After work a handful of the RDs from work got together for a surprise baby shower for Emily, who is having a baby girl in September!
What could be more fun than baby gifts…
And pink cupcakes!
With mint tea lemonade
And puppies!
Perhaps little polka dot shoes!?
Pimento cheese!
Bayley, our host, served some delicious shrimp + grits, with salad and bread.
The menu –
Delicious! The grits were made with real old fashioned cream – and they were….so creamy!!!
My gift for the baby was a few board books – one on "Mealtime" (to encourage yummy foods 🙂 ) and the other a bear counting book, in honor of The Bears.
You can imagine how much fun I had with the bear books. My gosh, when I’m a mom I’m going to go crazy!
Strawberry Cupcake with Strawberry Cream Cheese Icing!! I also had a bite of a choco one. I <3 icing!
Girls will be Girls!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
That is so sweet! What a beautiful shower! I can totally see what you and Matt will be like as parents! You two are so sweet! The bears will definitely help you through it too! I love my boys, but dang…girl stuff is so sweet! Enjoy your evening!
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
Shrimp and grits are seriously one of the BEST things that have come out of the south.. for sure! And those cupcakes..YUM!
Liz says
Hey Kath, Quick question: Do you think your Danskos were worth the money? Did they end up making a big difference in your rotation experience? I am starting my rotations soon and wanted to know your thoughts on the shoes. Thanks for your help.
Kath says
ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could not have done this internship without them. I have worn loafers a few times with brown pants. My feet were killing me by lunchtime! Dankos rule.
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
How fun! I love baby and bridal showers. 🙂
Clare says
Aww…so cute. I love baby showers. I’ve never had shrimp and grits but I’d definitely love to try them one day. Not something you find often in Canada! What are they made from?..I’m thinking of Polenta? Oatbran maybe? I have three small children and they have all loved, and continue to love, a book called “Bears, Bears Everywhere”. I can’t remember the author but I’d definitely recommend it for a Bear-loving family 🙂
Robyn @ Frugal 'n' Fit! says
Great food at a shower filled with RDs is a given, eh? 🙂
Those little white shoes are the cutest things I have seen all day.
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
I’m the same way with baby things! Except it’s with toys more than books. I’ll probably have just as much fun with those things as my child will! (Oh man, I feel weird even talking about it!!)
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
What a cute baby shower! I love picking out gifts for babies. When I have one (which won’t be for a looooong while), I’m going to have trouble not spoiling him/her!
Janelle says
Board books are a great gift, especially when they have meaning. I read them over and over with my son, and love remembering who gave them to us and the story behind them. They grow out of clothes soooooo quickly, but books stick around for a while!
caronae says
When I have babies, I am going to have so many books for him/her. I’ll probably buy way more books than clothes. 🙂
Love your old fashioned shrimp and grits!

Wow! We eat a lot of grits here in Oklahoma, but I never knew they could be so versatile. About the most adventuresome they get here is with some cheese melted in.
I’ll have to experiment with different flavors and textures.
Grits with crunchy peanut butter?
Grits with Fiber One cereal?

Those books were too cute! I have the same book in the picture for my son and daughter except it is titled “That’s not my baby”. They love it. I have never had grits before. I will have to try them sometime. I seem to remember Bobs Redmill having them???
Kellie says
Baby girls are so fun to buy for. My daughter had a bigger wardrobe before she was born than I had.

Can you believe I’ve never had grits? (I’m not from the South obviously…) Something about them weirds me out but I think I better branch out and try them at least – the cream addition sounds promising.

Holy dairy! Looks like everyone had a good time.
Kath says
What do you mean by that?
JP says
She is anti-dairy and it is her sarcastic, passive-aggressive, holier-than-thou way of telling you that she does not approve of the amount of dairy you consumed.
Mastering Public Health says
Wow — not at all; just a silly passing blog comment about the mentioned foods! Really didn’t put that much thought into it. Sorry if it came across oddly!

Those shrimp + grits look yummy!! Everything does, actually. Love, love, love the pretty pink cupcakes. Congrats to the mommy-to-be! 😀

I think baby showers are a cute tradition, but surprisingly we almost never have them here in Finland, but I wish we would have because everything looks so cute and delicious in your pictures 🙂
Helen says
I can’t wait to have a baby shower (oh wishing my life away!) Books as presents are so good as they are something that kids can keep for a long time unlike clothes. I love the white board picture with the different coloured pens. is it yours? I would love to plan my life like that!
Kath says
No, the hosts!
Marissa says
