Give me free Wifi, an outlet, a rocking chair, a view and friendly staff and I’m happy at an airport for hours.
Love my home base! (Although it is expensive and has no good restaurants – it also has zero traffic and a 3-person maximum security line!)
I also had a hot chauffer!
Since we have tons of food in our fridge, I opted for a packed lunch instead of stopping by Whole Foods. This lunch is better than WFSB!
Dakota bun with black bean coconut dip
Plus mixed greens salad with cucumber and green pepper, coconut oil dressing, herb salt and goat feta!
Intend to munch on this mid-flight!
Excited also that my flight from Cville to Philly is direct!! I don’t know if I’ve been to Philly in my memorable lifetime, so I’m ready to explore!
Krissy @ Shiawase Life says
That is incredible! Didn’t realize there was a flight to Philly!!
Erika @ The Teenage Taste says
Mmmm…I hate to admit it, but your lunch does look wayyy better than the WF salad bar! I love the looks of that Dakota bun. Seeds!<3
Cait's Plate says
Enjoy it! I’ve been once I think – all I remember is how frustrating all the one way streets are! Haha 🙂
Lauren says
Lucky you for going to Philly! I’m jealous! But there’s so way I could’ve gone since we are still finishing moving! And what a yummy lunch! Next time I’m in cville, I’m getting some of those buns….wishing I had whence was there earlier!
Lauren says
Enjoy Philadelphia! It’s my home town and I love it so much.
Here’s a link to a self-guided walking tour. I don’t know if you’ll have time for it but it does highlight some of the must see historical parts of downtown. You can pick and choose too from the map.

Safe travels, Kath! I’ve never been to Philadelphia but I can’t wait to see what you and the other HLS-ers get up to!
Ashley O. @ The Vegetable Life says
I totally agree I have no problem hanging out at the airport given I have a snack, some WiFi, and some good “people-watching” abilities!!! Have a fun trip!
Melissa @ Journey to Marvelous says
Have fun at HLS! Can’t wait to see the updates.
Sarah @ Sarah's Modern Bites says
I’ve only been to Philly once about ten years ago and all I can remember is the Italian section and TONS of restaurants everywhere 🙂
Everytime you photograph feta it seriously pops of the screen with shear deliciousness. Love goat feta! I added some regular feta to millet last night and it was soooo good!
Where oh where did you get that charming shirt!? I love the key hole, black and white stripes, red trim and buttons… too cute!
KathEats says
🙂
Shirt is Target…I think?
Johanna B says
Wishing you a good flight. I buy the Multi-Seed Food for Life english muffins (they’re GF and full of seeds) but as good as they are (for what they are) they don’t appear a tenth as good as your bun. Such is life….
Cait @ beyond bananas says
Travel safely, happy clam!!
Kristin @ eat healthy. be happy. live well says
I love the C-Ville airport! You’re in and on the plane in a jiffy!
sara @ real fun food says
I love airports! I felt like such a nerd – for my flight in September from London to Newark I actually researched all the terminal restaurants and shops 🙂
Meghan says
Kath – If you have time, you should check out the Reading Terminal Market, which is right near the Convention Center downtown (http://www.readingterminalmarket.org/). I was in Philly for a convention last January, and discovering this place was the highlight of the trip. TONS of food vendors (you can pretty much get something from any genre imaginable), all in one location!
Stace says
The HLS cocktail party is being held at the RTM. Those lucky ladies, wish i was going to be there myself.
Meghan says
Oh nice! That will be great.
Baking N Books says
Is the HLS always held in Philly or just this year? How do they select where to hold it?
LOVE that close up shot of the bun!
KathEats says
Yep – we’ll be there for cocktail hour!
Julie H. of Spinach and Sprinkles says

Susan says
I love the rocking chairs!!!
Jen@foodfamilyfitness says

Lisa @ Sunny Seed Stories says
Free wifi at airports is possibly one of the best ideas of all time! It can save your sanity during a long layover or delayed flight! Here’s hoping you experience neither today! 🙂
Morgan @ moments of mmm says
Safe travels! Rocking chairs are a pretty neat addition to an airport.
cathy says

Khushboo says
WFSB ain’t got nothing on you, Kath 🙂
Rachel says
Hope you have a good time in Philly! I live here and love it, so I hope you will too. As a heads up, there’s a TJ’s at 22nd and market where you can stock up on your sunflower seed butter…

It’s hard to beat the Whole Foods hot bar, but that looks pretty dang close. Safe travels!
Living, Learning, Eating says
I need to try a Dakota bun! Though bread here in Germany is *amazing.* I’ve already had 5 slices of two different breads since landing in Hannover this morning 😛
Mary Louise says
If you are able and weather permits, take a run along Kelly Drive, down boathouse row and along the Schuylkill River, it is one of my favorite places to run!
Sarah says
Have fun in Philly! I live here and have grown to love the city… There are so many good restaurants to check out (and many are BYO)! Check out Garces Trading Company at 11th and Locust for some deliciousness within walking distance of the convention center :).
KathEats says
Thanks for the rec – what kind of restaurant is it? Takeaway? Fancy?
KathEats says
Checking out website!
Sarah says
Yeah! Its a sit down place that doubles as a high end food market run by Jose Garces, one of Philly’s “Iron Chef’s” so everything is really well done. They have great small plates and pizzas (and some regular entrees as well)… but the coolest part is that it is a BYOB with the wine store IN the restaurant! Anyway, that’s my plug… but there really are bunches of wonderful restaurants in Philly, you can’t go wrong :). Have a great trip!
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
I’ve never seen rocking chairs at an airport, how cool!
Safe flight!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says

Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me says
I typically don’t have my laptop so the alone time at the airport is BORING, haha.

