Breakfast today is about as gray as our sky is outside 🙁
But the flavor was a sunny day! (whaaa wha whaaaaaaa)
I felt like pumpkin today – it seemed cozier.
- 1/3 cup oats, hemp milk, water
- 1/2 medium banana
- Wheatberries
- Salt/vanilla
- Flax
- Almonds
- Brown sugar
For some reason I’m not feeling that full right now, even with my cup of tea. Maybe I should have a cup of water too, since I know this was enough fuel for a non-workout morning.
Speaking of workouts, I’ve packed my bag and am planning to go after my exam this morning at Winthrop. I figured it would be more fun to go then than at 4pm when I’m tired and ready to plop on the couch.
I’m having lunch at EarthFare with readers Jessica and Oliva today! Let’s hope the rain holds off.
VeggieGirl says
It’s pretty gray here as well this morning 🙁 Hopefully the sun will make an appearance!!
Good luck with your exam, and have fun at lunch with Jessica and Olivia!
Foodie (Fab and Delicious Food) says
Good luck on your exam! Have fun at lunch!
Sammie says
Enjoy your lunch. I hope the sun decides to make it out today here too, it is kind of gloomy.
I went for pumpkin this morning too, but I left out the banana. I will have to try that next time, I bet the flavors mingle well.
coco says
good luck to your exam!
btw, did you forget to put pumpkin as ingredient ? ^_^

It just occurred to me that in all my years, in everything I’ve ever done, every place I’ve ever lived, every thing I’ve ever experienced, I have never ever had a square bowl.
I never thought I’d hear myself say this, but I think I like that better than Mork’s egg.
Rose says
Lovely bowl of oatmeal!
I too am hoping the rain holds off. I didn’t bring an umbrella! This could be a catastrophe.
Christie i. says
Skies are grey here too, supposed to rain for a couple of days 🙁
Josie says
Pumpkin with brown sugar, yum!
Megan says
Gotta love pumpkin oats!
Have fun at lunch!

Pumpkin is the perfect comfort breakfast.
Have a great lunch!
rhodeygirl says
at least you have a pretty summer flower to hold u over!
a weird survey ad just came across my screen. did you add that recently?
Allison says
Is the pumpkin supposed to go in instead of banana? I’m obsessed with pumpkin’s right now. I’ve been having pumpkin soup every day for lunch. These oats look amazing–I might just have to try them! (Pumpkin for 2 meals isn’t weird is it? 😉 )
Biz says
Ha Charlie!
We had gray skies last night, but its a beautiful day today (still wish it was cooler though!)
Cate says
mmmmmmm! looks really yummy. I don’t know if your cool square bowl is oven proof, but I was wondering if you have a creme brulee torch? If you torched the maple sugar then it would have added another dimension to flavour. I’m going to have to try that (I don’t have a torch but I will broil it in the oven). Just a suggestion if you aren’t tight for time.
Jenn says
did everyone see Cristin’s response on eatlikeme to the HFCS question? good info.
i am now simply going to cut back on sugar. because HFCS isn’t bad in good products. good to know.
Justy2003 says
I had pumpkin oats this morning, too! I’ve been having them all summer though as well…I like it even when it isn’t fall! Hard to believe October is right around the corner, though! It doesn’t quite feel like fall here yet.
Amy says
good luck on your exam! i just took one an hour ago so i understand 🙂 your breakfast looks deliciously cozy and comforting !

Horray for Grey’s Anatomy Tonight!!!
Heather says
Hey- thanks for the wheatberry tips yesterday! I made some last night (no soaking) and they turned out great.
Hope the sun comes out for you today!

BAH for tests! I have two today, one (huge-o) tomorrow, and one Monday. Good luck!

Question for you, Kath (or anyone else who can help!). I’m confused about the calorie content in a bag of popcorn. In a 2.9oz (80.8g) bag of Orville Redenbacher’s natural simply salted 50% less fat, it says a serving size is 2tbsp unpopped (120kcal), which makes about 4.5 cups popped. It says there are 2.5 servings per bag. Under the amount per serving section, it lists a serving as 2tbsp unpopped and 1 cup popped (at 20kcal). Is this saying one bag makes 11.25 cups popped, making the bag come in at 225 kcal? Or is this completely wrong? It just doesn’t seem like there are 11 1/4 cups of popcorn in one bag, but it seems like this is what the label is saying…any ideas?
TracyJ says
Allison- is the pumpkin soup you’ve been having homemade? I LOVE pumpkin and would like to try and make a good pumpkin soup sometime soon!
JJ125 says
Just something funny I noticed in your last night’s post… you said the Hemp Plus “smelled/tasted like dog food.” It always cracks me up when people say something tastes like dog/cat food…. like they know what that tastes like! LOL
Although I do have friends that have eaten dog food on a dare or for money…. yeah my friends are real classy….
madison (follow my weigh) says
jj125 – i know what dog food tastes like =). i was a curious child.
Betsy in Pittsburgh says
I too am guilty of tasting dog food. Once at PetCo with my boyfriend and his brother… they dared me to eat one of the dog cookies from the “treat bar” at the front of the store. It wasn’t too bad, but taking it out of the public tubs grossed me out.
CynicalRed says
To Melissa with the popcorn conundrum: I think you’re exactly correct. If you pop an entire bag and dump it in a large bowl, you’ll be surprised at how much there truly is. I think the 11 cups is counting on EVERY kernel popping, which we all know generally doesn’t happen. But yes, I’m almost positive you’ve read it correctly. (I’ve been through this debate with myself on numerous occasions.

It is gray and cool here too. Looks like you had tea this morning, though– I had to give in to the coffee craving.
btw sorry if you’d already tried the chocolate coconut chew larabar– i should have sent you another coconut creme instead. ah well. honestly, i wish i had the finances to send boxes of larabars to everyone– it makes me feel all pen-pal-ish. 🙂
Anne says
I also had pumpkin oatmeal this morning.
Kath: do you ‘pumkin-pie spice’ your pumpkin oatmeal? or just flavour it the same as the banana variety?
Jenn says
wish i could try a larabar:( 🙁 ive never had one, and no place around me sells them ( i live in the boonies)
Ryane says
Wooooo, Grey’s Anatomy!
A message to Larabar – (I’m sure someone at least from marketing checks out this blog) I totally suggest a pumpkin pie flavor!! With dates and some spices, I bet it would be totally easy, sweet and nutritious. Holy fiber!
Kath says
coco ,
TOTALLY did forget the pumpkin!! There was about 1/2 a cup. And banana too.
Charlie Hills,
LOL. I love my square bowls and plates!
rhodeygirl ,
No idea what the survey thing is – I did not authorize any sketchy pop-ups and never will! I HATE pop-up ads. It happened to me once on another site and once when I was on mine. I think it might be our computers. I’m going to go run AdAware.
Cate ,
I really want a creme brulee torch!!!! Maybe for my b-day or Xmas 🙂
melissa ,
I agree that you are right and think the 11.5 cups per bag is correct. I’m not really sure without being able to read the label in front of me, but I think they just give you the 1 cup info as another option of how to serve yourself. They sure don’t make it easy!
tfh ,
I LOVE the Coconut Chew – I think it’s my current favorite, tied with Pecan Pie. Thank you so much for sending them!!
Anne ,
I usually and PP spice but forgot today. Sometimes I prefer it without the spicy bite to it.
Ryane ,
Pumpkin Pie flavor would be brilliant!!
Kath
rhodeygirl says
thanks kath. i am running my adware now too
