Squeezing my regular life back in today – I spent the morning working on house things and have an afternoon full of appointments!
Laundry room before:
Laundry room after! Still a work in progress. I might get a chest of drawers or something instead of that rack on the left. We have no linen closet here, so I’m using this part of the laundry room for linen storage in my mom’s antique boxes!! She found one in her house and one on Ebay for me as a housewarming gift! I don’t really use canvas totes for laundry (they would just mildew! And they were a bit mildewy!) but after a nice washing I decided to keep 2 – one for blanket storage and one for sheets/towels waiting to be washed after guests and things. More details on Home Neat Home later 🙂
Also obsessed with these baskets – also a donation from my mother – that had no function in our last house but are perfect for towel storage here!!!
For lunch I biked down to the bakery (down because it’s mostly downhill). What was once a COMMUTE is now a GLORIOUS quick trip!!!
I had a lunch meeting with Lindsey, the editor of Breathe!! We’ve been working together for years but had never met in person. It was such a pleasure to meet her!
Curried Tuna for me!
With a quadruple Savannah bar for dessert
Shared with these new friends who work at Summit Publishing and live here in Cville!

Just wrapped up 3 of my meetings – whew! Gotta go get groceries and things! Good dinner planned tonight.

Love the retro boxes in the laundry room 🙂
Caitlin @ Cake with Love says
That bar looks so good!! I have never had anything from great harvest, I hope they have a location in DC since I am trevelling this week, so I can try some bread!! Curried tuna looks good, never had some before, I am intrigued about the taste!!
Sweet and Savvy says
I need to try Great Harvest products asap!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Love the look in the laundry room so far. I’ve always wanted to do wrapped up towels in a basket but never have the right space for it in bathrooms or laundry rooms. Next house…
Casey @ Pocket Full of Sunshine says
Your decorating style is so fresh and clean. Beautiful!
Kristin @ eat healthy. be happy. live well says
I absolutely love your laundry room! I just have a corner of the basement for mine. I find the canvas bags to be really nice when sorting laundry, but only when I have a bunch to do. I haven’t experienced the mildew yet…maybe I need to check when I get home!!!
Happy cooking in your new kitchen 🙂
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
I love the old boxes… I could spend hours on Etsy! 🙂

Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I love rolled up towels in baskets — too bad it just doesn’t work in our current house. There isn’t enough floor space to have something like that.
Everything looks great so far!
lynn @ the actor's diet says
every time i see those savannah bars i swoon
Ashley says
You’re so organized! I wish I could figure out how to organize all of our stuff in this one bedroom apartment we just moved into. It just won’t fit! Maybe it’s time to let go of some things. 🙁
Amanda says
What bread is your curried tuna on? It doesn’t look like a bread I’ve seen but I could be wrong! Looks scrumptious!
KathEats says
Cville Crunch!
Cait @ Cait hates Cake says
Jealous of your laundry room!! So much space and it looks nice and bright!
Hillary says
I love how bright and sunny your laundry room is. Is that weird? Haha!
KathEats says
That’s what i love about it too!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
very nice laundry room – now the key is to keep it that way! Haha I always seem to organize my apartment and then it always falls apart…
Hannah says
Oh, look at that juicy fruit in the bar! Nom!
deva (voracious vorilee) says
Love how spacious your laundry room looks, and I love how towels look all rolled up in a basket like that, it’s so homey!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I feel like you today—running around getting things done in ALL directions. Heh. It is a GOOD feeling, though. I love being productive!
Cindy says
Wow- you are really making progress getting the new house organized! I am very interested in what you come up with for linen storage. We do not have a linen closet either and i just can’t come up with a good idea for neat efficient storage.
KathEats says
That’s it! The boxes and baskets on the shelf
Cait's Plate says
Gah I REALLY wanted tuna today and didn’t have it! Now I need to make sure I get it in at some point this week because between you and Tina, I’m really craving it!!
Laundry room looks fab by the way – LOVE the wicker basket with the towels!
Dynamics says
I love those boxes. I saw them hanging on a wall and they looked really cute. Just curious… does anyone actually fold their laundry in the laundry room??
KathEats says
I don’t! Only towels/cloth napkins sometimes
Tracy says
I do! Where else would you fold it?
KathEats says
On the bed?
Julie H. of Spinach and Sprinkles says
I just love your style! …. I wish I could channel your decorating energy! Even if it was just for a day! 🙂
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
Love the look of your laundry room! That’s the only thing missing in our house that I wish we had.
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
The Savannah bar…yes. Please. I’ll take one!
And the laundry room looks great. Right out of the pages of a Martha Stewart catalog…great work on that! And love it when I find uses for things in new houses that had zero use in a previous house (sad that I’ve moved enough to know this feeling! but hope to be staying put for awhile)
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
those boxes are awesome! such a great find from your mom. your knack for decorating is spot on, kath!
had 1/2 of a peach savannah bar at lunch today. YUM!
Molly @ RDexposed says

