Mmmmmm mustard for breakfast! Overnight oats actually taste really good mixed with a little mustard!
Just kidding!!! The jar was empty and clean! Just some OOIAGPJ
Smashingly delicious mixed with milk, yogurt, blueberries, chia seeds, banana, a pinch of salt, sunflower butter and Cville Cluster granola bits!
Vanilla tea by Adagio – really like all 3 flavors that I ordered!
Amazing Tech Tip Of The Day
Google Chrome is my browser of choice. It’s sleek, super fast, and has a very simple header – no distracting toolbars or superfluous buttons. It has an autofill feature, but it doesn’t work very well. Meaning, it doesn’t auto fill. It just saves things in the blank. For months (years!) I’ve been having to do a rumba on my keyboard to get my saved information to pop up using the arrow keys and my mouse.
Last night I discovered while searching for autofill Chrome extensions that if you double click on an empty blank your most used saved energy will populate. Two clicks. No touching the keyboard. Life changing.
Now commenting on blogs that don’t save your info is easy!!!
This concludes your amazing tech tip of the day : )
My house is FINALLY unpacked. My suitcase was unpacked within an hour of getting home, and I did laundry yesterday. But there was all this clutter that had to be dealt with too – like packages and mail that came and the contents inside that had to be addressed. I finished up my list and de-cluttering last night and things are now calm again.
Quick shower –> bakery time! I’ve missed being there and am excited to go in!
Cait's Plate says
Aaaah, I love the feeling of restored order. I still have yet to unpack from my vacation – I think I might be feeling like if I don’t, I can still pretend I’m there. I think I’m just going to have to bite the bullet tonight and get it done.
And also? You TOTALLY had me going on that mustard thing. I was thinking “What?! Am I really going to have to try this now just out of sheer curiosity?!” I’m VERY glad it was just a joke. Haha.
Happy return to the bakery day! 🙂
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
You scared me for a second 😉 So glad there was zero mustard in your oats 🙂
Have a great day 🙂
katie @KatieDid says
Obviously I believed that for .2 seconds. You’ve been known to come up with some pretty creative creations. The other day I had CABIATJ– thats chicken and broccoli in a tahini jar. And yes, there was tahini in there, and yes it was fabulous!!
Balancing Sylvia says
Oh you prankster you 🙂 You totally had me going with the mustard too. Glad all is in order again, at least for another two weeks! Have fun at the bakery today
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
Really!?!?! I *hate* how Chrome doesn’t really auto-fill. Mine saves my blog commenting info – but does not work when I am trying to fill out forms, ordering something, inputting addresses, etc. I’m going to try that. Thanks for the tip!
Mmmm, mustard for breakfast. Ha,ha.
~
Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn says
Ahahahhaha girl you had seriously freaked me out — mustard and b-fast do not mix. 😉
I loveeee Chrome, I’ve been using it since it came out! I love how simple and sleek it is — and the autofill feature isn’t too shabby either 😉
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
Haha…the chia seeds really do make it look like mustard at first glance 🙂 “Parson me, sir…” 🙂
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
Oops…Pardon!
Katie @ Nourishing Flourishing says
Such a great feeling to be jazzed about getting back in the work groove after some away time! Hope you have a great day bakin’ it up a few notches 🙂
Darcy @ She Sings at the Table says
I was baffled there for a second with the mustard! I recently had a friend tell me she likes oatmeal with a scoop of miso, though, so I guess there are stranger things…
Donna @ Life of a Happy Blonde says
Okay i was all set for a ham, cheese and grainy mustard sandwich then i saw over night oats and i got al little concerned 🙂 🙂 🙂
Yay for declutter and have fun at the bakery!
Cait @ beyond bananas says
So creative using the mustard jars! I love cleaning out jars for storage purposes as well. Will use them for homemade granola or sauces as well as spices! Anything to save a dollar!
Cait @ Cait hates Cake says
You did have me going for a second – the chia seeds kinda look like mustard seeds.
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
I just cleaned out a pickle jar last night for overnight oats, hoping there is no pickle flavor left behind!
Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me says
I am in desperate need of doing laundry. Mike has no undergarments left….so I should probably do that tonight. Haha!
