padded Tush Stats says
Hey Kath!
I just wanted to say I’ve spent the last 2 days reading your site and catching up. If you remember me, I was a long time reader of yours (for YEARS!!!!) but then Motherhood arrived and, as you’ll soon find out, I couldn’t read stuff as much. Anyway, just wanted you to know that reading all this made me realize how much I missed reading your stuff and how you are such a great source of inspiration.
Best of luck to you on the soon-to-arrive baby.
KathEats says
Welcome back!
Julianna @ Julianna Bananna says
fingers crossed the birthday sprinkles work 😉 the pancakes look delicious!
Karlee says
Mad men is the best! Def one of my favorite shows out there:)
Christine says
I’ve never followed a blogger as closely as I am following you right now! Every morning I wake up and check your blog, then the weather! My family made fun of me for it because I speak of you like you’re a friend…they just don’t understand! Love the breakfast with the birthday sprinkles, keep the good vibes going!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
Those pancakes look amazing! and today would be a fabulous day for labor! Haha I wonder if the nurses at hospitals joke about it being labor day with the women who are actually in labor! Lol not that women in labor feel like joking around a lot…
Amanda - Small Home Big Start says
I’m away at a friends’ cottage for Labour Day weekend and I have to admit that I keep sneaking away to check your blog and see if they baby has come! As a long time reader, I don’t want to miss out on this exciting event for you and Matt. It’s been great following you throughout your whole pregnancy too, but now I’m on pins and needles for the big event.
A couple of months ago I got my mother hooked on your blog too and she’s been going back and catching up on older posts. When I called her last night, the first thing she asked me was “did Kath have her baby?”. So now it’s a family affair, haha
Hope you have a great Labour Day…even if you don’t go into labour yourself!
KathEats says
Love the family affair!

I think you may have convinced me to watch Madmen. I love both the shows you are comparing them to (although I know it’s a drama and dark and serious and so on). Did you finish LOST? I watched the entire series on Netflix and loved it. Although I must say, at times I felt a bit…lost, lol!
Labor on Labor Day…fingers crossed!
KathEats says
Yes, LOST was epic!
Hayley says
Today IS a wonderful day to have a baby – I should know – today is my birthday!!
KathEats says
There are a lot of birthdays today! Happy bday to you
Carrie says
Hello,
I am a long time reader and very excited to hear your news! In my case, enchiladas always did the trick to bring about labor. Good luck!
Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen says
I was totally cracking myself up this morning thinking, “Wouldn’t it be awesome if Kath went into labor on LABOR day…” Corny? Yes. Love it? Yes. 🙂
Sprinkles make everything better. [As does Gingerbread Nutty Butter…]
Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen says
PS I LOVE Mad Men, but didn’t watch any of this season. I’m hoping they will get it up on Netflix soon so I can catch up!
Gretchen says
I love Netflix! Hope today’s the day!
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
Best of luck that you WILL be laboring on labor day 🙂
Rachel says
Pancakes look great! I love how you added sprinkles 🙂
Courtney says
Your breakfast looks yummy! Maybe Baby Boy will make his arrival today!
Aja says
I hope those sprinkles are magical. Today really would be a good day. Good luck!
britt says
hope he comes today!! i was in labor on labor day so it’s my favorite holiday now 🙂
Tracy says
I love Mad Men! However, sadly, my husband does not. He’ll watch it with me, but it’s just not the same when he isn’t that interested. We both loved Friday Night Lights, 24 and The Sopranos though. I keep hearing great reviews of Breaking Bad….we’ll probably watch that instead of Mad Men. I hope we BOTH like it!
Sending labor vibes your way!
j3nn says
Here’s to doing labor on Labor Day! 🙂
Nicole says
Goodness me, I’m so excited for you and your hubby’s arrival – I can’t stop checking your blog and seeing how things are going. C’mon, baby! It’s called labor day for a reason, right? Hope you’re feeling great, girl!
Jenica says
You are being so patient! It’s so admirable. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you!
Kim Eats Junk Food says
what’s the difference between your half decaf and Matt’s half caf? I’m puzzled (but, I’m also “zero caf”)…
KathEats says
I’m just saying that we brewed a half caf coffee – a compromise for us both
Julie says
I was going to ask the same thing! Half caf and half decaf sound the same to me!
Janelle says
Love blueberries and peaches – yum!
Jill says
Gingerbread nutty butter!!!!!!! Wow. I”d love to try that.
seana says
No lunch post? Labor day?
Michelle (Peachy Palate) says
Fingers crossed today will be the day! the baby wants to stay in there with all the yummy food heading its way! 🙂
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
Those pancakes look DELICIOUS! 🙂
Wendy French Barrett says
It’s like Sex and the City because there’s sex in it. It’s like The Office, because it is set in an office.
Christena says
Ahhhhh! Mad Men might be my favorite show ever, and I discovered it like you did – the past two seasons were the first I have watched in “real time.” I don’t really see the similarity with the other two shows (besides the obvious as Wendy stated above). Just wait!!! The first season is good & it just keeps on getting better (and darker). I LOVE Don Draper (drool!). Actually, I kind of see the Mr. Big comparison, but Don’s character is so much more complex. I can’t wait for you to get deeper into the series! I love Mad Men because it really makes you think and sparks lots of great discussion. Workplace culture has come a loooong way (even though we aren’t all the way there just yet!).
So who are your favorite characters? I love Joan – she’s perhaps my favorite female character, but I find that I relate to Peggy the most. Pete Campbell is my LEAST favorite character, always & forever!
KathEats says
I like the same characters as you… plus Betty! Matt likes the office parts best and I like the life parts best 🙂
Karen says
Peggy is my favorite…just watch her grow. And, her relationship with Don (platonic/mentor-mentee) is my favorite relationship. Betty is my least favorite – a whiner who just gets whinier! Yes- she is symbolic of the powerless, dependent woman, but she is extremely self absorbed, too narcissistic to treat her children appropriately. I like the life parts best too!
I hope they are not going to make us wait over one year for the next season, like they did after season 4, and I am hoping season 6 redeems the series after a less than stellar (still good) season 5.
Zoe@lose weight and gain health says
Mad Men rocks. Each season gets better. We are English but in the 1950’s my mum
was a Secretary in an Ad Agency in Toronto. They used to smoke all the time and have drinks and parties in the office so I love a little glimpse of her life just before she had me. Help baby boy comes along soon. The last bit of waiting is so boring!
Cait's Plate says
Oh glad you’re getting into Mad Men! It’s SUCH a good show!
Josie @ Skinny Way Of Life says
My daughter was born on September 4 2006, which in 2006 was labor day but believe me the labor day jokes get old!!! ; )
Jennifer @ Daily Vegans says
Breakfast looks so-yummy… and wishing you labor wishes:) Mad Men is a great show, but I have to say I loved loved loved Sex and The City:):)
Dannii @ Hungry Healthy Happy says
