Good afternoon today because I feel like I slept through the morning!!
I took a Tylenol PM last night – which I only do if I haven’t slept well for a few nights in a row and NEED to sleep – and boy did it help!! I slept till 8am!
Good thing I didn’t spend any time making breakfast!
Oats in a jar were waiting 🙂
The BEST part of OIAJ is not getting to the nut butter on the bottom – it’s the SIDES!! I meticulously scrap from the top down and leave the jar spotless of any oats, nut butter or yogurt. It takes a while to do and it’s fun! The same kind of fun as vacuuming rows of dirty carpet.
What’s that you say? You don’t like vacuuming rows? What about lawn-mowing rows? Or sweeping piles?
OK, I admit, I am strange. I am the first born in my family!
In my jar:
- Sunflower butter
- 1/3 cup oats
- 1/3 cup yogurt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- Pinch salt
- Half banana
- ~1/3 cup Nature’s Path Hemp Plus Granola (added this AM)
Did you notice the half cup of coffee? It was already made when I came downstairs. I couldn’t pour it out so I poured it in!
I’m off to the print shop soon, then BB&B to get that Cuisinart with my coupon, then biking to the bakery. I was hoping to run this morning, but I slept too late! Maybe later. But not too late because we have a birthday party to attend
HAPPY BIRTHDAY FAITH!!!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
Totally agree on the sides of the jar! And around the edge under the top part of the jar. There are always hidden gems there! Haha. Maybe it is a first born thing?! I’m the oldest and I have a fews random order/organizations quirks… my sisters don’t appear to notice. 🙂
KathEats says
Totally know what you mean about the underedge!!
Natalia - a side of simple says
And I thought I was the only one who viciously scraped out every last morsel with my spoon, especially in the crevices and under the top of the jar! This makes me so happy. 🙂
Val @ Balancing Val says
Lol, lovin the nerd getup! 🙂
Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food says
ohh Happy Birthday to Faith!
OIAJ look wonderful mmmmm I need an empty PB jar! 🙂
Lisa Fine says
Good morning! I slept in today too, which felt great after notgetting enough sleep the night before.
I still haven’t tried OIAJ, but I love scraping the sides and bottom of my nut butter jars. Can’t miss a drop.
By the way, I went to a food show yesterday and brought home loads of samples. I can finally try Hail Merry grawnola and coconut butter!
Miranda @ Working Mom Works Out says
I’m down with vacuuming rows 😀
Glad you got some sleep. You guys have been working like crazycakes!
Kara says
Oh those BB&B coupons! My mother hoarders them like a fiend and then has my brother, her and I each checkout separately so she can use all of them. Today she’s using it to get a fancy Breville mini/toaster oven.
Katherine says
Every BB&B I’ve been to allows you to use one coupon per item even though it says one per transaction, so no need to split up the transactions.
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
Love scraping the sides of the nut butter jar — I also really like the last bite which usually has a ton of nut butter in there. So good.
Happy Birthday to Faith!
Lucy @ The Sweet Touch says
I’ve been waiting for my bb&b coupon for a few days now! It never fails, when I don’t need anything it seems like I get one a week and then when I do need one they just disappear!! I need to get a new fan, it’s a heatwave here!
KathEats says
If you sign up for their email newsletter you can get one instantly!
Alaina says
And the best thing is that the store will take them even if it’s expired!
Chelsea says
The BB&B by me lets you buy something without a coupon and get reimbursed when you get the coupon in the mail! You just have to bring your original receipt in with the coupon – there might be a time limit on it, but I can’t remember for sure.
Freya (Brit Chick Runs) says
Noo not the side – it’s all about the clumpy bits at the bottom! Those last few mouthfuls are just..ah, no words!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Happy Birthday to Faith! Enjoy your time with her today!
Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me says
I wish I could have a good nights rest! It’s been awhile!
I like meticulous things as well. I like to get everything nice and clean!
Bethany @ More Fruit Please says
I like doing things in a a neat and ordered fashioned too like vacuuming in rows. But I am a fist born too, so maybe we are just off a little!
katie says
Just bought a cuisinart blender and food processor (comes with the 2 different top attachments), and it has been GREAT! no vitamix i’m sure but very powerful nonetheless.
faith @ lovelyascharged says
So I definitely read that and thought “wait its definitely not july!” (When my birthday is). Freaked me out for a second! Happy birthday to my name twin 🙂
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
I’m with you on the first-born tendencies… completely!
And I’m currently scraping the sides of my OOIAJ (homemade almond butter)!
~
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Happy birthday to Faith!! I love the idea of the hemp granola on top – a perfect crunch to contrast the creaminess!