Ali G. says
Your breakfast always looks so great and satisfying. Approx. how many calories do you normally consume for breakfast with your ONOIAJ?
KathEats says
500?
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
The chia seeds definitely make it look mustard-y! 🙂
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
“Superfluous” is now my new favourite word of the day!! LOVE IT! I’m not sure I could eat OIAJ out of a mustard jar, regardless of how many times it’d been washed… mustard and I are not friends! Have fun at the bakery today!
Meaghan O'Connor (My Spoonful of Inspiration) says
Don’t you love crossing things off your to do list? It feels so great. Welcome home. Love to see the oats featured again. 🙂
RunEatRepeat says
My swag bags aren’t unpacked yet and I thought to myself, “I bet Kath is unpacked, I need to get on it!” You’re a good influence 🙂
KathEats says
Hahaha
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
Haha that jar had me worried for a minute! People always give me weird looks when I eat out of nut butter jars, so it would look even weirder to eat out of a mustard jar 🙂
Amanda- The Nutritionist Reviews says
I trust all of your recipes but when I saw mustard, I was a little weary! Glad it was a joke : )
Julie H. of Spinach and Sprinkles says
HA! You totally had me going there for a minute!!!! I was like NO WAY, she’s being so BOLD today! 🙂
I still need to unpack from vacation, this task is so daunting and when I feel like I have so much to do…
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
hahahaha! I was about to say “that is really gross”. I’m about to tackle my unpacking and grocery shopping. First day in my new job tomorrow 🙂
Hilliary @ Happily Ever Healthy says
I want to try Cville clusters so bad! They look and sound amazing! Hope you have a good day!
Amy says
i had the EXACT SAME THING for breakfast this morning- too funny! except I have no cville cluster granola 🙁 ….but mine was in an empty Sunflower Butter jar (win!)
Heather @ Side of Sneakers says
Umm thank you!! That’s the ONE thing I don’t like about Chrome, and now it won’t matter. yay!
Baking N Books says
I have no idea what all that computer tech talk even means!
In my opinion – mustard goes with everything…haven’t tried oats yet though!
Heather @ Get Healthy with Heather says
Haha I was a little worries about mustard in overnight oats… Unless it was savory oats, then that would be tasty!
Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance says
I hate to admit that you had me fooled with that intro… haha 🙁
Ashley says
I have no clue what that tech tip even means….?? And I use Chrome!! Doh. I was scared w/the mustard…no likey the mustard!
Emily@SavoryandSavage says
Actually, I think mustard would be a great ingredient for breakfast – but since I always have a savory breakfast it makes a bit more sense 🙂
Kiran @ KiranTarun.com says
Hahaha! You had me there with the mustard joke. Can’t imagine how it would taste in OIAJ. Ewww!!!
allpointswhole says
I was about to say….man you really went over the edge there!
lynn @ the actor's diet says
i bet grainy mustard would taste good with some savory oats!!!
Kerry says
I was kind of willing to try the mustard thing if you were recommending it…. but I am very relieved that the jar was clean!
Laura @ prettylittlewords says
Wow, definitely almost threw up in my mouth a little bit. I despise mustard in all forms, but I was like OKAY KATH, THIS IS WHERE WE STAGE AN INTERVENTION. Lmao, glad you were teasing.
Sarah @ Sarah's Modern Bites says
hahaha Kath you had me fooled for a second there. the picture really looks like a jar of grainy mustard! And I was like a little mustard in overnight oats? Sure okay… I dig savory oats… let’s see where she is going with this. I am SO gullible! And, I’ll try anything! haha
Chrome IS the bomb. GREAT tips. That autofill stuff can be annoying and tricky to manage.
Sounds like your ready to take the rest of the week on! It’s a great feeling when you’re all organized and chores (at least SOME chores) are behind you!
Army Amy* says
You know you’re in the right profession when you are excited to go to work! Do it to it!*
Faith @ For the Health says
You had me going there for a second…but I was thinking “ok, I thought I would put anything in mustard after i dipped popcorn in it, but even I draw the line at oatmeal…” glad it was clean – hah!
kaila @ healthy helper! says
I have a feeling there is someone out in the world that eats mustard in their oats!
