Today has been just madness – so many things to do, so many customers, so many orders!
I’ve been breaking a sweat running around – seriously. But it’s fun. I love being this kind of busy for this kind of boss.
I’ve been merchandising guru and working on making our retail items look beautiful and arranging packs of sweets and breads on display. We also have a ONE HUNDRED SANDWICH order to fill today, so that’s added a whole new level of excitement!
It’s 10am and I’m just now having breakfast!!!
Coffee!!
An egg from home and a slice of Dakota with Butter Toffee peanut butter! I also had a 8th of a muffin at about 8am to tide me over. No idea where my banana went!?
I was also greeted with some wonderful mail this week – thank you notes from Ms. Carlson’s class!!
So cute – the handwriting and the drawings!
Hope you have a lovely Breadsgiving Eve!!
Kinley @ Better Off Barefoot says
I am very jealous of the fun you have at work! Someday I hope to have somewhere to work that I enjoy as much as you do!! Happy Breadsgiving Eve to you too!

Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
100 sandwiches?! Is that the biggest order yet?
Such a sweet idea with the thank you notes from the kids. You guys should hang them in the bakery!

Ella, RD says
“You are pretty,” that is just precious!
Also, I will have one of each of the 6 sweets you show in your third photo. Maybe two of the iced pumpkin-looking thing. Yummm.
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Those letters are so cute!!! Good luck making the 100 sandwiches – that’s a lot of orders. Is the Butter Toffee PB a Great Harvest exclusive?
Linde says
Hi Kath
I am enjoying your blog all the way from Belgium! 🙂
It’s really nice to have a little insight in the life of an American girl!
I discovered your blog only recently and have been reading your older posts too.
That’s where I got the following question. I seems to me that back in 2008 you looked a bit tinier than you do now. Today you look a little more muscular and therefore ‘fuller’. I wonder which ‘version’ of yourself you like better?
Let there be no misunderstanding: I think you are a very goodlooking and beautiful woman, both then and now. I’m just curious about what you think about this yourself 🙂
Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
(Too bad we don’t celebrate that over here:-))
KathEats says
Tough question. I think I just have a different life now. I have more to celebrate and more to enjoy these days. I own a bakery now, I write a food blog now, I have a home-brewing beer husband now. So I’d say I’m really happy with how life is going right now, and my body reflects that 🙂
cathyb@brightbakes says
Just had to say…I loved your reply, Kath! 🙂
Karen says
Indeed…beautiful perspective, Kath! A full and healthy life includes celebrating good food. Over-restriction is a form of control and to what end? To achieve some “goal” weight? In my opinion, a huge waste of energy and joy!
briana says
Rare commenter, but I just had to chime in here! I, too, love your response here, Kath! Very positive and inspiring perspective, particularly with the holidays around the corner, a time when too many women (and probably men too) misdirect their time and energy by obsessing over their bodies. And it also demonstrates a very realistic self-image because, though you may look different than a few years ago, as the original commenter (and those darn cute kids) observed, you are beautiful!
Tracy says
And don’t forget to mention you do Body Pump regularly now!
Elisabeth says
I loved your answer, too, Kath! You have such a positive, inspiring attitude about a healthy life – I wanna be like you when I grow up 🙂 (oh, wait, we’re the same age…)
Have fun at the busy bakery (love those kids’ letters!) and Happy Thanksgiving to you & your family! 😀
mel says
I have to say…I think you have always looked the exact same! strong and beautiful! I wish I had the same views about food and life in general as you do- you seem so happy! Go you!
D says
I like your response.
Do you think you’ll do a post on this in the near future? This isn’t the first time it’s been brought up in the comments. People look to you for advice and I’m sure they would LOVE (myself included) advice/perspective on how you come to terms with changing weight at different times of your life, etc. You are very relatable when you talk honestly about that, and not just about how perfect/organized/controlled everything is in your life. No one is saying you look better/worse now, but we all go through changes and it would be great to hear you talk about that.
KathEats says
I’m not sure, actually, although I’ve been thinking about it. Basically I don’t want my body under scrutiny. I have been wondering how I would even do a post on it.
KathyZS says
Being happy in your own skin is a very VERY personal thing and hard to address.
You just can’t give advice other than, you have to find our own personal state of grace, and be content with you, takes a lot of self reflection and just general acceptance of you as a person and not caving to what the media, society or anyone says is OK or beautiful. You must be your own biggest fan and happy in your own skin whether it is a size 2, 10, 14, 20 or 26.
KathEats says
Well said Kathy!
Hilliary @Happily Ever Healthy says
Sounds like a fun and busy day! Happy Thanksgiving!
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says

Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
Wow, over 100 sandwiches?! You’re going to be busy today!
Danielle says
I swear, one day I’m going to get to expereince some Good Harvest Bread! Too bad there aren’t any in Ottawa – or Canada for that matter (so far as I know).
Reading blog posts about American Thanksgiving makes me want to do another Thanksgiving this weekend!
Jules @ La Petite Maison Verte says
Butter Toffee Peanut Butter?!!!? That sounds so delicious, where can I get some? (Please don’t say it’s a GH exclusive, as we don’t have one anywhere near us!)
Those letters from the class are too cute! Must’ve just put a big (well-earned) smile on your face to read them 🙂
KathEats says
It’s hard to find!! Naturally Nutty.com and Great Harvests around the country! (Some but not all)