Yum! I love seeing how you use your foods differently using up leftovers! I still want to make that Black Bean dip/spread when I come home! Have a great trip, and enjoy HLS… make sure to tell all of us all about it, and the highlights that made YOUR trip.
Devon @FastFoodie says
C-ville is expensive to fly into! I am planning a trip for a race in the Blue Ridge Mtns in September and it is quite pricey! I am super keen on visiting the area though, so I know it will be worth the price tag!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
Ahhh I might have to stop reading your blog just because your bread always looks so delicious and I can’t have it! Ok, I won’t actually stop reading your blog haha but it looks amazing! Have a great flight! I secretly love airports, great people watching.

How cute is Cville airport? With only 3 max at the security line?!? 😀
There is nothing better than packing your own lunch or snack. Beats airline food for sure!

Oh yay! So fun to go to a city you haven’t really explored. The hotel is in an awesome location, so you’ll love it! The Plash bus is the way to go if you go out to the art museum!

I cannot believe I’ve never been to Philly—my dad is a huge history buff, and it shocks me that we weren’t dragged there when we were little! But now that I live in Baltimore, I need to get there—it’s so close! Safe travels!

Lovely! I live in Philly as well, and we have tons of amazing local food and beers! If you’re out and about you must check out Capogiro (http://www.capogirogelato.com/), a gelato cafe with several locations. They make everything in house with local, seasonal ingredients! The pineapple mint sorbetto is to die for 🙂
lani says
Kath, have fun in Philly! I lived there til I was 10 and it is so underrated.
Too many recs to list, but I will reccomend La Colombe Coffee on 19th if that appeals, and DiBruno Bros. Markets for yummy prepared food. In addition the history galore you get just walking around Society Hill and downtown (where I lived) you could check out the Constitution Center off Market Street, the view from the City Hall building, the Art Museum, and the Rodin Museum (sister to the one in Paris). Have the best time!:)
Lani
Rachel says
I lived in Philly for most of my life and I must emerge from lurkdom to second the La Colombe and DiBruno Bros recommendations. La Colombe has been a favorite since I was in high school, and the cheese and olives from DiBruno Bros were my splurge when hosting grimy house-parties. You know, to class things up a bit.
If the weather is nice, I recommend taking your La Colombe and/or DiBruno goodies to Rittenhouse Square (a third thing I love about Philly) for a coffee-break or a picnic. I have especially fond memories of sitting on the stone benches and walls in the oval center. Good people-watching, and a lovely (cheap/free) place to catch up with friends.
By coincidence (I swear!), I’m visiting Philly this weekend. I’ll be on the lookout for bloggers. Have fun!

Ahhhh! So bittersweet for me leaving. I would be at the exit greeting all the healthy living bloggers. :p Don’t let the dank-ness throw you when you walk outside from PHL. It’s my least favorite airport at the exit area… But after that, it’ll be a blast!!! Have a great time.
Lilly says
Lunch looks so delish! I lived in philly for a year for ballet… if you have the chance try to make it to Sabrinas, seriously some of the best brunch food (huge portions tho). There is often a wait but it is worth it 🙂 It is pretty popular, for good reason!
Sarah G says
Hey Kath! If you want a great workout in Philly (and the most fun you will EVER have..), you should check out www.phillycircus.com for an intro to aerials class. They often do them last minute if an instructor is available. I have been taking aerial classes for two years there and am in the best shape of my life because of it! I promise you will not be dissapointed ;). If you need any suggestions for some great places to eat/visit/explore, feel free to email me! And, have fun!
Amanda says
You’re going to love exploring Philly! If you’re in the mood for a sweet treat that’s a Philly classic, you should try the water ice at John’s Water Ice on 7th and Christian. It’s a tiny little place with a small menu, but it’s totally worth it. And if you don’t want water ice, their butter pecan ice cream is to die for!
Molly @ RDexposed says
Those are some sexy driving legs!

Look at those crispy, fresh, glorious seeds! And yes, I always loved Cville airport’s free wifi! Not a single airport in Australia has it that I know of 🙁

I didn’t even know you could bring food on a plane unless you bought it in the terminal AFTER you go through security. Groovy.

Hey, Kath!
I just read your About page and realized you went to Davidson College! That’s where I go, entering my junior year / fall semester abroad. I’m so excited to find another Davidson girl in the fitness blogging world, especially one with such a fabulous blog!
During the school year I write for Shape Magazine’s website as a college consultant here: http://www.shape.com/blogs/dorm-blogger
and currently I’m writing a blog as I train for the Athens Marathon during my semester in Florence. I’d love to get to know you and network with a fantastic Davidson alum, so come visit me at http://theathensmarathonproject.wordpress.com/!
<3 Jane
KathEats says
Hey Jane!! Small world after all 🙂 I miss Davidson and all the great minds there!

I know, a lot of my friends who graduated this spring had major panics that they would have a hard time meeting like-minded friends after Davidson. But I know they’ll figure it out. 🙂
Have a great time at HLS!
