This morning’s bowl of oatmeal was hand-crafted by Matt!
Some days he’s up at 6 rushing to get to the bakery before first pan. Other days he takes his time – and makes me breakfast!
I still can’t get over how different both of our versions of the same recipe taste! I think it’s mostly a thickness and chia seed difference (he leaves out the seeds – no idea why – and cooks it slightly thicker than I do)
Whipped banana oats topped with simple homemade granola, Grandma Candy’s Jam + WF PB
Mas agua [and aqua!]
We ate together on the porch! Enjoy your day!

Agua! 🙂
Mom says
I love “before first pan.” Is that real bakery term?
KathEats says
Yep!
laura says
What does it mean?
KathEats says
It’s when the first pan of bread goes into the oven
Liz says
Your husband is a sweetheart! 🙂
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
I have that bowl in blue!
Still need to try chia in my oats – I love a thick, creamy bowl!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
I definitely think chia seeds make a difference on taste and texture, I had some in my oats this morning! Apple cinnamon oats with egg whites mixed in!

What a pretty bowl! I love Great Harvest! Just found out I am doing my dietetic internship at Appalachian State in Boone NC and one of the first things I checked was if they had a Great Harvest. They don’t 🙁
KathEats says
They don’t 🙁 Neither does Asheville.
But congrats on the match!
The Mrs @ Success Along the Weigh says
Aww, that’s a good man you’ve got there! My Mr made my oatmeal one morning after I showed him how I made mine and he gave it to me all stirred up and it um…well, looked like it had already been eaten. I had to take a pic of it because I couldn’t stop laughing but I love the thought behind it! 🙂
KathEats says
hahahah
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says

What a fabulous way to spend the morning 🙂 I have yet to perfect the whipped banana oat recipe but I won’t stop trying til I get it!

Lol, Matt appears to be in a very pensive mood this morning! Have a great day to you too, Kath!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Perfect way to start the day in my opinion! I’m enjoying oats with my man right now too! Crazy how two people can make the same thing and it come out differently. Technique and slight changes of ingredients completely change a recipe. Have a great one Kath!

It is the little gestures in life that mean the most…breakfast on the porch…very romantic! Love the yellow edging detail on the teatowel.

Enjoying breakfast together must be a real treat with the bakery open! Glad you guys are getting some much deserved time together. 🙂
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
awww what a sweet hubby!
Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says
My husband takes on dinner duty often, but he’s only ever made me an omelet for breakfast. I’ll have to see if he can handle oatmeal… I’m a little skeptical. 🙂
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
Love the bowl! Enjoy your day.

I am sure that Matt likes to be able to take a break from really early mornings every once and a while 🙂

The beauty of a GH lifestyle 🙂 I relish the flexibility. Definitely times where it takes over life (holidays) but otherwise, it has the possibility of providing what feeds you. Love to see you and Matt making it work for you!!
Susan @ Lawrence 785 says
So, so, so jealous of your porch! Can’t wait for the day I have my own house to put an awesome screened porch on 😀
I tried to get some kerf-inspired sunbutter the other day and it was OUT OF STOCK. Boooooo.

Any man that can make a decent bowl of oatmeal is defintely a keeper 🙂
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
So nice of Matt to make you breakfast. 🙂 It must be so relaxing to have breakfast on your porch. Jealous!
Andrea @FrSeed2Stomach says
Do you guys both get up at the same time every day or does it vary a lot? It seems like you get so much done in the morning!
KathEats says
He’s usually gone when I get up, usually gone around 6:30. I don’t mind though. It’s more important to me to fall asleep together than wake up because even on weekends, we rarely wake up at the same time
Rebecca @ Blueberry Smiles says
So nice that you get breakfast made for you on a weekday! Wish I had a sun porch- looks so cozy!
Chris says
Catching up on KERF today and worried about your hand; maybe wearing a wrist splint and using the mouse with your non-dominant hand for awhile? Hope it feels better!
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
So nice when breakfast is made for you!

What a fun morning together 🙂

Weirdly, I seem to only crave oats in the morning when it starts to heat up. I need to start stocking up on mix ins!

Just noticed the straw in your agua and wanted to share a tip. I have a 10.5 month old and, like you, I was constantly thirsty when I was pregnant. I drank water all day long from a cup with a straw. Somewhere around the middle of my pregnancy I was getting incredibly uncomfortable gas pains (TMI?) during the middle of the afternoon everday. After much searching online, I decided to stop chewing gum and also stop using straws. From what I read, you “ingest” much more air when you chew gum and drink through straws and I think it had much more of an impact on me the more space the baby took up. Just a cautionary tale in case you start to experience anything similar. Bendy straws are fun though:-)

How sweet 🙂 I love seeing your breakfasts every morning, they are always drool-worthy! I know oatmeal isn’t always photogenic, but you sure know how to take a good picture. yum!

I made overnight oats for the first time last night. I had to force myself to finish it. It was like paste. Made me think of the glue I used in elementary school. I poured more milk over it, but it was still yucky. Yours always looks so good! I was so looking forward to it after all of your posts/pictures.
I used 1/3 cup oats, 1/3 cup milk, 1/3 cup greek yogurt, 1/2 banana, a lil PB, and some sweetener.
Did I leave something out?
KathEats says
Nope, that’s the texture I love. Maybe add more milk next time – and you can leave out the yogurt?
Victoria says
Kath,
I’ve been reading your blog for about a month now (found it looking for oatmeal recipes) and I just want to tell you how much I love it. I recently had a lumpectomy and discovered I will need a mastecomy, so I am looking at a more health conscious place to be, if that makes sense.
Your blog is my jumping off point.
BTW, you look so lovely.
KathEats says
Thanks so much Victoria, and best of luck with the surgery 🙁