Those are the sweetest letters from the children you visited, especially the one where the child tells you that you are pretty–that is so precious!!! You should make a collage or display them somehow at the bakery.

lindzjane115 says
Good luck today!
I just stopped by the bakery (bought two loaves of bread!), and while my intention was to say hi and finally meet you, it was so busy I didn’t want to interrupt!
Enjoy your well-deserved holiday. I hope to stop by again soon on a less-hectic day. 🙂
KathEats says
Aww thanks for coming in!! Hope to see you again soon 🙂
Meagan says
I can relate to how you feel about the “special orders” – they are what make the bakery go ’round, but sometimes they are so much work in addition to the normal stock you have to keep up!
Jen says
Those cards – the bread drawing is so cute! “Breadsgiving” indeed – I’ll take a Pumpkin roll and that giant cookie to go please!
Dee says
Aww, the class notes are adorable! Awwwwww… I can’t stop awwing at them.

Ellie@fitforthesoul says
aackkkkk!! Those drawings and writings are soooo adorable!! I’m jealous that you have those, haha. I want them. And so glad that things are fun and busy busy~! 🙂
Amie says
I have to ask: Why only an 1/8th of a muffin? And why point out that it was an 1/8th. As someone with experience in control/eating issues this bothered me.
KathEats says
Because that is all I had time to eat I was so busy. Trust me, I would rather have sat down with a whole muffin crumbled over yogurt.
Dynamics says
The power of words. I thought it was cute that you had ATE an EIGHTH at EIGHT…LOL
Oh boy, sleep is needed.
Jen says
I wish you could post how great the bakery must smell today with all the delciousness cooking!!!
Katie says
Wishing you and the family a happy thanksgiving!!!
Hi Karen!!! : )
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
CUTE!!! I love kids’ drawings—soo freakin’ adorable 🙂
Irina says
Kath, you have loads of self-control, no way I would be able to stop at 1/8th of the muffin, especially when all the stuff in the bakery looks so great! Those kiddie doodles are so cute and you know, kids don’t lie 🙂
Kristin says
Happy Breadsgiving to you as well! All those breads are looking delicious! Dakota bread with butter toffee peanut butter sounds yummy. I bet that would have been even better with sliced bananas on top. Have a Happy Thanksgiving! 🙂
Moo mie says
I am half Swiss and consider myself a bread snob. I spent te last 2 years in Zurich and I am completely spoiled. Most American bread just can’t compare. However I can tell by the look of yours that it certainly would!
We need a great harvest noun NYC!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
100 sandwiches!!! You guys are working hard
Sally @ Spontaneous Hausfrau says
Those clusters of rolls look so intoxicating – I just want to grab one and tear off a hunk right now!
Jacqueline says
Those thank you notes are precious. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Leah says
Many people have busy jobs where they don’t have breaky until later in the day and they can’t stop to write a blog post. I think you may not realize this makes your “OMG” so “”BUSY” “!!!” post seem a little unrelatable. Glad you found your fast pace morning fun though.
KathEats says
This post took me about 2 minutes and I was right back up on my feet. Don’t know why stopping one job to do another makes my life seem so lax?
Leah says
PS the notes from the kids are adorable!
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
those little kiddie drawings are the cutest!
good luck with your super busy day!!!
katie @KatieDid says
Loved your response to the question above, and I agree. I think sometimes when life is great, fun, exciting and we are happy that our bodies can reflect that, and I think you look beautiful!
Lisa (bakebikeblog) says
aww what cute drawings!
Sarah@The Flying ONION says
Those notes are the cutest! 😀
Lena @Fit on the Rocks says
Those letters are soooo cute! Better to be busy than not!
laine says
Of all the things I find inspiring about you, none of them have anything to do with what your body looks like! I find your enthusiasm for your business, friends, and activities inspiring. Your drive to run your businesses, and get another degree and take care of Karen and see your friends and live what appears to be a very very happy life – those are inspiring and what I love to hear about on the blog. I just don’t want you to think that all of your readers are wondering about your shape, because I for one am not!
Have a great Thanksgiving!
Kim says
Yes, what laine said! Happy Thanksgiving Kath!
Ally @ A Girl in her Kitchen says
Those thank you notes are adorable! I love it when my husband’s piano students write him notes or make him artwork. SO cute!
Lindsay McAlester says
Happy Thanksgiving! My mind doesn’t allow me to negatively judge people in such ways as some commenters have. I make an adult decision to not do so. Just smile and wave….smile, and wave! 🙂
~Christy @ wonderofallthings says
I didn’t eat breakfast until way too late myself…well after making nearly 130 pumpkin pies! 😮 Enjoy the wildness…only more to come with Christmas 🙂
KathEats says
Wow – 130 pies!!! We made about 60 🙂
~Christy @ wonderofallthings says
60 is awesome! Especially for your first holiday. Sounds like you guys had a better than expected turnout…hooray! Congrats to you both and the crew 🙂
Julia H. @ The Petite Spiel says
Wow what a day! Congrats on all the sales! If I lived near you, you can bet half those sales would have been to me, haha.
