Boy is this an exciting week.
Baby’s due. (Duh)
KERFiversary – 5 years
Video crew to my house.
Also, I was asked to be on a major talk show and invited on an international press trip that would have taken place this week and had to turn down both because I can’t travel!!!! Bummer!!!!
The crew finally arrived at 3, and we packed as much as we could into an afternoon. My entire living room was transformed into a studio!!
I really hate to keep teasing you all about this project – it’s not my intention to do so! I just can’t share the details yet. Wish I could very much! I’ll tell you this: it’s a weekly blogging job that includes a lot of video blogs and I’ll be blogging about health and motherhood. I’m very excited! I’ve been working hard in the past few weeks to get ahead a bit so I can take some time off when the baby comes. And after today’s shoot, I’m officially on maternity leave for about a month (except from KERF of course : ) )
Right before the crew arrived, I devoured an AnneP bar. And thanks to those of you who recommended the Camelbak water bottle!! While biting and drinking at once isn’t totally great, it’s overall a wonderful bottle and fits all my requirements: 1 liter, straw, virtually leak proof. I might need a second one for each nursing station in the house! [This is the one I got.]
Then it was go-time. I had to powder my nose a lot – it was hot under those lights! And check out that big baby in there!
After the crew left, Matt and I shot two more short videos, and I uploaded and sent them away while Matt made a pizza!
Incredible whole wheat pizza dough with leftover turkey spaghetti sauce and local North Cove mushrooms!
Leftover zucchini on the side. I could only eat two. Vegetables just aren’t doin’ it for me at times.
I was literally shaking with adrenaline from the afternoon and when we sat down to dinner. I’m feeling much more calm now, and I’m headed to bed with my book. I have a busy day tomorrow, but most of it is fun stuff – like helping Karen get a smart phone!!
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
What a fun and exciting day! No wonder the baby didn’t want to come out yet, he had work to do! 😉
Emm says
Love the camelback; though, the older models seemed sturdier.
Becca says
So happy your day went from a downer to a total upper. After today’s film shoot, I am even more excited for Sept 17 to learn about the new gig! In the meantime, enjoy your maternity leave : )
Sarah says
You’re earlier posts today sounded pretty sad – so it sounds like things are looking up! Keep your chin up – that precious baby will be in your arms very soon. The end of my pregnancy was miserable but now with my guy at 14 months, it’s a distant memory!
KathEats says
I think I was just stressed!
Jennifer says
Can’t wait to hear about your new project! How exciting and very cool to have them in your house filming you!
I have the same Camelbak cup (different color). I LOVE mine! It does take some getting used to but they are great!
Molly @ RDexposed says
Whatever you are doing, I’m so proud as a RD! Represent us well 😉
snw says
I loved the Camelbak bottle– so much that I bought it TWICE– and both times, part of the top flippy straw component broke. (i.e. the ONLY part of the bottle that is not replaceable at the store.) sigh. Perhaps they have made improvements, I gave up a year ago.
Carly @ Snack Therapy says
So much fun and excitement going on in the KERF household! I can’t wait to hear about your new project- you’re really building up the suspense!
Jenn says
I hope this new job will feature quick and easy recipes for the family while satisfying the picky toddler ;P I’ve been in a dinner rut for some time now. I can see you having a lot of fun concocting creative purees for baby.
Kim Eats Junk Food says
I don’t mean this facetiously at all, but have you eaten anything remotely “bad” for you during your pregnancy? I was plagued with around-the-clock nausea/puking during my first trimester and all I could eat was Kraft mac and cheese and bagels. As a competitive cyclist, I rarely eat processed food or junk, but this pregnancy has brought on some odd cravings. Luckily, I feel much better now and I am back to my healthier eating habits, but I have definitely indulged in some cravings that I am not ashamed to admit (sugary cereal, greasy pizza NOT like the kind I make from scratch at home, egg rolls galore…)
I should probably take a page from your book when it comes to what I put in my bowl every morning…yikes.
KathEats says
I ate boxed mac and cheese and bagels and take out pizza in the first trimester! Just not every day 🙂
Elizabeth says
Wow! What a day for you! Bummer on missing out on a talk show…but having a baby due any day is the best reason possible to have to miss it. Can’t wait to hear all about your new project.
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
this is exciting and how fun for you! but bummer about the timing — why oh why does that kind of stuff happen with timing? Trust me, I have none 🙂
Alison says
Wow, that sounds so very cool!! Good for you! Excited for your success. 🙂 I look forward to hearing more about it when you can share the details.
Kelly says
Kath, soooo glad your afternoon photo shoot turned out! Karen will totally love her smartphone! Don’t get a Samsung though, sounds like a couple may be recalled in the Apple lawsuit! Get an HTC!
KathEats says
Apple lawsuit? I must investigate! I have a Samsung.