Margo @ Peanut Butter Trees says
Yayy bakery! Excited to see what’s been goin on there while you’ve been away 🙂
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
doh you really got me on that OOIAGPJ!! 😛 OoOO Google Chrome sounds really cool! I should get with the program 😛
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
LOL, I love mustard but was having a hard time wrapping my head around oats + mustard!!
I love Chrome too but it’s always had autofill for me? Weird! Never had that problem. In fact, mine has the most advanced autofill out of every browser I ever used and I didn’t do anything special to make it that way. Straight out of the box.
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Oh, but yeah, I did know about that double-click thing. I guess it was just second nature to me so I didn’t think it was any different being I do that for all my browsers anyway, haha.
KathEats says
Well mine will auto pop-up, but it doesn’t auto FILL. I still had to use a keyboard – until I discovered the double click!
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
Phew you scared me! 🙂
Kate @ NaturaStride says
So jealous you’re unpacked. I was away for 5-days and got home on Sunday and still haven’t unpacked. I sleep horribly in hotels so have been super exhausted this week! I am determined to get in a long run tonight and finally unpack. Determined!!
Rachel says
The Chrome autofill trick doesn’t work for me 🙁
Good job getting unpacked so quickly though!
rumfunandsun says
I imagine your tech tip ending with “Kath’s tech tip of the week brought to by Great Harvest Cville and these paid sponsors!” 🙂
kris (everyday oats) says
I saw the picture of the mustard before reading it so I though that was actual mustard! – and it says ”made with white wine” so thats why I thought it was white haha
Hilary says
Haha….that is a funny joke with the mustard jar. The chia seeds even make it look like grainy mustard!
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
Yeah, yogurt would NOT go well with dijon mustard!!
Namaste Gurl says
I was a bit grossed out at first… hehe, never know what KERF has going on 🙂
Have a great day!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
Eww mustard in overnight oats might even taste worse than the time I accidentally added garlic powder instead of ginger powder to my zucchini bread oatmeal! 😛
Kristen, Sweetly says
I yearn for your overnight oats. I do have ten pounds of blueberries in my freezer, I guess I should get started.
RhodeyGirl says
Looking forward to using that tip. Thanks!
Also, I don’t think I’d be able to eat something sweet out of an old mustard jar… I am too much of a visual eater and I’d have to cover the writing up!
Khushboo says
I’m the same after a trip- gotta unpack and get back into the swing of things asap!
Jackie @ That Deep Breath says
I don’t even think I could eat OIAJ in a mustard jar!! It would freak me out too much. Glad to hear there was no mustard in the oats though…that would be a little too interesting.
I wait way too long to unpack after my trips. I think it makes me feel like I’m still on vacation until I unpack all my stuff. Then it’s back to reality!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
Hahahaha, I definitely said “gross!” out loud when I read that you used a mustard jar for overnight oats! I’m glad that was just a joke or I’d be a little concerned!
ling says
my over night oats today had mango and blueberries with spinach–needless to say that green monster got some strange looks on my commute, but it sure was D-licious!!
do you ever get the weird conspiracy theory feeling that google chrome shouldn’t know so much about you? like…what non-government agency is funding this amazing feat?!? just a thought:)
KathEats says
Nah 🙂 Privacy is a concern, but so is staying on top of your finances and credit cards so you notice any slight little change.
Mai says
Haha. I actually believed that mustard bit for a second!
Shayla @ The Good Life says
Ha you totally got me there for a sec…for a minute I really thought “OMG Kath had mustard with her overnight oats…I guess I’ll have to give it a shot since everything she has is delicious!” 😉
CM says
I love using non traditional jars to hold my overnight oats. I have this jar that used to hold vermont pickles, but is now used for breakfast because the sides have large waves in them.
Living, Learning, Eating says
That sounds odd! But I am a fan of mustard…
Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats says
Anytime I see Grey Poupon I think of an old episode of Married with Children where Al Bundy rolled up in a Mercedes and asked the guy next to him if he had any in a goofy wannabe accent. lol. Great recycling! 🙂
occula says
Kath, I wanted to let you know that I purchased my first chia seeds last week – well, the first I don’t plan to use to grow a chia pet with! My health food store had a whole new ‘seeds’ kind of display. I started small by putting a big spoonful in with the granola I was putting into my yogurt, and loved it! I love millet and the seeds in kiwi and sesame and poppy seeds anyway, so this kind of texture-add is right up my alley. Thanks! Looking forward to doing more with it soon.
