Happy Sunday friends! We started the day with this breakfast of eggs, toast and banana. Cream cheese on Irish Soda Bread tasted just like a cinnamon raisin bagel!
Yesterday we took a day trip up to Harrisonburg for our friend Emmy’s birthday party! We got there a little early so we could explore a bit and have lunch. Since our party was at the Discovery Museum, we ate across the street at Clementine’s.
They had a great selection of healthy options, and I went with a kale salad and cup of chicken chipotle soup. Plus a few of Mazen’s chips!
Matt ordered pork tacos that he loved.
After lunch we walked around downtown (which wasn’t that easy with all the snow/ice/frozen slush) and ended up over at Three Notch’d, a taproom by our brewery here in Cville.
They had 2 beers that were brewed there in H-burg, and I loved both. I don’t remember their names – but one was a smoked wheat (I think) and the other was a heather beer that tasted like a pumpkin beer! The Hydraulion Red is my favorite all-around beer in Cville these days.
We played at the Discovery Museum for a while before the party started. They have a real ambulance inside customized for kid play. M loved that and the John Deere!
Once the party started all the kids did an art project with paints that hardened when cooked. The recipe was equal parts self-rising flour, salt, water and food coloring.
They painted with Q-tips and then each paper got microwaved for about 18 seconds and they came out hard and dry! So neat, and a great rainy day project.
Cake time!!!
Mazen fell right to sleep on our hour drive home. He had a blast!
For dinner we put grits in the rice cooker so they were ready when we got home, and had those with fried egg and sauteed kale. A little hot sauce for kick!
It was a lighter dinner because I went to Glow with the Flow at Fly Dog Yoga!! Power vinyasa is here, y’all. In a heated room. To rockin’ music. With peppermint mist at the end. It ticked nearly all of my boxes for the yoga studio I’d love to make a part of my weekly routine. It’s still in pop-up stages now at the Shops at Stonefield, but I can’t wait to see what the studio is like when it officially opens somewhere in Cville. I still miss Y2 Yoga in Charlotte everyday.
Afterwards we had happy hour prices at Burton’s, and I shared a zucchini app with Naomi along with a glass of red. Good times!
What did you do this weekend?!
Jenn says
How do you make your eggs? Those look SO good!
KathEats says
A Calphalon non stick pan and low heat!
Shel@PeachyPalate says
Egg and kale and hot sauce…just missing the avocado! I could live off it day in day out! 🙂

What a great weekend! That art project the kids did sounds interesting, as do the beers you had!
Emily @ Life on Food says
I really need to get me some Irish soda bread soon!
Katie @ Live Half Full says
My weekend was a good one! It kicked off with a mani pedi followed by double date night out with friends for fish & chips on Friday, a day at a housewares show on Saturday where I got to see Ree Drummond speak and today started with yoga & brunch with a girlfriend! Now I’m working on some blog posts and binge watching House of Cards. A nice relaxing end to the weekend. 🙂

Fun times!

I had taco salad for the first time in a long time. I loved it so much, I recreated my own again today at home! Only I didn’t have ground beef, which would’ve made it taste a lot better.

Looks like a fun weekend! I’ve never had grits(I’m Canadian!) but they always look so, so good!

Your son is so adorable!!
KathEats says
Thank you!

Love your white parka with the furry hood! Where from? I’ve been looking for a slightly longer one like that, but not super long or too puffy. 😉
KathEats says
It’s Stitch Fix (brand = Rey) and its my favorite winter coat! The pockets are fleece lined.
Kori says
Wow, looks like you had a great weekend! I so love the shot of you at the yoga studio. 🙂 Random question, but about how many servings/slices do you typically get out of one round Irish soda bread loaf? I cut ours into 8 wedges, and I see you slice yours, so I was just curious.
KathEats says
I like my slices very thin so…a lot! I couldn’t count. ..Maybe 20?
Kori says
Haha ok sounds good. I guess I gave us some very generous wedges. 😉
KathEats says
Did you cut them like scones? No shame in a large wedge!
Kori says
Yes, that’s how I should’ve described it! 8 large wedges. I just pair one with a balance of protein & fats. No shame, love it! ??
KathEats says
I’ll try it that way and you try thinly cut slices super toasted!
Kori says
Will do! The wedges are definitely 3ish whole grain serving equivalents but oh so tasty. I’ll try the slices toasted & topped with cream cheese!
Sarah says
That chipotle soup looks yum!

I’ve been contemplating a rice cooker for awhile, and now you’ve won me over knowing it can be used for easy grits. How did you do them in there so they weren’t too watery, or too dry? Thanks!
KathEats says
The porridge setting – perfection!
Claire Tastes says
Sounds like a fun and filled weekend! I love the ideas of grits in the rice cooker- how long do they take to cook? Sounds like you left them in all day! Also, have you ever tried polenta in the rice cooker? Would love to know the best way to cook it!
KathEats says
The grits take over an hour but I always set them and set the timer so it’s not a worry. Polenta would be very similar!
Hannah @ eat, drink and save money says
I love the build your own flight of beer! So cool.
Taca @ A Side Of Dessert says
What a fantastic weekend! I love that glow in the dark yoga class, I definitely need something like that!
Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties says
So weird, that’s the second post about homemade kid’s paints I’ve seen today?! haha so funny!! And that yoga class sounds so cool! Peppermint mist?! Awesome!

Love this post! First off, Harrisonburg! I went to JMU for undergrad and I love getting a peek at the area even though I know live on the other side of the country! Neither of those places were there when I was in school but I love that downtown has become such a great go-to place! What a fun weekend. And- Glow Your Flow yoga- yes! I actually teach a class here called “Glow Your Flow” and it’s hands down my favorite class to teach- love seeing it in other places 🙂