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I can’t wait to hear about the project when you can tell us! And I guess it’s a good thing baby didn’t come yet so you could get that shoot done! He’s so polite already! Maybe he’ll be on time too 🙂
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
Incredible. Did you ever think you’d be sitting where you were today 5 years ago? congrats!
emily says
That stinks about turning down trips but that green screen in your living room is too exciting! I can’t wait to see/read(?!) the new project.
j3nn says
Very cool!! I had a feeling it was a gig like this. Which talk show? Hmmm… The View? Dr. Oz? hehe I’m such a stinker. 😀
Dustin has a Camelbak water bottle too! They are neat.
KathEats says
Hotter, hotter 🙂
Jen says
The Talk? (please no – I hate that show – it’s just women gossiping about everybody else…like most talk shows). Rachel Ray? The Doctors?
Wonderful news. I do hope you take a piece of thought though…life isn’t a “reality show”. Don’t get too wrapped up in the publicity, your job, media, etc…remember being in real life in real moments with your baby, your family and friends.
My .2 cents.
Kelsey says
can’t wait to hear more about the talk show!!
KathEats says
Well I’m not going to be on… Because I couldn’t get there : (
Michelle says
Yay! You tried the CamelBak! It will be handy with the little guy in your arms 🙂
Katelyn says
HOLYYY CRAP LADY! I think I have an idea… 😉
Michelle @ Fit Girl Blogs says
Pass me a slice of that pizza, it looks AMAZING!
Lorin says
Hi, I’m going abroad and I was wondering what you recommended was the best blogger site to start? WordPress, Blogger, Tumblr…ect. Thanks!
Lorin says
Nvm..I did wordpress and I have live writer so I’m just going to do that.
KathEats says
Yep, those two are the best
susan @ susonia.com says
What a fun project!!
Also, yesterday was my son’s 1st Birthday and I kept checking whether your little guy would be coming the same day. 🙂
You’re so close now, how amazing!!
Lisa says
Oh how exciting! I think you will (as you are now) be an inspiration to many to make healthy changes in their lives. Good for you! 🙂
Laura (Blogging Over Thyme) says
What talk show?! Sounds really exciting–green screen and everything. Can’t wait to hear all about it! You’re working SO much during these last days…I feel like I would be too distracted to get anything done!
Khushboo says
What is Karen thinking of? Go iPhone :)!
KathEats says
Android! So much more user friendly
Amy says
Apple products got to the level of popularity they are at BECAUSE of how user friendly they are. I’m not saying they win vs. Android, it’s personal taste. But Apple is well-known for being extremely user friendly.
Amy says
Oh yeah, and as someone pointed out above, avoid Samsung, they will be recalling many phones as part of their settlement
KathEats says
Some might think so, but I’ve used both and found my iPhone to be very hard to multitask on
Lisa @bitesforbabies says
Wow! That’s so exciting! Nice to know all your hard work paid off 😉
Elisse says
I was really unsure about my camelbak at first. The whole biting thing was throwing me off. However, I did get used to it and now I love it!

mary @ minutespermile says
so neat! glad they made it and baby is still okay. good luck with the epic days ahead!
Pam says
Wow a very exciting day for you! Would send me into contractions if I were pregnant.
The health and motherhood video and blogging sounds perfect, can’t wait to see it!!
My husband likes the Camelbak water bottle. We also have the Nathan stainless steel with straw, no biting required. Both are handy to have around and we always bring one when we’re out running errands.
Just got the Samsung Galaxy S III, love it! Still getting used to the touch screen typing, I went from a BlackBerry. Android phones are much better! Full Google maps, better user interface, bigger screen.
Pam says
p.s. We went to RadioShack and got better deals on our phones instead of going to a Sprint store and were able to sign up for Sprint. The phones give you a free trial of voicemail reader, then it’s $1.99/month, so ask them to turn it off for you if you don’t want it.
Jenica says
I love my camelbak and really enjoy the biting and drinking at the same time at this point (it’s been years; I’ve gone through about 4 or 5 at this point). But they do leak when there’s some sort of change in pressure, so be careful. The major times are when you fill it with cold water and go out for a hot day (the water heating up increases pressure and bubbles out the straw), being outside in the winter and coming inside, and riding on planes. So don’t pack your water bottle into your backpack for the plane or you’ll end up soaking everything!
KathEats says
Thanks for the tip!
Cait's Plate says
Can’t wait to hear more about it but congrats! It sounds like a super exciting opportunity 🙂
Kelly says
Awesome, Kath! Glad the crew arrived.
I have the same water bottle and LOVE it. Two things I’ve experienced though: one – when I take it on an airplane and it’s full of water, the pressure changes cause it to leak unless you are drinking out of it on a constant basis. two – same thing happens in the car when it’s really hot. It’s odd – but it happens!
KathEats says
Weird! Thanks for the warning. Maybe air in the straw is forced out ?
Kelly says
Yep I think that’s it. Still an awesome bottle – I also prefer straws, so it works great for me.
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
That is so exciting!! I can’t wait to hear what you will be doing 🙂
Karen says
Could things get any more exciting? in KERF land?! Glad to hear the news that you are pulling back from most professional commitments for a month…you’ll have no shortage of new opportunities when the timing is right.
In the meantime, take it easy!