KathEats says
🙂 Yay
Rosa - Fitness, Food, Fulfilled says
Overnight oats are so so good. I had some this morning and can’t wait until we run out of peanut butter again.
Clutter always gets to me too. Everything has it’s place and needs to be in it, otherwise I can’t think straight. Love organization!
anne says
oh my gosh- I cannot make these stupid overnight oats! I try and let them sit in the fridge overnight with my almond milk and in the morning they are still tiny hard grains. Either that or the blackberry seeds in my berry mix are the thing that keeps hurting my teeth! Do you have any recipies? Your tribute to oatmeal looks awesome, but one can only guess how you made it!
KathEats says
are you using old fashioned rolled oats? They will not work as well with steel cut – they take much more time to hydrate.
anne says
that must be why, I was using steel cut. Thanks! 🙂 still want to try your other recipe once we can get some bananas, looks delicious!
anne says
well, upon further reading I saw that I never put in any yogurt. But maybe I’ll just stick to your banana oats you did on the stove, those look yummy – I can do that!
Christina @ MsFitMom.com says
Hi Kath!
As an avid reader of your blog for years I’m ashamed to admit that I’d never tried overnight oats before – that is, until this past weekend. I hate oatmeal (I almost feel like typing that on this site will send a bolt of lightning hurling at me!) and always have, so I’ve been looking for a way to make it palatable. Well I’m happy to say that overnight oats in a jar are the way to go!!! Made them just like your recipe says and they gelled up nicely so it was like eating really thick yogurt with oat pieces and banana in it. The chia seeds definitely make a difference – I made two versions, one with the chia and one without – and the chia gelled much better. So thank you thank you thank you for making me eat oatmeal again! I can’t say I’m in love with it but I like it well enough to eat it 2-3 times a week and that’s good enough for me. Another convert!
KathEats says
Wheeeeee!
Angel7 says
A funny combo… Oats in a mustard jar 🙂 Maybe mustard with oats would be a condiment for a sandwich (LOL)
http://faithfulsolutions.blogspot.com/
Lexi @ A Spoonful of Sunshine says
I always mourn not being able to have OOIAJ until the jar is empty…
I can’t believe I didn’t think of that haha!
Maybe I should just stick to *eating* oatmeal 🙂
Janie says
I have wholegrain mustard most days for breakfast! On toasted rye (no butter) and topped with 1 or 2 hen or duck egg,s fresh and warm from the nest. Sheer heaven!
xx
Molly @ RDexposed says
First thought that ran through my head with the first lane, “She’s gone crazy.”
jenna k says
i’m glad to hear you like the vanilla tea as well… because i went crazy and bought 5 samples packs from their website last night! i got coconut, caramel, apple, vanilla green, and peach white. i realllly wanted the birthday cake, but it doesn’t come in the small samples, so i’ll get it next go-around. thanks for sharing about their teas; i’m really excited to try them!
Hannah says
I totally do make savoury oats with mustard all the time!
sweetkaroline says
loved that google automatic fill tip…guess what i just used to fill out the info to input this comment;)
Katherina @ Zephyr Runs says
Mmmm mustardy oats.
I already said this but I LOVE Adagio teas!! Such great teas. Might I suggest the Earl Grey Creme or the Coconut Creme (tastes like marshmallows!) from Persimmon Tree Tea? So yum.
bitt says
for a second i actually believed you were that crazy. that’s a little far for me. but maybe some kraut and veggies in a waning mustard jar might not be bad!
Kat @ Cupcake Kat says
The first thing I thought when I saw this post was “I have that mustard!”
Teddi says
What Is Your Recipe for that delicious looking jar of overnight oats? I GOTTA have it for breakfast veeeery soon.
Lori says
I’m at work reading this post & I kept getting interrupted after reading the first line about oats & mustard…I was so intrigued… 😀