Meghan @ StruggleMuffins says
I’m a meticulous jar scraper as well – not so much a first-born as an only child, but those type A tendencies apply to only children as well I think. I have yet to make OIAJ with sunflower seed butter but I can only imagine how yumazing they are 🙂
Heather says
I have a lot of first born tendencies as well. It is amazing what birth order will do to you!
I am trying to make my own soy nut butter – so I am eating a lot of it right now to finish up a jar. I think I prefer hot oatmeal though in jars.
Good luck on your errands!
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
Mmm, love OIAJ!! I’m nearly done with my almond butter so I will be having some very soon!! That is the only nice part about havign to shell out 6 dollars to get more! lol
Ellie @ The Mommyist says
Happy Birthday, Faith!
Stephanie @ StephSnacks says
Those OOIJ look great but today I used your Dough Boy recipe and added a tablespoon (if I’m being honest, a bit more than a tablespoon) of jam on top… it really hit the spot!
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
See.. I am meticulous about cleaning my nut butter jars as I am eating the nut butter.. so OIAJ..isn’t quite the same 🙁
Chelsea says
Happy Birthday Faith! I like to vacuum in rows, and if I had a lawn I’d mow it in rows too. Technically I am first born from my mom but 3rd born from my dad and raised middle child…so I don’t think it has anything to do with that it’s just an OCD thing!
Mom says
Faith, You share a birthday with my dad! He would be pleased.
Happy birthday!
Noelle says
We are having a “Mr. Kiehne Potluck Lunch” at LMCM today in honor of his birthday! Fried chicken, mac and cheese and baked beans! Our menu is probably not KERF-approved! 🙂
Kath, I read your blog everyday and I love it! I have it in my RSS feed!
Mom says
Noelle,
So sweet! I will call my mom and tell her, even though it will make her cry. Please give everyone my best. We think of you folks all the time and how much you loved my dad and he loved you! I am looking at his picture right now, the last offical one taken (in the yellowish shirt in his office.)
Mom says
I just called my mom. She is delighted. She sends her best to everyone!
Noelle says
Wonderful! Thanks for letting her know. The lunch was a great success and hopefully will become a tradition!
Mom says
A tradition sounds great. Dad would love it! Next year, maybe we could come!
Mary Frances says
I was there when she was on the telephone with you. She was so touched and we thought about dropping in because we still haven’t gotten to see the new office, but she decided to just stick with our original plans for the day and we went out.
KathEats says
Oh how wonderful Noelle!! Send photos if anyone has a camera!
Lee says
Does your shirt say I love nerds? That’s awesome. When I was in high school, I had a shirt that said, “I am a nerd” and my mom would get mad when I wore it because she thought it was self-depricating. I thought it was awesome. Proud nerd!
Grace @ Healthy Dreaming says
Yummy! Happy birthday to your friend 🙂
kim says
i take my vacuum lines very seriously… LOVE them! and cutting grass is one of my favorites because I can cut shapes, haha!
Tessa @ Amazing Asset says
You are completely right about the sides, the BEST part 🙂 Also when there is some butter left on the lid or right near the top… delicious!
Happy Birthday Faith!
Alaina says
Love OIAJ! The best way to clean a jar. 🙂
HAPPY BIRTHDAY FAITH!!
AShley says
I like sweeping the hardwoods with a microfiber broom. It makes me excited to see how much dirt I clean away…although it also disgusts me. Darn dogs! 😉 Same goes for emptying the vacuum dust container, haha. There were only 2 sips of coffee waiting for me in the pot, but man were they delicious sips!!
Michelle | Gold-hearted Girl says
Happy Thursday! I hope she has a fantastic birthday.

Cait's Plate says
Hmm those oats in a jar look amazing. If a good night’s sleep didn’t have me saying “good afternoon” – those OIAJ sure would!
Hope you have another productive/fun day at the bakery!
Khushboo says
I have a jar that is ready to be used for OIAJ and I cannot wait! I’m saving it for the weekend when I can have a leisurely breakfast and really savor all the peanut buttah goodness!
Hope says
Happy Birthday Faith! 🙂
Oats in a jar are so good! I love getting every ounce of peanut butter mixed in with the oats. So yummy! I haven’t had it in such a long time. I need to change that 🙂
Natalia - a side of simple says
Tylenol PM and I do NOT do well together. The two times I’ve taken them I’ve felt like my body was dead exhausted, but my mind was completely racing and on a high of sorts. It was terrible! Glad you didn’t have the same experience!!