Karen says
Hey, Kath! I am just about to buy an e-reader, contemplating the Samsung tablet you suggested and the Nook Color – which design-wise seems much sharper than the Kindle Fire (plus I like the local in store support should it be necessary.) My take is that the Samsung you bought is more versatile in that it offers full Internet access, but the battery life and monitor less desirable for purely reading – which is my intention. I’ve been pondering the pros and cons of each since you inspired me to push this decision to the top of my priority list once again. Any insight to help sway me? Do you find the screen more difficult on your eyes (glare?) when reading for a long stretch of time?
Coincidentally, a smart phone upgrade is next so I’m excited to find out re. your shopping excursion w/Karen. I’m leaning toward an iphone myself, but I’m all ears…
KathEats says
Hey Karen : )
I think your choice should probably depend on how you’re going to use it. I use my tablet mostly at home, so battery life isn’t an issue. I probably use it an hour a day for surfing the web in the mornings and evenings and maybe 1-2 hours of reading a day (including insomnia reading!!) and find that I only have to charge it about every third day. I don’t find the screen glare bad at all, and i like how easy it is to adjust the brightness (because day to night is such extreme).
The internet, Google-friendlyness and ability to get the pregnancy apps, Facebook, Google Reader, Twitter, a camera, Instagram, etc was very important to me, so I was thrilled with the tablet. I don’t know too much about the Nook, but it seems to me that Kindle might be more popular (more cheap books, more sharing, library borrowing, etc) so I’d be inclined to recommend the tablet over the Nook. I haven’t ever played with a Nook though so I don’t really know! I think you should go to the store and play with both of them to see which you like better for usability.
Karen says
Much appreciated, Kath …I have become quite enamored w/ purchasing on Amazon in recent months, so that’s where the Kindle Fire does have a huge edge over the Nook in my view. The battery drawback sounds like it would be a non-issue for me as well. If the screen is comfortable on your eyes, then maybe I should just go for the more bells and whistles Samsung tablet; my sister sings it’s praises too.
P.S. Don’t forget to record SYTYCD tonight! 🙂
KathEats says
Can’t wait for Sytycd!!
Katie @ Real Food Katie's Way says
I’m so glad they made it!!! And I am looking forward to seeing you on that talk show WHEN that happens!
I agree your whole wheat pizza dough is incredible! It’s the only pizza dough I make now! As a matter of fact it’s on the meal plan for this weekend!
Laura says
That is so exciting the crew made it! Glad you were able to check that off your list! Can you reveal what show you were asked to be on? My curiosity just kills me! The Chew? Randomly, that’s my guess 🙂
Anne P says
So many exciting things on the horizon for you. Can’t wait to follow along! 🙂 And thank you for the link love – I’m glad you’re enjoying the granola bars!
xo
Alicia says
You are working it Momma! 🙂 Can’t wait to learn more about why the film crew was there.
We bought some of the camelback water bottles new at a yard sale for $1 each (the only drawback…they say carhart on them). We love them. If you will hold your bite on the tip while you release suction, the water will go back down in the bottle and help with some of the leakage issues. If I forget to do that, that is when I find that they leak on the plane or in the car. Also, the bottle fits nicely in the water bottle holder on my bike.
Sarah @ Blonde Bostonian says
so much excitement! I can’t wait to hear what the project is all about!!
Kiki says
I love my camelbak(s) so much. I drink water super fast with them. Problems: the mold on the bite part…I buy new bites and replace them…and then at some point, I buy another bottle. One other issue, I leave them in places! One is currently in my friend’s car. I think another one has been gifted to the universe recently. I rarely lose things…total love/hate with the camelbaks.
TinaD says
Where can you buy the bite part? I need to replace my daughters’ and haven’t seen them in the stores where I bought the original bottles.
Anna says
I’m curious – deciding not to do berf anymore because of controversy is still true? Or would it be a conflict of interest?
KathEats says
No that’s still true. These posts will be more story based
Taylor says
I didn’t read all of the previous comments so I’m not sure if someone already guessed this, but I hope the talk show is The Chew! I watch it almost everyday during the week, love it.
Angel7 says
WOW, Kath!!! … A major talk show & international press trip! … You are one STAR 🙂

Karen says
I hear you on the racing, anxious mind…
Maybe a little yoga or mindful meditation will chill you out? Try to keep things simple and chill; focus on a today and don’t get overwhelmed with all of the unknowns and activity to come in the few weeks. Most of your to-dos are done; now’s the time to start learning to cut yourself some slack.
Hugs!
Helen says
I’ve always thought hospitals give you a nice big bottle with a straw when you deliver. One of your many freebies 🙂 It might not be completely leak proof though. I have a camelbak and just can’t stand the biting to drink.
The Healthy Apple says
Congrats Kath; so excited for you! You look BEAUTIFUL!! XOOX
Jo Williams says
I guarantee there are going to be lots more offers coming your way so don’t fret! Your project looks very intriguing! Can’t wait to hear more about it. Sitting outside on my screened porch looking at the big moon – baby time coming! I also love the Camelbak water bottle – I have several.
