And I am down with the flu. Or something. I got a flu shot, but I guess it’s a strong one this year. I’ve heard that most of Cville is sick right now!
But before I was attacked by this virus, we had a great little weekend.
The power toast craving is strong these days!
We had wonderful 75 degree weather on Friday, and Mazen and I spent the whole afternoon outside. We played with our neighbors and went on scooter rides, drank smoothies, and jumped on the trampoline across the road.
Do you like Mazen’s new shirt?! It’s from Indy Rose Co owned by KERF reader Katy. If you don’t watch Game Of Thrones you might not get the joke, but wildlings are the free folk who live beyond the wall in the show. Kady sent Thomas and me grown-up versions and I’ll show you my shirt soon! Kady is also offering any of you 10% off anything in her store with the code KATHEATS10 : )
This is his best wildling face:
We teamed up with our neighbors for a cookout on Friday night. I made a big salad, and we grilled burgers and hot dogs and sweet potato fries.
Most days Mazen wakes me up by jumping on me in my bed. Often there are pillow forts involved. If he wakes up and I’m already dressed and downstairs, he gets really mad!
Sheet monster:
Saturday morning oatmeal! I made it with cottage cheese, granola and almond butter.
We went out to the country on Saturday to visit with Thomas’s family.
The boys had a great time romping around. (Mazen dressed himself – can you tell?!)
We had Caesar salad and pizza for lunch at Dr. Ho’s Humble Pie! Soooo delicious.
And then that’s when this sickness hit me like a truck. I convinced Mazen to have a quiet time with a toy from my surprise closet so I was able to rest. Luckily Matt had plans to take Mazen out to dinner and spend the night, so he could stay away from my germs. I sure hope he doesn’t get it – eeeek. I had a fever of 100.7 that evening.
After taking some Advil, my appetite came back and I started feeling better. Thomas brought in curry for dinner. Green and panang – yum.
I was able to sleep in a bit and rest most of Sunday. I bought Moana for Mazen on the TV, and we had a good time watching that on the couch. I sure hope this goes away soon!

Being sick is the worst, I hope you feel better soon! Also, I love Mazen’s suspenders! That is too cute 🙂

Feel better – I had it all last week! Missed all the beautiful weather. At one point I was up to 103.6, and that’s when my daughter told me that I probably had the flu. The thought had never entered my mind – I had gotten the flu shot. Tamiflu helped.

Oh man – 103 is high 🙁 I think I’m better today. Still have a headache, but feel good.

I used to LOVE pretending to be a sheet monster/ghost when I was a kid! Haha! Also, get well soon! 🙂

I was sick last week it totally sucked, I’m just now pulling through! I totally bragged about how a few weeks ago my hubby got super sick and I recovered in two days, two weeks later I got sick again for like a week. That’s karma for you! As long as you didn’t do any bragging I’m sure you’ll be better very soon1 ha ha
KathEats says
Haha no bragging at all! : )

Feel better, Kath! My husband forgot to get the flu shot (ugh) and was up and down for two weeks. He’d feel better, do too much, and then go downhill again. Rest up!
KathEats says
Oh gosh – I hope that doesn’t happen to me. I got the shot, so I’m hoping I had a mild case and it’s gone. (Although I can’t imagine what a real case would be like because I felt so bad at times!)
Jen says
My daughter and I both got the shot and so far so good! Hoping the shot lessened your symptoms/length of time being sick. The flu is so awful this year…
Alana says
Oh man, so sorry to hear you are down with the flu. My husband caught it at a work conference about a month ago and it had him feeling pretty bad for nearly a week. Glad to read you’ve been able to get your appetite up though! Fingers crossed it doesn’t spread to anyone else in your family, take care.

I sure hope you are feeling 100% well and back to yourself soon! All of your weekend eats look delicious as always. 🙂

I hope you feel better soon! That cold/flu virus thing going around is nasty. Hope you have some time to R&R.

EVERYONE has been so sick lately. I had a horrible 2 week long virus in January. Feel better soon! I love the suspenders Mazen is wearing with his outfit 🙂
Katie @ Dinner'N'Dancing says
Oh no! Hope you feel better soon! That shirt is adorable, thanks for sharing!
Nicole says
Oh man, feel better soon! I am currently trying to convince myself that I am NOT getting a cold. All this funky winter weather is messing with me!
Annie says
It seems everyone is sick lately! No fun! But, your weekend looked great stil!

I had the flu a few weeks ago, and I still feel terrible — glad to hear you bounced back so quickly! Curry is one of my favorite sick foods, especially when I’m congested; it’s so nice to be able to taste all the strong flavors. Hopefully Maze and Thomas don’t get it, even if it does mean more movie time!
KathEats says
Still? Oh no. I am better today, but I still feel like I have a mild hangover. Hopefully that doesn’t last for weeks!
Ellie says
Oh, I was incapacitated — 103 degree fever, no voice, coughing so hard I got sick. It was so sad — I had to bring my dog sitter in, and I was laying horizontally on the bed in plain view. It’s downgraded to a bad cold at this point, which is good since I’m commenting from Switzerland! Hopefully the flu going around DC isn’t the same as the flu in Cville!
KathEats says
Oh gosh that sounds horrible!
Linda @ The Fitty says
How many tbsp of nut butters do you generally eat in your cereal? 🙂
KathEats says
1-2 depending!
Jeanie says
Get well soon! Being sick is no fun.
Amanda says
Hi! The flu shot really is not that effective- only about 40-43% this year- and it basically has 0 % effectiveness for those over 65. Please do research on this- I actually contracted guillian barre syndrome from a flu shot- it was horrible. Probiotics, sunshine and healthy eating all help- also letting a fever run its course naturally- I learned the hard way!
George says
Hope you feel better soon!
P.S. Your dog – this is Labrador, right?
KathEats says
He’s a lab – labradoodle mix!
Mallory says
I hope you’re better! Being sick is the worst. However, it sounds like you got lucky and had a bad cold vs mild flu. 100.7 is pretty low-grade for a flu. Rest up and lots of liquids 🙂
Holly says
I had the flu two weeks ago. I RARELY get sick! I was out of work for a week! 🙁
Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) says
Sorry to hear you were sick 🙁 I hope you’re feeling better now.