Anastasia says
Haha, I totally understand the vacuum thing. I *love* to vacuum (and mow!) in neat little rows. Something ain’t right with me 😉
Sarah says
Yum! Yum! I am still patiently waiting for my almond butter jar to somewhat empty and then I will be making my first ever oats in a jar!
Gina @Runningtothekitchen says
Totally feel the same way about the sides of the jar. Also, there is such satisfaction is vacuum lines, I know EXACTLY what you mean!
Krystina (Organically Me) says
Haha, I love how you consider 8AM “sleeping through the morning”. That’s when I always wake up normally. 😛
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I had OIAJ in my sunflower seed butter jar yesterday too! So sad it’s gone now 🙁
Kristi @ Hiding in Honduras says
I like vacuuming in rows! And sweeping piles! And when I was in school I color coded my notes by theme with highlighters…but I’m a middle child!
Abby says
Mmm OIAJ! I need some near empty jars in my life soon! 😛 Happy Birthday Faith!
Mimi says
I’m first-born in my family and DO NOT share your love of vacuuming. You might be alone on that one. (;
lynn @ the actor's diet says
looks like things are really coming along kath! i think i may have dreamt about sunflower seed butter last night…
kaila @ healthy helper! says
I like when food is fun to eat too! It makes it last longer and taste better for some reason! Speaking of making eating fun…where do you get your ceramic mini spoons!?!?! I have looked everywhere for them but I can’t seem to find any! I am talking about the ones that are like the one in your header 🙂 Thanks!!!
KathEats says
They’re from Crate + Barrel
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
Happy birthday to Faith! 😀
This post is making me excited to get to the bottom of my soy nut butter jar. I think I only have 2 more servings to go!
Ashley @ Feeding Ashley says
My older sister, does not have any cleaning quirks, though I really wish she did. I love OOIAJ, but I don’t think I’ve been eating them with enough nut butter. I’ve never had to scrape down the jar.
Liv @ The Salty n' Sweet says
Oh boy, it’s been a while since waking up at 8AM was waking up late!! The rigors of being a college student…
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
I always end up scraping the sides down before reaching the bottom so my OIAJ never have the PBon the side. I should start saving the sides from now on!
Laura @ prettylittlewords says
Is that the sunflower seed butter around the sides of the jar in picture number 3? It looks like caramel!!! Yum!
Maggie @ Say Yes to Salad says
LOLOL. First born syndrome!
MonsteRawr says
Wait, 8am is sleeping in? 8am is the ass-crack of dawn. 9am is acceptable and 11am is sleeping in. Crazy lady…
Elena @ GagaForGrapefruit says
i have a jar of peanut butter that’s ALMOST gone, and i cannot WAIT till i can try OIAJ! 🙂
Emma (Namaste Everyday) says
way to go for sleeping in! I was up at 5:45am here in New Zealand, no surprised there lol
natalie (the sweets life) says
glad I’m not the only one with some of those personality quirks…must be a first born thing 😉
Jamie aka "Sometimes Healthy" Girl says
I just had my first OIAJ ever on Tuesday. What an experience! So easy and soooo delicious. I will be doing it again- that is for sure.
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I need to try OIAJ sometime soon, eh?? 😉
Heather @ Get Healthy With Heather says
All the extra nut butter in oiaj is my favorite!
Jenny (Fit Girl Foodie) says
Those overnight oats look delish. Nothing better than waking up to breakfast already made. 🙂
I still haven’t tried sunflower butter, looks delicious tho
Emily @ Savory and Savage says
Happy Birthday Faith!
Loved the pretty spring flowers.
kate says
I need to be eating more Sunbutter! I love the stuff!
faith says
THANKS Kath and everyone else!
Justeen @ Blissful Baking says
Scraping every bit of nut butter off the sides of the jar is totally fun! 🙂
r8chel says
Kath, I really like your photo composition in this post. The little sprig of blue flowers is such a nice touch!
Molly @ RDexposed says
I appreciate the nerdiness. It’s definitely part of being an RD. Tonight when someone asked what oil is best to use, I began discussing rations of poly’s and mono’s before finally saying olive oil. HA
Hannah says
You look FANTASTIC with glasses!!
kellie says
I was wondering if you try to keep your breakfast in a certain calorie range? I see that sometimes you don’t use a full serving of certain items. Today’s oats was 1/3cup. I was just wondering if there is a general baseline you shoot for.
KathEats says
My breakfasts are usually 400-600 calories, which is about 1/3 of my daily needs. I don’t count the calories each day.
1/2 a cup of oats is a serving, but I almost always add more oats in the form of granola as a topping, so I figure 1/3 cup raw + a few tbsp on top = 1/2 cup = 1 serving. That’s why I use 1/3.
qq:) says
i always love the oat in a jar!