You got to meet Lindsay! Nice. You look like you got some sun as well – tanned.
KathEats says
I put on too much Bare Minerals!
Jen says
Too much? Looks nice to me 🙂
Marie@feedingfive says
I am so amazed with your posts lately, at how organized you are and how much you manage to get done in a day. I thought I was organized but you definitely give me something to shoot for. I love your blue walls. I have blue in my family room and kitchen & it is so calming. Oh and I had to laugh at the trampoline. We have been through 2 in the last 8 years. We are currently without one. Are you sure Matt doesn’t want it? A trampoline enabled me to make dinner when all my kiddos were little.
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
Hah! the towel basket is such a grreattttt idea Kath!! It’s so simple, yet “professional” too. It makes me think of a really nice hotel or something.
Shayla @ The Good Life says
I think your laundry room looks great! And I love the use of that basket for the towels, very cute! And I hate my canvas totes for laundry, they’ve definitely gotten mildewy! Ick!
Kim @ Eat, Live, and Blog says
I love looking at before and after photos. Also, curried tuna looks great! I never had it before. I should try it out one day. Do you have a recipe for it that you can share? 🙂
KathEats says
Unfortunately no, it’s a GH recipe now
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Where’s the cheddar on the sandwich? That phase over? 🙁 hehe
KathEats says
Haha – yeah for today!
katie @KatieDid says
I really like the look of the canvas laundry bags, very clean and chic. And those boxes are adorable too, great way to reuse things in a new way!
Annie says
I have the canvas laundry bags pictured (well, similar) and they have never mildewed. You can’t put wet things in them, but I wouldn’t do that in any laundry receptacle. If I have something wet, like a washrag, I hang it over the edge of the utili-tub to dry before tossing it in the laundry cart.
Your new house looks lovely! Congratulations to you!
Jil @ Big City, Lil' Kitchen says
The laundry room looks fantastic – I love little baskets and boxes.
Angel7 says
I love the antique boxes!!! They are so nice!

Congrats on the shorter commute! It seriously makes all the difference 🙂
I love love love those boxes– so perfect.
Khushboo says
Yay about the shorter commute–> it makes such a difference! I know this sounds super ridic of me but I would probably think twice about accepting a job that required me to travel long distances–> it’s mentally exhausting after a while!
Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says
Your laundry room looks BEAUTIFUL! Seriously, I’m inspired! I’m definitely going to be giving mine a makeover now.
Dee says
I think the curried tuna sandwich is the first thing I will try when(ever) (the husband &)I finally make the trip down to visit your bakery!
Kristina says
Just wanted to let you know I’m really enjoying the GH granola, but I’m going through that C-Ville Cluster waaaaaaay too fast!! My husband looked at the bag this morning and goes “Um… didn’t we just get this bag like, two days ago?” Yes honey. Yes, we did.
Which is a long way of saying can’t wait for the next granola sale 🙂 p.s. your new house looks fantastic
Shannon @ My Place In The Race says
Tuna and curry together is the best! 😛 Yum!
Lara @ TresLaLa says
I’d kill for a laundry room. Yes, I’m weird. But ours is in the garage, and I HATE it! It was my 1 big thing about the house that I didn’t like when we bought it, and I figured I’d get used to it. I guess I have, but I don’t like it… Jealous of yours!
Kristin says
Kath, I think you forgot the most important part…no more doing laundry in the basement with the hopping cricket spiders! My old house had the w/d in the basement and they were all over the place. The horror! Happy washing 🙂
Kylie says
I seen this post the day you made it and fell in love with the idea of the antique boxes. You wouldn’t know which Ebay store your mom purchased it from would you? If not, thanks for the idea! Your laundry room is fantastic.
